Well, here's my take from one particular notion of God. Other conceptions can easily discount it. If the ideals of Love, Justice and all thats "Good" are to be manifested in our universe/on our planet, I think it would take a consciousness, God, or God through people, because nature and the universe are themselves amoral.

Transitional Vertebrate Fossils FAQ for Evolution Theory
by hawkaw ini thought some on this board, including alan f. might find this frequently answered questions on transitional vertebrate fossils interesting.
many creationist leaning individuals seem to really misunderstand (or refuse to understand) transitional vertebrate fossils and how they are used in evolution theory.

Scholar,
I'll take it INvertebrate wasn't a typo. In that case, the work that Steven J. Gould did that made him propose punctuated equilibrium was with molluscs (invertebrates if I'm not mistaken). So check up on that. I think Darwin can be "a bit" outdated as a reference for fossils evidence.

My posting this news wasn't to fault the US administration for spying on possible threats like the leadership in Tehran. However, I do think they're taking the overtly militaristic approach too often. In this case in particular, its inciting. They should be focussing more of their resources on supporting the pro-democracy groups within Iran itself. I know the CIA is already doing this to some extent.

I only watched a little of Sesame Street. I didn't watch much of that show with the talking boot either. Thats because we didn't have a TV until I was about 5. Even then it was a used B&W one. Ohhh the joys at 7 of finally seeing reruns of Batman in colour.
Anyways, by my more cynical 5's I liked Oscar the Grouch and that extra-dimensional trash can of his. The rest of the muppets and people on their were always way too cheerful it was just too fake for me even as a kid.
On the Muppet Show, I loved those two old men sitting in the opera box, dissing everything happening in the show or even each other.

Of all the Marvel Films made so far, I enjoyed the Spidey flicks the best. The writing and CGI are great. But the real draw for me was seeing Peter's developing social consciousness & the extent of self-sacrificing that went along with it. I especially liked the building rescue because it had Peter go in there as himself and not Spiderman. It was another moment of truth and he had no "selfish" motives there, like say, rescueing MJ. Peter felt he personally should do something and went in to rescue her, despite not fully having his powers. He towers over Superman and Batman IMHO.
Mysterio would be a cool third villain and I think some interesting mind games could be written into the script with Mysterio's mastery of illusions.

Deadly toys
by Elsewhere inwhatever happened to to good-ol-days when you had to pay attention to where you threw your lawn darts so that you wouldn't kill anyone?.
when i was in first grade my family had a set of lawn darts... not the plastic kind... the kind with the heavy steel spike prodruding from the tip.
i loved to go outside and play with them.

I never had those gnarly disc-firing pistols or a BB gun dammit!! My cousin whose only 6 years older gloated about the kinds of childrens chemistry kits he had while growing up. I'm not a geek but he was talking about making propellant and explosives, while the crummy one I was shafted with only ended up making salt.
Even when I got cool toys like transformers, they had weak springs in their missle launchers. It seemed like each newer transformer had an even more pathetic launcher! Switching the springs with ones from ballpoint pens sorta helped.
But the one real joy was those water rockets. I'd pump prime it till my arm was numb, and then "inadvertently " be a wee off the vertical when firing. Pure coincidence that there was always a large flock of seagulls in the park when that happened.

which is worse.....?
by undercover infrom time to time some of you post letters/emails, etc that you receive from family/friends urging you to come back to the "truth", jehovah, whatever.
even though the intentions of the sender is misguided, it is apparent that they must have some affection or feeling for you to bother to send the letter.
others get no letters, no calls, no inquiries.

I'm not even going to consider the "sheperding calls" and drop-by-visits from jws just counting time or trying to get some dirt. They're an annoyance, but they tend to renew my zeal for my present course of quiet dissention.
The visits and calls from those few that really care about me however, are more painful than the silence. I don't doubt their motive of wanting to nurture, and save me, but the cult control is so overriding of them, that "it" becomes central not me. Its an agenda that only exacerbates and antagonizes the split between us. I'm made to feel like I'm the one turning my back on everyone, bein ungrateful and callous towards everyone. It drags one back into that unhealthy dynamic, albeit even momentarily.
No --- any comfort I may get from knowing that they do genuinely love me isn't enough to salve the repeated infliction of emotional pain. Its especially hurtful to those of us who may already have low self-esteem/negative self-image issues. In the interludes of silence that I'm blessed with, I hear no blame, I don't feel "wicked" and even as an agnostic, I have moments of wanting, desiring something spiritual. Maybe I'm solitary by nature and thats why I love it so. One things for sure, in the silence I can relive just the happy moments with my loved ones, and try to attenuate (but not forget) the painful ones.

I can't get a straight answer
by Glofishy incan anyone tell me if the organization believes that when a married spouse is addicted to pornography, they are actually cheating?
i mean cheating in the sense that the "innocent" spouse can then declare that they are victims of adultery, and be free to marry again?
i looked around their website and found nothing that specifically stated that it is considered cheating.

Well I'm not being told much anymore since I'm "spiritually weak" nowadays but even back 3 yrs ago, when I was still a MS, the CO told us and the elders that 1st: if any of us were addicted to internet porn we were to immediately confess it to the elder body. Yeah right.
2nd and sorta related to what you said: That CO said outright that if we had the problem we'd be immediately removed from our positions even if we were repentant. He said that one could argue that it technically wasn't fornication, but it could still have the same impact of a betrayal on wifes. So I think its totally believable that they've now made it even more taboo and upped the sanctions to df'ing.

Do ALL men cheat??
by ChakkaConned ini was watching an old eddie murphy hbo special a few weeks ago where he was talking about relationships.
in his bit, he went off on how all men cheat on their wives and girlfriends.
he was adamant that even the nicest of guys will take the opportunity to cheat if given the chance and that women need to understand that this is the way it is, 100% of the time.

Sorry, but SOME of you guys just think men are fragile little flowers whose love cracks at any stress and whose appreciation for their wives or lovers flies out the window with one glance at a willing sexy woman. I have more faith in the male gender than this. Not all of the male gender, but a big part of the male gender.
I'm glad you've had wonderful relationships that have borne that out to you. And don't get me wrong, the stuff from sociobiology shouldn't be used as an excuse by philanderers, because the data itself is objectively showing not all guys cheat. Those that do are just making chimps of themselves so to speak.
