just a one-page article on an ex-jw support group in toronto.
macleans is canada's version of "time" with a large circulation.
it's also the magazine that did the large article on the septuplets.
I wonder if the JW's are going to sue Macleans for copyright infringement for using their picture?!

I don't usually read the magazine, but just happened to open it as it was sitting on the couch beside me (my wife subscribes) and this article jumped right out at me.

they work hard and take care of their mothers.
they are loving uncles and kind hearted.
but they are 5'3', 290 lbs., bald at 35 and their personal interests are grounded in 3 stooges movies and star trek reruns.
Isn't that what jwsingles.com is for? The WT runs that site, don't they?

they've actually been back a couple times but i haven't been home.. the first time the came back was the day of the memorial, they dropped off a second invitation, just in case i misplaced the first one, i guess.
my wife was home and talked to them for a couple seconds but they weren't too interested in talking to her.. it had been a little while since the first time i talked to them as i've been busy on saturdays, so this time they came on a thursday afternoon around 3pm and i just happened to be home.
the lady started out by saying how last time she visited we talked about world conditions, which we didn't as you can read in my previous post on the matter, and then went on, reading a scripture, the one that talked of the last days where all these horrible things will happen, like greed and drunkeness, children won't listen to parents and people won't love god.

"What do you think of this?"
I said, "It sounds the way that the earth has run for as long as human history can recall."
The lady went on to explain to her companion how I didn't believe in the bible, and how great it was that I allowed them to read from it to me. This led the other lady to ask me why I wouldn't believe it. So, I went on to explain my reasons starting with how horrible the God of the bible is, especially in the OT, and then went on to archogical evidence, basically saying that the OT can't be proved prior to the time of King Josiah, and that's the basis of the NT, not to mention the discrepencies and contridictions.
They explained that they had a brochure that they can get me next time they visit that explains many of the "seeming contridictions" in the bible. I agreed and they left it at that.
A week later, they returned with the brochure, "A book for all people" or something like that. I wasn't home so they left it with my wife with a small note on it for me to read it and give them my opinion on it. They again weren't interested in talking to my wife, just left the brochure with her and asked for her to let me know that they were by. It's funny because originally, the very first time they came by, it was my wife who answered the door and talked to them. I wonder why they've given up on her so quickly? Do they not talk to two people in one house? Just kind of funny, that's all.

what are your opinions?.
it seems that alot of jw's are into this.. i think there is a time and place for this, ie if you don't have access to a public/private school.. it doesn't seem regulated to me.
my mother home schooled my sister because she couldn't be bothered taking and picking her up from school.
Definately NO. Kids need to learn how to relate to other people. They don't get this at home and end up socially behind after a decade of solitude.

i just purchased the 2006 annual report for the australian watchtower bible and tract society.
below are the highlights.
most incredible is that donations dropped by almost 50%, from 15 million dollars to only 10 million dollars.
Here's Canada's for those interested. Just click on the link after each year.

chinese translation error blamed for slur on sofa label.
toronto, ontario (ap) -- doris moore was shocked when her new couch was delivered to her toronto home with a label that used a racial slur to describe the dark brown shade of the upholstery.. the situation was even more alarming for moore because it was her 7-year-old daughter who pointed out "nigger brown" on the tag.. "my daughter saw the label and she knew the color brown, but didn't know what the other word meant.
With China's human rights record, she really thinks she's going to get something from the company? C'mon, it was an honest mistake, not a malicious one. I'm surprised it's even being looked at. There's no intended harm, only accidental.

msnbc is reporting at least 20 dead and 27 hurt!
i just can't understand why this keeps happening!.
swalker.
It is time to change the laws and take control of guns. 10,000+ people are murdered with guns in the USA each year.
That's a start, but the same has happened in Canada (twice that I know of), where we have a lot more control on guns. I honestly more of a cultural problem then a problem specifically with guns. What that problem is, I'm not sure but someone has to find it and fix it.

Litterbox liners
I tried that and my cat got constipated. It must have thought that the box was full enough of sh*t. Same happened to my bird.
