Do you have a better career now that you're out?
Better job, better house, better husband! Better Life!!

just dawned on me that i couldn't do my job if not for leaving.
i'm a director of marketing for a telecom company and travel the country constantly, different city and state every three months or so.
part of the job is "having" to take people out for drinks and dinner, etc all the time.

i was raised roman catholic but stopped going about 25 years ago.
i was talking with someone i work with who is a jw and suggested i might look into it.
so here i am.............
Hi MarkAnthony
If you're thinking about becoming a witness, it might be worth your while to read some of the articles posted here to help you make an informed decision.
Good luck.

ever wonder how some of those brothers wrote such elloquent talks?
i just found out ( puternut told me) their wives wrote them for them.
that must be why they always clapped so loud for their husbands!
I never once wrote my husband's talks and I never knew any elder's wives who owned up to writing their husband's talks.
At any rate, it was never the material that would captivate the audience, it was usually the speaker's charisma - my ex used to 'move' the audience - bah!!!! Did nothing for me.

what are some of the things you had to say to your kids you didn't think you'd ever have to say?
if you don't have kids you can give some examples of any family member or friends.. here are mine to my 6 year old:.
"quit licking the car.
What are some of the things you had to say to your kids you didn't think you'd ever have to say?
Can I borrow your car..... because its nicer, newer, cleaner and better than mine.

it was my experience when a jw that many focussed their lives around...having good holidays...having nice cars (some with private plates)...having perfect houses etc etc.
it all seemed very materialistic to me.
totally the opposite to what was being preached from the platform.
If you weren't guilty of being materialistic - you were guilty of coveting.
Apparently I was very materialistic because I owned a microwave
That was back in the days when microwaves were - I must be getting old.

when i look back in my 34 years of life, i think i'm glad that i was raised jw.
my dad never was a witness, my mum was, struggling to get us on the bus to the kingdom hall when i was 5 years old and a terror by all accounts.
when it came to christmas and birthdays, and all the things that seem to matter to kids, we were lucky i suppose in that being as dad didn't subscribe to mums beliefs and those we were being raised in, we got the tree and presents, and a cake each year.
Hi Scoobs and others
I enjoyed your story. I am printing it off to take home for my daughter to give to her friend at school. He has been bought up JW and is gay, and is quite confused right now. I believe your experience and those of others will help him in his journey to find his way.

well, a post from low-key lysmith on another topic got me thinking about the less than memorable food at the conventions and assemblies.
anyone have some thoughts to share?.
i missed the ham and cheese on rye-- it was one item that was actually pretty good.
They introduced the 'simplified' arrangement back in the 90's - BYO - it sucked! I only used to go for the food - so I stopped going - HA!
