I've been on this forum for over a year. I've learned some new things on top of what I already knew to be problems/issues. But I'm not planning on DAing or DFing myself anytime soon: solely for family. Fading is my preferred choice for the time being.

The Origin-of-Life Foundation, Inc. The Secret $1,000,000 Prize
by Deputy Dog infrom http://www.scienceagainstevolution.org/v9i11f.htm
the secret $1,000,000 prize
one of the best kept secrets of science is the origin of life prize sponsored by the origin of life foundation, inc. when we first ran across their web site (www.lifeorigin.org), we thought that the offer of one million dollars to anyone who could propose a plausible theory for the origin of life was just a slick creationist trick for showing that the emperor had no clothes.

You've completely ignored and continue to ignore a point Abaddon made from the very beginning. How does the presumed unlikelihood of abiogenesis here on Earth automatically translate into a confirmation of life being directly created by the personal god of the bible? Why overlook the possibility of having the right conditions elsewhere in the universe for life to arise naturally? At least there's some tangible evidence for that option. Bacteria have been shown to survive the vacuum of space and several organic precursors utilized by life as we know it has been detected in our nearby vicinity of outer space. What evidence is there at all to even consider said creator god vs say the Invisible Pink Unicorn?

Is there a 3rd option to explain the origin of life?
by nicolaou inthe creation / evolution debate has raged for 150 years with almost everyone coming down on one side or another (although creation has never offered an explanation for the origin of life).
my question is; 'is there another way of explaining the existence of life in the universe'?.
it's tangential and difficult to imagine but can we drag our perceptions away from the well established religious and evolutionary grooves to arrive at something .

For life itself anywhere in the universe, I really can't come up with any other alternatives. I'm leaning towards naturalistic processes.
For life specifically appearing on Earth, I like entertaining the option of directed panspermia.

Hear the elder lie!
by SickofLies ini've got the conversation my 'laywer' jason had with the head of my appeal hearing ghram, he refues to answer any questions about the recorder being tampered with, but denies that anyone named 'sean' was at the meeting, then later he talks about talking to 'sean' at the meeting!.
this guy is so desprate to cover his own ass.
btw, i will testify that the bag was closed when i was in the room before i left and that it was open after i got back.

Well Sol, it looks like he'll never fess up to rifling through your case and deleting the recordings. No point in calling the cops then because they do have more important things to do. I'm not knocking what you've been doing so far. Its very entertaining and it nicely shows how the BoE strain the gnat, but without proof or a confession, those jerks can feel secure with what they've done.

I should call the police on "SickofLies" JC committee
by kwintestal inanyone who listened to sol's recordings, would have heard at the end of the first recording of the second appeal meeting (the one that he showed up with a bearded jw named "sean") sol mentioning a second recording device that remained in a brief case recording the elders as they discussed sol's case without him present.
perhaps you are wondering what happened to those.
well, let me fill you in.. sometime while sol was dismissed from the group for the second time, the elders searched the brief case.

While I don't think it was right for the elders to confiscate it and delete everything on it, I think I would have considered that possibility and made a back up copy.
Who's to say that possibility wasn't considered and hoped for? Them wiley apostates can come up with all sorts of schemes!Would serve those cocky power tripping snoops right though!
but I don't want to impugn nefarious motives on anyone. I'd say that Sean guy really believes those were his only copies of those files but maybe his wife made back ups unbeknownst to him. This is fun stuff to follow.

What's Your Automatic Reaction When You See A JW Coming To Talk To You?
by minimus indo you want to run, hide, confront?
?

Since I'm leading a double life of sorts to keep my jw family talking to me, most dubs don't know of my apostate leanings. They'll always approach me. But almost always its to ask some favour of me. A ride here or there. My vehicle and help every time someone has to move yet again. Any bloody yard, landscaping or maintenace work around the KH that most of the elders and MSs seem to skirt.

I take it SOL's case didn't have locks on it. In any case, I say call the cops on those guys for going into his case and deleting those files that were yours Sean. They had no right to destroy your personal recordings. Sidenote: Was that the KH on top of the escaprment?

Another Committee Meeting?
by SickofLies inthe elders love me!.
they want to meet with me again, tonight at 8:00pm, no explaination as to why, just that they need to ask me some more questions.they must miss me by now its been almost a week since my last committee meeting with them.
i've picked up some interesting bits of information from listening to the audio files and i feel i might know the reason they want to meet with me.

I didn't hear all of the audio (I've only got dialup and there was significant noise). But if you never plainly admitted that you no longer believed in certain tenets (prime one being that the Society is "spirit directed"), then I'd guess that'll be a key objective for them in this next round. Trying to get you to say, yourself, that essentially you are no longer a believing JW at heart.

Apparently Simpson disagreed.
Anyway, as I have stated before there are many diffent ways of defining evolution (I have listed several-including technical ones- in previous threads), and some evolutionists themselves have included the origin of life in it.Why should we leave our definition tied to that of one scientist (Gaylord from 1948) or even a very small minority, when the overall consensus, presently, among evolutionists is that abiogenesis and evolution are two distinct things? Because its the only way you think you can refute evolution? Yes, some proposed scenarios for abiogenesis incorporate natural selection as the mechanism by which lifeless matter may have been organized, stepwise, towards life. Remember though that the process of natural selection is distinct from the phenomenon of evolution itself. Likewise how lifeless matter may have been organized into a unit of life is distinctly different from the evolution of life from there on in.

Judas Gospel is fictional, just like the 'Da Vinci Code'
by Shining One innashville, tenn. (bp)--the gospel of judas is helpful in understanding early church heresy but should be viewed as false writings and not comparable to the biblical gospels, conservative scholars say.
a group of scholars and translators announced in early april the documents discovery, disclosing the find just before a special about the manuscript aired on the national geographic channel.
national geographic billed it as a "lost gospel.

The CO was in our area this week and some of what he had to say about the Gospel was predictable. How its a renewed ploy by Satan to blind people to "accurate knowlege" and to substitute it with the valueless "knowledge - falsely so called". How the gospel was typical of the gnostics in reversing "good" and "bad". I wouldn't be surprised if a later WT article touches on those very same points.
