  kinshasa (reuters) - police in congo have arrested 13 suspected sorcerers accused of using black magic to steal or shrink men's penises after a wave of panic and attempted lynchings triggered by the alleged witchcraft.. reports of so-called penis snatching are not uncommon in west africa, where belief in traditional religions and witchcraft remains widespread, and where ritual killings to obtain blood or body parts still occur.. rumors of penis theft began circulating last week in kinshasa, democratic republic of congo's sprawling capital of some 8 million inhabitants.

  Why do I feel like I'm losing my wife to this website?

  If the truth divides families, then so doesn't this.

  So then, who is right and who is wrong?

  It will only divide your family if you allow it to. There are tons of people on here who are no longer believers yet have spouses who still believe. A lot of time it's just a matter of each of you respecting each other's right to have a different opinion.

  Meeting schedule rearranged...WHY?

  official speculation thread.... even if a reason is given for the meeting rearrangement when it is announced on 4/27, we all know how the society spins things (e.g., awake magazine being reduced to one issue per month to "put more emphasis on the bible" real reason.. .

  so why is the society doing this?

  on the surface, it seems to be a loosening of control.

  I would suggest for a few reasons.

  1. Not enough elders. (my first thought)
  2. Not enough houses willing to host.
  3. Not big enough turn-out (consistantly) thus boosting attendance averages
  4. Less time = less comments = less individuality = less thinking

  I might think of more, but those are the main ones. I'm actually surprised that this might happen. I remember years ago them going on about how the bookstudies will more then likely be the only contact we have with the JW's once the work is under ban. I don't know if this is written somewhere, but we could really use it to our advantage if it is as it would seem that they're not too worried about the whole persecution thing any more.

  I just called the court. The hearing is open to the public and starts at 9am on May 20th.

  I went in and talked to my member of Parliment this morning, and he said that because it is the Supreme court making the desicion on the issue, they can't be swayed by public opinion, so I'm doubting the usefulness of a huge campaign. What should be done though, is making Kerry L-W's article on blood available to the defendant's lawyers. I'll look into that later today.

  My question, will the judges recieve and read that essay or would it be considered influencing their opinion?

  Blondie, yes, it's amazing what's online! There are very few things published now that actually aren't out there. And those things could be very, very valuable and I'm not meaning in a monitary way either.
