my grandma was born is 1900 so she is now well over 100 years old.
I guess there are patterns...coincidences....maybe even assumptions...but usually a newbie will respond with gusto if they are sincere...unless they have an alteria motive.
since i am recently out of the "truth", i still find that i have a couple of people that i really miss.
i have managed to get past the stage of obsessing about whether or not certain people still think/care about me.. but, every now and then i wonder about my (ex)best friend.
she was like a sister to me.

You will slowly come to terms with this new arrangement...being 'out' and being 'free' comes at a price. I miss people too...but we were friends only because of the things we had in common. Now the main common ground we shared has gone...and you friend will probably be missing you just as much...but her christian conscience won't allow her to involve herself in your life too much.
I think you will deal with it better if you don't dwell on the things you left behind...I know I don't anymore. I had some really good friends also...and I still love them dearly...but we don't keep in touch and it would be uncomfortable and awkward if we were to ever bump into each other again. But because I respect them as people...NOT as JW's...I don't intrude on their lives. They know where I am...and if they were to ever leave the borg...I know they would look me up.
I do have one dear friend who left the same time I did...she is now in the states in a new relationship and we email regurlarly as she is inactive now. Because she isn't DF she keeps in touch with most of the old friends we used to have so she updates me on all the happenings. But otherwise...I don't feel worse off without the old friends.

terafera...I can't believe your parents beat you...what hypocrites. Did anyone ever see sisters with wooden spoons in the kingdom hall or at assemblies wacking their kids bottoms so that they would sit still? Well it wasn't me...but I saw plenty of that...and they were always admired by onlookers for being such conscientious parents...makes me sick.
OH and who did u love on Knots Landing...I so wanted to be Paige lmao...as if...look nothing like her...and I loved the actor Thomas Wilson Brown...but I have forgotten the name of his character...he was paige's long lost brother....oh the soapie world...how i used to love its forbidden fruitage...now that I can watch it...I don't bother with it...funny that.

For smoking u could have been DF...you got off lightly...i was kicked outta home for smoking...my JW mother was kind though...she didnt toss my things out into the street...she put them in rubbish bags.

Poor you Beans...son of the PO...I remember we used to pay particular attention to the PO's kids...they were meant to be exemplary. Here's a funny story...we had the PO's kids stay over one night...and in the morning the youngest one was sitting under the kitchen table (unbeknown to me)...they must have been playing hidey or something. My (ex) husband was sitting at the kitchen table reading the days text outloud...so to distract him I did a cartwheel in the kitchen...i only had my nightgown on...no nickers...I was so mischieveous...I had no right being an elders wife lol. Our little visitor quickly dashed out from his hiding place and ran into the children's room shouting 'I saw your mum's bum! I saw your mum's bum!' lol...poor wee cherub...he's scarred for life.
Hey ofcmad...was there a story going around that the smurf dolls were demonised? I remember my sister had one and it used to give me the heebie geebies. Don't know if it were true or not but some master story tell claims that a smurf doll (the girl one) got up and walked out of a bookstudy lol.
oh and the necktie rings a bell...kinda like brothers wearing short sleeved shirts to the meetings or not wearing a jacket.

My counselling team consisted of an elder and a ministerial servant...and they proceeded to encourage me scripturally and recommended certain WT articles which they advised me to read.

I don't think you should distress yourself...because the elders will do what they feel they HAVE to do...and no one can say or do a thing about it...(they act with God's blessing remember!) Your grandmother will be humiliated and reproved for 'gossiping'....and yet they will overlook elders who have tampered with children. What does that tell you? Personally, I think your grandmother has offended someone with some status in the congregation....and I guess they feel it is high time she were knocked down a peg or two.
Your grandmother will have to take it on the chin and should pick up her petticotes and carry on....unless she wants to change her whole way of life and a lifetime of conditioned thinking. I doubt it...she will be too long in the tooth for that now. She will nurse her hurt feelings...but she will continue to serve Jah faithfully.
How has the elder's treatment of your grandmother affected you and your faith? Are u still an active JW?

Classic story...well done. I have no idea what i'm going to say when they call on my door...I have been in Melbourne for over 3 years and JW have only called once....my kids answered the door so I never got a chance to enter into a lengthy debate. Why would I do that? To help them out...as they are counting time so they might as well enjoy a cold or hot drink and some fellowship with an apostate lol. I'm sure there is no easier way to get rid of them then to announce your intentions which is to turn them from their current path of self destructive behaviour and to join us on the 'dark side' lol.
