well gang, i have posted off and on here for several years now.
i have been to several apostafests and meetups, some i even organized.
i have met some truly wonderful people, and there has always been a sense of camraderie that i have felt.
I am one of those left wing atheist x-jw's. I'm waiting and watching to give you some flack. Just wait! C'mon ... I think that most people on the board here who are atheist are quite respectful of others choice. We may not agree with you, and at times debate (hopefully in the right thread) but you have a right to believe in whatever you believe in. If it wasn't for the diferences in people this site wouldn't be as strong and welcoming as it is.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I was spanked a lot as a kid, two or three times each meeting for not sitting still ... but not nearly as badly as you explained.
On a brighter note, it's good to know that JW's are no longer to use coropral punishment as JR Brown says here:

the courtship from hell.......i started driving up to rhode island in september of 1972. i would go about every other week.
i needed to "step down" as a book study servant, because at the time daryl christianson had come up with this brillant idea that all the book study conductors should visit everyone in their own book studies and everyone in someone else's book studies every 2 months.........so between, bethel, and a part time "g" job, going up to rhode island and shepparding everyone in the book studies, it was just to much.
so for the first time in my life, i declined a "privilege of service"........it didn't feel that bad......and in fact felt damn good.......little did i know i was leaving one hell for another one.. what i 'm about to tell you...........is the absolute truth!..........we had 2 dates in a year and a half........that is two dates in 18 months.........."2" dates...........the only time they would let us be together with out a chaperone was in the field service...........the whole courtship was spent on her parents couch in the living room......with one of them in the other room!

I think you're right Hawkaw. The government could argue that they were respecting the wishes of the family and would continue to do so however it got to the point of no return and so they had to act, and act immediately. After all, they only took custody of the 3 and not all 4 surviving children. That WILL look good for them.

I remember at the very beginning of this ordeal that WTS spokesman Michael Ruge stated that he really wanted to know who these anonymous parents were, and that they didn't know who they were. I am curious as to whether the WTS put pressure on the Vancouver HLC to find out who these people are and report back to HQ. I am curious as to whether there were any breaches of patient confidentiality involved that would nullify the WTS's ability to represent these people.
I would think that it would only take a few phone calls to find out who the parents were. How many congs are there in the area? Call each PO and find out who's the family having the sextuplets. UNLESS of course the family was inactive although still professing to be JW's and believing the JW doctrine in which case the local JW's may not have known, therefore bethel wouldn't have known either. Then the WTS jumping in would be even worse.
