This thread just keeps getting better! I'm especially enjoying all the links being spotted between different works (sharp eyes) and how they likely shaped this old WT/Rutherford doctrine. Thanks all for another great installment.

The facts on crucifixion, stauros, and the "torture stake"
by Leolaia infinally, i will look at biblical and patristic evidence bearing on the crucifixion of jesus in particular.
we need to examine the earliest known descriptions of the kind of crucifixion adopted by the romans and the specific terms they used to refer to it.
apparently the society believes that crux still meant "stake" in the second century a.d., when tacitus composed his annals.

- supply teacher
- some classes and students really brighten my day and others are just downright nasty. Overall, its not a very fulfilling job, and I'm even considering switching fields if a full time position doesn't come up soon. Then again, teachers don't get much respect from parents and the general population either.
- If I could do anything, I'd like to be an investigative reporter and hope I could be good enough at it to make a difference.

I shouldn't make a comment to AFIN because she apparently can't respond. But if she can at least read this, you're the perfect example of what I posted. Letting your fanatical need to keep your precious cult on its high pedestal, drive you to delude yourself and impugn ignoble motives on the real victims. You make me puke.
P.S. Guess what, I once went to a Hamilton congregation too. In fact, I can still socialize with a few circles of jws there and have a rather good standing among them. Maybe even better than yours. Point is: Be careful not to make any slanderous or libelous statements about Kwin up there. There may be a witness to it. The kind you may not like. Not a threat. Just some advice.

Is it morally OK to try to free people from the WTS and how?
by DannyBloem ini have some serious questions here.
i am still a jw but fading away slowly.
still have some privileges etc, but that will not be too long i suppose.

If they have the possibility of a more meaningful, fulfilling, life by leaving the cult (which I personally applies to quite a bit of Jws), then I thinks its morally right to try and free them. I'll agree that there are some rare exceptions where the rigid control and dictation of the cult is actually better for the person.I think the best way to help is to just stick to the facts and address any doubts they may be forming at first. To try and get any of the them to challenge their world view if they're still unquestioning about it, is, practically speaking, a waste of time, but morally speaking still a worthy thing to attempt. P.S. - I've tried with immediate family and have failed miserably, but at least I've tried. Now I'm slowly and carefully encouraging the questioning being done by a recent convert, who was first contacted by my pioneer sib.

Faders: What if we transfer our records to an out of state congo
by xjwms in.
about 100 - 200 miles from were we live, lets say we have the records transfered to a different congo.. no one there would know us, and if we never move there, ... now what.. how would they ask, "if you want to be jw's anymore?

Making my own file disappear would be cool.I don't know how its like in other congregations, but in the one I'm currently officially at, the secretary likes to fax over the letter of introduction to either the secretary or the PO of the other congregation. He even confirms the congregation number and the name(s) through someone he knows at the Georgetown Bethel.
So I may just have to settle on their keping the file but no more tabs on me.

Don't bother talking to them till you're good and ready with a lawyer right there with you. That'll jarr them and show you're serious.
Its sickening how they're more interested in protecting their mommy's image, than in getting rid of scum within their ranks.

When the cat's away, Kwin and Talesin will play! Enjoy your convention JWs!
by kwintestal ini was in the thinking room yesterday morning doing my usual routine, and between grunting and showering my mind was wondering when i came upon what i thought to be a great idea.
this weekend is the weekend for the district convention where all the good little jw's will be attending.
so i thought, if the jw's are at the convention, who's going to be at the kh?

Awesome Job!
I usually watch Global or CTV. Fingers are crossed for it having a segment today.
I've got to develop some backbone and chip in to the cause on the local front.

Has the Watchtower set the date 2034?
by VM44 inthe year 2034 has been mentioned in some posts here as the new date the watchtower is suggesting for armaggedon.
has the watchtower officially stated this?
has it appeared in any articles?

This fader can tell you that 2034 is NOT crossing the lips of any dub, or any other specific year for that matter. I think the WT is milking the Noah parallel (especially the timeframe) as way to kill two birds with one stone. Give an unsaid explanation as to why the Big A hasn't come after all these decades, but still try to rekindle the urgency and belief of the closeness of the end.
I can see some people's point that even as just a hint, thats rather a ways off, but I think its the best they can do without actually setting themselves up for another failed prophecy. And even as just a rough parallel, its better than nothing, since their nixing of the generation removed any useful theoretical endpoints for the dubs that eagerly play those games.

Would the Governing Body use a "Worldly Consulting Agency"? CIA?
by frankiespeakin in.
pros and cons please.
plenty of room for speculation!!!!

I don't think the GB would use a PR or consulting firm. Unless they're having changes of heart, they're too full of themselves and high on their own power to ask for others advice (except legal). Unfortunately they DO follow their lawyers' advice and get their way alot of times.
Even if the GB were to use some consulting agency, and it were one of the CIA's fronts, the CIA wouldn't really care much about this business to prop it up or take it down. The JW literature today is much more tamely worded in their condemnations of governments than in Da Judge's time. The CIA has more dangerous radical groups to keep tabs on nowadays.

Or hows about when Soundwave transforms into the tape-recorder? Did several of those tapes in him (like LazerBeak & Rumble) also shrink down with him?
Or where did Optimus Prime's trailer go off to, or come, from when he transformed?
Even as kids it was fun to point out this stuff to each other.
