  The "bodily reserrection of Christ"doctrine and John 2:19-22

  i have been examing this doctrine for a very long time and i must admit it makes no sense at all.

  when i talk to born-again christians about this doctrine the first place they always run to in the bible is john 2:19-22. the verse simple states: destroy this temple and in three days i will raise it up.

  the jews thought he was talking about the temple building.

  Hi Jeff,

  Several posters have in other threads nicely explained an intersting problem with the WT's particular teachings on re-creation/resurrection. According to them, there's just the strictly material aspect to all of us. Once we're dead, our consciousness has ended. We're gone. Thats what we're being saved from -- non-existence. Now when the WT says God can bring us back exactly as we were, well thats just bringing back an exact copy/clone of us. What if we were alive now and God made another exact copy of us then and there? Who would you say is the real you? If you werer to unfortunately die so that other one is there alone, does that being become you by default?

  Thats one reason why the concept of continuity is not something to be ignored, IMO, whether the resurrection is physical or spiritual.

  in the newest kingdom ministry publication comes the information of how they're combining the 'no blood' card and the 'health proxy' document into only one card.. the card will have pertinent information according to the region where the person lives.

  publishers will only need to change this card if personal information changes, otherwise one can keep the card forever instead of the nonsense of having to fill one out at the beginning of each year.. the wtbts sure is simplifying matters as time goes by.

  I hated when they made those changes. Suuuurrrrrrrre, publishers had a whole week to make a thought out "choice", but now the signing was to be done in the smaller sized book studies which meant MORE EFFECTIVE SURVEILLANCE of what we'd do or not do and so the coercion was greater. Crooklyn's way of making it look like they're all for freedom of choice but keeping a firm(er) grip on their members.

  I always loved hearing different celebrities sing christmas songs. I haven't heard one in particular for a while though. Its the one where a singer from the B52s (I think thats the band) sings "have yourself a merry little christmas..."

  Sometimes I'm even in the mood for some of the classical music they play around Christmas. e.g. "Messiah"

  i need some proof for evolution

  i told my parents i dont believe in god, i dont believe in all this mystical stuff it seems like magic to me.

  i like science better, i believe in the big bang, and evolution.

  my keeps asking for proof, he says he has the bible.

  TD's post is IMHO brilliant. It's an excellent starting point with a JW because it addresses their particular concept of living things. I loved how he used living examples, with their karyotes to demonstrate the continuum of life, and that organisms aren't as discrete or distinct from one another as a JW might think. You've shown evidence for what one would expect with evolution (the clades of organisms) and you've countered their faulty concept of "kind." From there, it should be easier for them to envision the process beyond the present, into the past, and into the future.

  reading a topic in here, i came across a conversation regarding jehovah approved(tm) sports.

  i noticed that two of the posters were insensed at the amount of ex-jws in this forum.. they started ignoring everyone else that had put their opinion in on the subject....and decided that everyone in this forum was a jw "hater".

  i myself take offence to that, for i don't hate the jw's.

  Most of the jws I've known were people that wanted a kinder, more just world, and wanted to do their part in spreading that dream. I'll admit I had a somewhat skewed experience. I was always being befriended by the extremely zealous dubs (my own sibling has been a pioneer for years now). How could I hate good natured people that are being fooled and used?

  But I am totally repulsed now by the leadership. Enough to want them completely stripped of their power, and made a pariah to every dub on the planet.

  how does everyone feel about death,and what happens to you afterward?

  I have no qualms with dying. Its a natural part of our existence. I'm sure that if I had any children or a wife, though, I'd want to be a part of their lives for as long as they could stand me.

  A large part of me thinks there's no afterlife, and agrees with the views in Ecclesiastes. But there's a part of me that hopes that within many of us is the spark of the divine, and that on death, it'll manage to attain or re-attain its intended state.

  The system of privileges in WTS - any thoughts on how it works?

  wts has quite a few traits which are typical of totalitarian systems.

  many of them have been demonstrated on this board (labeling, shunning, monopoly on truth, propaganda, indoctrination, polarization of reality etc.)..

  there is one more aspect of the wts religion which can also be observed in most totalitarian systems and that is the system of granting privileges.

  I wholeheartedly agree that for most, the privileges are filling a need for self-actualization. The Org has demonized all other non-cult sources that could provide this need. Effectively, all these people have left is this self serving Org. But I'd have to also say from my own personal experience that there's been a sharp decrease in willing dupes, vying for these positions.

  I think you'll find that nearly everyone on this board will agree to having less than absolute knowledge and understanding. Ergo, hardly anyone says they can prove they're right about any topic. Most of the posters I find here take the very practical approach of just sifting out whats shown to be bogus. Just like you were advocating.

  You have a very clear understanging of the relationship between theory and fact. So I'm sure you'll agree that the phenomenon of speciation is an observable fact. Under74 makes a good point. We're using words as they're commonly understood. But if we're ever getting very detailed in discussion, then you've got a point with being more specific. Lokking forward to readng more from you.
