by badboy inthey had batteries in india, so i am told by a jw(i think it was iraq, actually!

Electroplating is a nifty app and I think its possible. But then we haven't seen any real evidence of this technique being used back then, or even carried forward through the ages. Its tantalizing but I'm wondering if we're just projecting too much of our own knowledge and techniques onto less informed people (albeit just as ingenious as any of our brightest today)

So they've found these supposed ancient batteries (someone even claimed finding a sparkplug), but where are the interesting gizmos that made use of them? I haven't heard of one bonfide ancient artifact that was battery powered.
Inquiring minds want to know.

Transitional Vertebrate Fossils FAQ for Evolution Theory
by hawkaw ini thought some on this board, including alan f. might find this frequently answered questions on transitional vertebrate fossils interesting.
many creationist leaning individuals seem to really misunderstand (or refuse to understand) transitional vertebrate fossils and how they are used in evolution theory.

I've finally fixed the link methinks. Here it is:
http://www.origins.tv/darwin/landtosea.htm#Whales
You'll find a nice layout of the mammals that made the transition from land to water and became whales. Click on Ambulocetus or any of them and you'll find some more interesting info on each.
But I suggest you take a look at any photo of Turkana Boy. There's a transitional form if ever I saw one. If you argue that's a modern H.Sapiens from the skeleton from the neck on down, I'd couldn't make out a difference, but that mug says otherwise.

Why does God have to be a Person???
by frankiespeakin inthink of this,,why does god have to be a person?
is it not because we impose our own manlike image of him?
why do we even think god has emotions like ours??

Well, here's my take from one particular notion of God. Other conceptions can easily discount it. If the ideals of Love, Justice and all thats "Good" are to be manifested in our universe/on our planet, I think it would take a consciousness, God, or God through people, because nature and the universe are themselves amoral.

Scholar,
I'll take it INvertebrate wasn't a typo. In that case, the work that Steven J. Gould did that made him propose punctuated equilibrium was with molluscs (invertebrates if I'm not mistaken). So check up on that. I think Darwin can be "a bit" outdated as a reference for fossils evidence.

My posting this news wasn't to fault the US administration for spying on possible threats like the leadership in Tehran. However, I do think they're taking the overtly militaristic approach too often. In this case in particular, its inciting. They should be focussing more of their resources on supporting the pro-democracy groups within Iran itself. I know the CIA is already doing this to some extent.

I only watched a little of Sesame Street. I didn't watch much of that show with the talking boot either. Thats because we didn't have a TV until I was about 5. Even then it was a used B&W one. Ohhh the joys at 7 of finally seeing reruns of Batman in colour.
Anyways, by my more cynical 5's I liked Oscar the Grouch and that extra-dimensional trash can of his. The rest of the muppets and people on their were always way too cheerful it was just too fake for me even as a kid.
On the Muppet Show, I loved those two old men sitting in the opera box, dissing everything happening in the show or even each other.

Of all the Marvel Films made so far, I enjoyed the Spidey flicks the best. The writing and CGI are great. But the real draw for me was seeing Peter's developing social consciousness & the extent of self-sacrificing that went along with it. I especially liked the building rescue because it had Peter go in there as himself and not Spiderman. It was another moment of truth and he had no "selfish" motives there, like say, rescueing MJ. Peter felt he personally should do something and went in to rescue her, despite not fully having his powers. He towers over Superman and Batman IMHO.
Mysterio would be a cool third villain and I think some interesting mind games could be written into the script with Mysterio's mastery of illusions.

Deadly toys
by Elsewhere inwhatever happened to to good-ol-days when you had to pay attention to where you threw your lawn darts so that you wouldn't kill anyone?.
when i was in first grade my family had a set of lawn darts... not the plastic kind... the kind with the heavy steel spike prodruding from the tip.
i loved to go outside and play with them.

I never had those gnarly disc-firing pistols or a BB gun dammit!! My cousin whose only 6 years older gloated about the kinds of childrens chemistry kits he had while growing up. I'm not a geek but he was talking about making propellant and explosives, while the crummy one I was shafted with only ended up making salt.
Even when I got cool toys like transformers, they had weak springs in their missle launchers. It seemed like each newer transformer had an even more pathetic launcher! Switching the springs with ones from ballpoint pens sorta helped.
But the one real joy was those water rockets. I'd pump prime it till my arm was numb, and then "inadvertently " be a wee off the vertical when firing. Pure coincidence that there was always a large flock of seagulls in the park when that happened.
