Darwins theory of evolution

hi everyone, i have been attending bible study with one of my jeohavah's witnesses for 4 weeks, and only recently i had attended a sunday meeting with brother michael at our local kindom hall.

i have enjoyed both the time with the bible study (michael teaching quality) and the sunday meeting and have had serious thoughts to altering my life in accordance with jehovah.

but i am rather sceptical about evolution, and whenever i try to read genesis in the bible, darwins theory seems to get in the way.

Read up a little on pseudogenes and homologies in gene sequences. That stuff strongly points to common ancestries between different species.

Simply put: If both of us were to come up with a similar database of information that we intended to sell, and used the same sources, you'd expect it to be nearly identical. However if I sneakily put in some bogus info into mine and you then have the EXACT same bogus info, I have a strong case that you copied off of mine.

Same thing with organisms and their junk dna which has the same errors as other species. How did the one come to have it just like the other?

Its definitely something to be avoided. Sociological studies have shown time and again that people of the same socioeconomic class have more in common in regards to behaviours/outlooks than with people of their own ethnicity/race but different class.

Even if at first it seems that a view/ideology is specifically associated with one ethnicity, that sort of racial profiling can be easily thwarted once the ideology spreads to like minded ones of a different nationality.

If you were a JW, who would you feel safer around, a person from Philipines who also is part of Abu Sayyaf, or an Iranian who was ba'hai?

today, i am taking the girls to meet with the court appointed attorney.

he will interview the girls and me together, then he will interview sara and the girls together.

it is his recommendation to the judge that will decide the outcome of this custody battle.

Interesting links informant.

Perhaps someone more knowledgable than me can remember exacly, but archeologists found an ancient hebrew inscription that mentioned Yahweh and his consort. Who knows exactly how he was thought of as being, before the Hebrews made him their number one and only one.

Don't torment yourself with what ifs...You were hoping they would give blood. Your heart and mind were in the right place. You weren't delusional neither was your child or any of your family. They like many others were deceived. There was no lapse on your part.

The Deluded Fanatics are those ignorant, power mad, members of the GB who think they are tools of the Divine when they are agents of senseless death. Then they have the gall to glorify these incidents like HAMAS does with their shahids.

Telling the story of your child will surely save many other lives. Few of us could ever say that about our own life course. Whenever this topic comes up in conversation, I will point them to AJWRB.org.

Theres no way of knowing either way.

Like Abaddon wrote all we have is our perceptions and pooling them together to construct a reality/existence. Now you can side with the notion that there is an actual objective reality and we're always approaching a better and clearer understanding of it by our prodding, questioning and experimenting...or you can say its all one mega dream or thought of another being. Neither can adequately answer SHOULD or SHOULDN'T.

Since we're all apparently sentient and can come up with concepts like justice/injustice and good/evil we may have the idea that if the capability is there, its in our hands to decide on what should and shouldn't be allowed to exist in the world. What kind of world are we shaping? Even if its all illusion aren't lucid happy dreams cooler than nightmares? (I've never been able to control my dreams darnnit!)

Alright I'll bite this time again. You've had your fun I guess Informant but you've proven nothing about your speculations.

The link with info on the Hebrew name of God shows nothing to support a link between the WT and whatever nefarious, powerful goup you're trying to evoke.

Again Charles Taze Russell got most of his wacky ideas from contemporaries, mostly from an adventist leaning...not some group of elite Jews....While he did believe in Jews coming back in God's favour its easily understandable from what you find in Romans (I believe) and Charle's idea of a great God of salvation.

You don't have to be Jewish to disbelieve the divinity of Jesus....

Can you show us specifically with proof which funds, how much, by whom, and when they were given to Russell by whoever you've mentioned? THEN also show how they plausibly can be viewed as support or incentive to make Charley their lackey?

The others on the board are brighter than me....I should just ignore this thread.

Assuming you're just throwing ideas out there (heck I wasn't called in to work today and I'm bored), mull this over..... Wouldn't having hard archeological evidence supporting their view be a more influential approach?
There's historical proof that in the first century there was a spectrum of beliefs on the divine/human nature of JC ( An understandable, well referenced work to read is called "Lost Christianities" ). The Ebionites, for example, thought Jesus was only a man albeit the Messiah. What was to become the orthodox group managed to win in the war of ideas ergo JC is God.

[Conspiracy mode on] Why not get this info out along with all the contradictions and myths surrounding JC to weaken peoples faith...then as a clincher secretly have some skeleton of a first century man altered to appear crucified and plant info about the tomb to make it appear to be THE JC? [Conspiracy mode off]

Seriously though, I don't know how much you know about JWs so a good book to read on their background is Apocalypse Delayed.

we often oppose reason (ratio) and belief, as if those were mutually exclusive.

reason always works from presuppositions.

Hi Narc,

IMHO you've touched on one of the characteristics of the JW belief system that has made it so appealing to many dubs since it just "made so much sense" to them. The rationalistic (to varying degrees) form of argumentation I think is a legacy (albeit paltry and full of holes now) from CTR.

Excellent point with presuppositions as well....IMHO therein lies the achilles heel of the WTBS.

I think that to a degree any sort of belief system has to have some pattern resembling logic or rational argument so that a personal can cling to that...easier than if all the ideas were glaringly baseless.
