what if...
by Hondo inwhat if the majority religion (i'm not sure i consider the jehovah witnesses a religion) in the world today were the jehovah witnesses?
instead of the catholics let's say (i think the catholics have around a billion or so).
imagine jw numbers at around one billion or two, or about 1/5 of the world population (boy, this is a sacry thought).

I'm going to have to tell them, when they call, that I can't in good conscience associate with THEM! The thought of doing business with them now turns my stomach and I'd be happy to tell them why.
Ha. That's funny. Good for you!

Capitalism is an economic system. Unfortuneately it works by exploiting both human and natural resources. It commodifies everything of value, ideas and vital resources, as well as the social safety net.
Capitalism also creates two distinct classes:
1. The working class whose labour is exploited, and limited to wage slavery
2. The ruling class which is the elite minority.
Those who rule monopolize economic, scoial and political power at the expencs of labour, the envrionment and human rights.
These 2 classes are oppossed to one another as the degree that the worker or the environment is exploited is the degree to which the boss turns a profit. Workers find themselves in conflict with those in power, as their own goals reflect a common good, as opposed to the self motivated interests of the ruling class.

I think it was Stephen Bates of the Guardian Newspaper.

Days after he wrote this article, they resigned membership.

Start of the '7 times' period in Daniel
by Noumenon in.
hi - would be grateful for any info on what russell and the early bible students believed as to when the '7 times', 2520 years, prophesy in daniel 4 started.
specifically, did they hold that the supposed 2520 year period started with jerusalem's destruction in 586/607bce or babylon's destruction in 539bce, and why?

If you get a chance, read the book "Gentile Times Reconsidered" by Carl Olof Jonsson. It goes into amazing depth and detail.

I only like the sandwiches at KFC. I figgure it's not as bad as eating the legs, thighs or breasts of the bird because they use the pieces of meat that fall on the floor for the sandwiches, so in my sick twisted reasoning, I'm doing the world a favour since that's one less item going into a landfill. And it tastes good too.

Married to a JW, how do you handle teaching the kids?
by AlmostAtheist ini'm fading away from jw's, and i hope my dub wife will fade with me and we can teach our children to be free thinking humans, not mindless automatons.
but there is certainly the possibility that my "falling away" will spark something in my wife to make her take the jw religion more seriously and she'll wind up going the other way.
for all i know, she'll turn me in and get me disfellowshipped.. surely some of you are already in this situation.

Hey L&R, I'm in the same boat as you are. I started fading away about 2 yrs ago and stopped completely 1 yr ago. My wife now knows my position regarding the WTS (just for the record, I'm against). It was rough at first because she really didn't understand, and didn't except the changes in my life. She still doesn't understand because she hasn't looked into the problems with the org, but she now excepts that I won't be going with her again. Our kids are still young and very smart and perceptive (like all kids) and they know that I don't go to meetings anymore which prompt questions from my daughter. I personally don't feel that I should right now put the kids in the "But Mom said/But Dad said" situation and confuse them anymore then they are already. You know the way the witnesses work, more then likely if your wife has any faith in the org. at all, she will put up a fight to teach the children. My wife did. So I'll let her have that for now. It's a work in progress right now, and will be until she's out, but right now the best I can do is work on my wife, not confuse my kids. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying not to do things to open your kids minds, definately don't get them trapped in the org's box. Do things with them that will open their minds. For example I've taken mine (6 yr old daughter) to volunteer at a soup kitchen, I've taken both my kids to different marches, they're involved in T-Ball and will be in hockey next year. It's important to me that even though my wife is teaching them the WT teachings right now, that they see more then that world and that is how I teach them. In time I hope my wife does fade away (don't we all), but right now I can't count on that and so that is what I'm preparing for. Good luck L&R!

Food for thought.

in ancient israel, there were no prisons as we know them today.
were they not slaves for over 400 years?

It makes as much sence as Gideon's 300 men defeating 135,000 invaders, yet 1,000,000 Isrealites couldn't defeat Egypt, and so ran like little wimps, traping themselves between Pharoh's army and the Red Sea, and then still not fighting them.
