I can't vouche for the validity of this story, but I did see something related to this on one of the news channels last week.

A woman who had just had surgery for breast cancer, ran into some trouble because she had two ports that were surgically implanted in her chest. They set off the metal detectors. She had all of her medical documentation explaining what is she had in her chest and why. So, the security person runs the hand held metal detector over her. It goes off when she waves it over her chest. Then the person begins to poke the thing at her chest. This poor gal just had surgery! In the meantime the poor woman is trying to get her to look at the medical documentation. Of course, this is done to a large audience of onlookers.

Finally, the woman demands to see the security person's boss. After finally getting this person to read the documentation and lots of angry words, the woman is allowed to board the plane.

So, drinking breast milk wouldn't suprise me.

Perhaps what is happening is that the XJW 'movement' has now evolved beyond its infancy and is trying to find its feet in different territory and I can well understand how XJW veterans look back at the days of hand-to-hand combat, doctrinally speaking, almost with nostalgia and find a lot of what is discussed on these Boards intellectually unchallenging.

Stupid parent tricks

as a child when i would cry (a big no no in our family).

my dad would say" if you keep crying i will give you a reason to cry".

if we spoke at the dinner table, he would reach across the table (did'nt matter how far away you were..his arm seem to grow) he would thump our heads as hard as he could(leaving a bruise).

Though encouraged, beatings are certainly not unique to dubs.

My Dad came from a poor southern family. The "pick your own switch off the tree" type. Just about everyone I knew growing up got hit in one form or another.

Both my parents hit us, but the BEATINGS came from my Dad. My worse and LAST beating happened when I was 10. Now, my family, for the most part, had left the JWs. What did I get beat for? Forgetting to take out the kitchen trash. I forgot a lot. So, to try and get me to "remember" my Dad decided that every time I forgot, he would double the lashes I got with the belt. So, he started out with five, and each time I forgot, he would double the lashes. So, five would become ten, and ten would become twenty. Well, I made it to twenty. Did I suddenly remember to take out the trash? Nope. See, I always did my best not to cry when beaten. I would literally hold my breath. I wasn't about to give him the satisfaction. But, this time, I screamed. And screamed and screamed. I didn't care if he beat me some more, I would just scream more. I drew my line in the sand. My Dad hated noise and was always quieting us, so I was going to make him suffer. I remember being crouched in the hallway of our apartment screaming and crying for what seemed like hours. After I felt he had had enough, he quietly told me that he would never hit me again.

Though, that certainly did not go for my siblings.

Is it cheaper to live in the U.S.A?

being from the uk i find the cost of living high, but according to most its much cheaper to live in the usa,i mean food is cheaper,fuel is cheaper,hi-fi is cheaper,i bet everything is cheaper,why the hell is it cheaper in the usa.

so if im wrong convince me why im better off in the uk.

That is many do. Not all, however.

Yet, I do know that for the most part most do not have to be put on a "waiting list". If you need something, it's scheduled and done. Period. As long as you have insurance and it's ok'd. I hear about the waiting list thing in Canada too. That makes me nervous.

When I needed gallbladder surgery, it was scheduled for my convenience and that of my family.

There is good and bad in both systems, IMO.

It would also depend GREATLY where you actually LIVE in the US.

California and New York, because of the cost of housing, tend to be more expensive than the Mid-Western states. It also varies greatly from city to city within those states. A nice 3/2 house in Desert Hot Springs goes for about 125K to 150K. Yet, only 20 miles away in the city of Indian Wells it would easily bring 500K. Same with apartment rents. It's varies greatly.

I do understand food is much cheaper here. I can understand why. The state where I live grows 20 percent of the worlds produce. Plus, most things are available year around. Again, price varies by State and even can vary by area of state. I know that the supermarket where I shop at has "zones". They price their products according to the competition and average income of the area.

Fuel IS cheaper. Unless you live in a city with GREAT public transportation (usually a LARGE city) you will HAVE to have a car. That means having insurance and a license. That also varies by State.

Then, there is medical care. Very expensive. Health insurance in a must. Hopefully, your employer will have a good plan. Even then, most expect you to pay a share of the cost. For instance, 50%. That can easily run into several hundreds of dollars a month. And still, you have co-payments, deductables, and preauthorizations. We have to fight with our insurance company all the time over prescription medications that my spouse needs.

I would never recommend anyone from another country to just move here. Visit first. Hopefully, a long visit. And don't just go to the tourist areas. Some euros love it here and some don't.

satistics can be flexed to represent anything you want.. personally i know of out of a congregation of 89 .

my daughter & son in law who is an elder, three elders wives , publishers 4. another daughter that refused to accept the witness life style.

my wife just before she died had to be on prozac.

I can only compare my witness family with my nonwitness family. Especially my on Mom's side. HER mother had schizophrenia. She had five kids. She raised them all as witnesses. Two are still active JWs. Now, I will say that BOTH sides have struggled with emotional issues. Now they had kids (my generation) and the JW side is LOADED with bipolar disorder, depression, and fibromylagia (sp?). My aunt, a zealot JW in her 60s, has started taking antidepressants. I feel bad for her. She retired, didn't save enough (New order was suppose to be here by now) and now has to go back to work.

My Non JW side has had it's problems, believe me! but none of us are currently on meds for depression. Several of my JW relatives are.

Now, this isn't to knock witnesses personally. But, for the most part, life of a JW is DEPRESSING! I used to say if it's fun, JWs can't do it. The constantly having to watch your back. People not wanting to hear your sales pitch. Lots of slammed doors slammed in your face. The isolation. Never able to live up to expectations. Expectantly waiting for most of the worlds population to die. For the women, have to show submission to A BOY.

And that is only to name a few.

Now, why would that depress anyone?!

OK, I was a wuss today.....

i have seen my share of horrors in my life; my own; others when i worked on the ambulance and in the funeral home.

i've come home covered in someone else's blood and dealt with death on numerous times.

i have been to the dentist five times in the past month.

I must admit I am a wimp when it comes to the dentist.

I really don't have a good reason why. Probably because I'm suppose to be. I didn't even go for the first time until I was 23 and had dental insurance. Oh, my Dad thought himself to be a "dentist in training" when he decided to pull out my front top tooth with the plyers when my permiment tooth was growing in behind. Wouldn't want to cut into his beer money.

Very fortunate for me, I did inherit his extremely strong teeth. We both have twice the normal enamel. So, when I did finally get to the dentist, I only needed ONE filling. That is the only dental work I have ever needed.

I went a few months ago after waiting three years. Just needed a cleaning.
