They work hard and take care of their mothers. They are loving uncles and kind hearted. But they are 5'3', 290 lbs., bald at 35 and their personal interests are grounded in 3 Stooges movies and Star Trek reruns. Their chances of finding a female partner are extremely dim. Yet society forbids prostitution, forcing it into a criminal, dangerous element and even frowns on pornography and topless bars. In other words, unless you are a married man you have no right to a sexual outlet without being cast as an immoral lowlife. I've been fortunate in finding a beautiful wife, having 5 kids and so forth. But I've known really nice guys who, at 40, have given up on having sex with a woman, let alone a caring girlfriend. If society would accept legal, licensed sex for money it would be a small step toward relieving the loneliness of people who fall into the cracks (no pun intended). What do you think?
No outlet for unattractive men in this society...

Well, I'm 6' 1", 175 lbs. 18 years old and not exactly unattractive if I do say so myself. (Well I HAVE to say so myself because none of you can see me.)
But I agree with you. Banning prostitution has done nothing to stop it. It's only made it more dangerous for the prostitutes.
But much more important is the fact that it's absolutely NONE OF THE GOVERNMENTS BUSINESS.

There's always anime though... Good luck finding a REAL woman that attractive.
(I think anime is pretty good evidence against an intelligent designer...)

Having sex with a total stranger for money does not sound like a solution for lonliness: it would seem to only increase it. A temporary, dangerous, illigal, emotionally uncomfortable solution to "horniness:" I will buy that, but, not lonliness. Your friends need to be encouraged to risk the time and effort of relationships, generally, (even if it means missing a Star Trek rerun) and, then, specifically, they will meet women of the same type: Trek loving, stay at home girls that will heat a frozen dinner while dressed in a "Five of Nine" costume.....
Yours in this Struggle,

No, certainly not a solution for loneliness. I said "small step toward relieving the loneliness". Yes, there is the old saying that there is someone for everyone. Unfortunately, many of them never find each other in this big world. The fundamental physical sex drive of a healthy male is an entity unto itself and these poor guys are basically told to ignore it and do without.

The following comment has to do more with the "human condition" than a "religious perspective:"
I see the best circumstances for a "healthy," positive, sexual expression best founded in a relationship that is long term and mutually beneficial. Sex is just too complicated to be "beneficail" in any other place. If we are just using sex as a release of built up frustration or lust, it is NOT connected to a removal of lonliness: that was my point. What is missing in the society around us is the interactions that promote the personal contact. Computers and the net are a means of contact, however, we are typing or talking while alone.
Your buds need to get their arses (hillbilly for "buttucks") off the couch and down to the local soup kitchen or Habitat for Humanity project. Get involve with people: frustrating as that is. They need people to form the relationships that will lead them to thier soul mate. Man, just look at the pictures of the women that have been posted on this board: everyone is really beautiful for this or that reason: they just shine. And, from the posts they are really cool. Yet, think of how much "cooler" they would be if you were working beside them in a project or over a cup of coffee with common friends.
This is what your buddies need to see.
I'm done....

I feel for such folk. It has always been around in society and does serve a purpose. Society itself can be tremendously hipocritical in this area. Even in this city, Dr. Keon a famous heart surgeon, and pioneer in his own right went this route. Willy Bagnel, a very prominent politician did as well. The first thing the papers did was try to destroy their characters and all they had accomplished in life. Even cops take advantage of hookers at times, but of course wer'e not supposed to know that! There seems to be an element of puritanical hipocrasy evident in society that I find very hard to stomach.
In Holland, they have now made arrangements for a disabled man to make two visits a month because he was not attractive and was getting very aggressive with women. He is given a cheque specifically for that purpose. They have noted a 180 degree change in his his character and is now very sociable with other folks. Their government is being pragmatic about it and are better able to control what will be going on anyways.

Well, golly, have you ever taken a look at the men in pornography? They are almost always unattractive, at least in heterosexual porn. I have heard many women comment on this and they wonder why it is so. I say it's because the porn industry wants regular looking or even homely men to think that they too can land a porno queen. And then I think the porn industry doesn't think men will buy porn with men they think are more attractive than themselves.
Hey, any guy who is well groomed (is clean, smells good and actually clips his toenails), has a good personality and confidence, has some ambition, genuinely likes and respects the feminine gender and knows how to treat them and get along with them, has a chance. I kinda dig the late John Candy and I like Wayne Knight.

A LOT of it has to do with state of mind. I have friends that are some of the FUGLIEST physically you could meet, and are successful, beutiful people with gorgeous mates. I knew a man once who was one of these guys that had been burned over most of his body, no nose, most fingers gone, etc., he was in sales, and had a beutiful wife who he met AFTER this damage. I mean REALLY pretty.
And I have friends that are "Model" hot that are extremely lonely and sad.

So basically, you're talking about Comic Book Guy?
I guess he'll just have to go to a cosplay convention or other somesuch anime convention if he wants to get laid.
