Hello...may I post here?

i'm not a jw, never been a jw, and don't plan on becoming a jw...however my life has been effected by the jw's whether i like it or not (dad's death/mom's conversion).
seems most here are exjw's or jws...so i'm not too sure if i'm welcome or not?

What's the point of the Awake?
by Marilyn inadmittedly it's been a long time since i've read an awake and i can't remember much about what's in it but doesn't it contain a bunch of superficial articles with a general interest theme?
like a poor mans readers digest?
i was recently wondering what the purpose of the awake is?

I think the awake was meant to compliment the WT...u know...like peas and carrots. I never used to read the WT...as it was always a rehash of old topics just thrashed over and over again...unless it was new light. I used to read the Awake journels because i would hide a raunchy novel on the inside so my ex wouldnt know I was reading 'wordly' material.

What are some of your favorite urban legends?
by BQE inmine is the story of a lady who was witnessing alone in an apartment building, and aparently she knocked on the door of some rapists/murderers/drug dealers......whatever......she was "saved" by two angels, only visible to the attackers, that accompanied her on that visit.
.
or how about the one where a householder had his finger on the trigger of a gun and was just about to pull it when.....all of a sudden....out of nowhere (drumroll please) a witness knocked on his door and offered him "the promise of everlasting life in the new system of thingstm"!!

I have heard that 2 angels guarding the sister one too...but my favourite was of the demonised dog that did backward somersaults because the presence of the witnesses disturbed the spirits or something like that.
I would like to hear the smurf doll one from someone else...the story I heard was that a smurf doll walked out of a bookstudy...but that was such a long time ago.

Suicides within Jehovah's Witnesses
by Leander inover the past 3-4 years i've been hearing about a number of suicides that have been committed by jws.
whats even more interesting is that all of the individuals were male and they all had some form of a privileged position in the congregation.
(regular pioneer, elder, minsterial servant, etc..).

There are a lot of sad stories out there...I know of 2, one was an elder's son only 16 yrs old...and the other was the son of a regular pioneer brother and sister, only 13 yrs old.
Smurfagain...sorry to hear of your loss and sadness...its not easy losing a child...and thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

Where have all the children gone?

"long time passing".. children in the witness community here in oz seem to be disappearing.. there was a time when each congregation could expect to count new publishers each year from the children growing up in witness families.
say 1 or 2 in an average 100 publisher congregation.

...around early to mid 90's we were discouraged from referring to the borg as the 'society'...thought this was everywhere!

How many hours are falsely reported?
by badboy inin the january 1 issue of each year, they harp on about how many hours the jws did last year etc etc.. how many hours are possibly falsely reported?.

What an excellent thread...but just to add my 2 cents worth...I think that not only are the hours reported falsified (which we all know it is)...but so are the statistics in the January issue which reports the growth in the borg.
There are no true indicators (other than one's conscience) to measure honesty where reporting hours and placements of magazines are concerned...so their statistics are based on lies or half truths. Surprise! Surprise!
