Great post ThiChi! But, don't we get to kill or at least burn in hell those that don't agree?!? j/k Isn't it great to live by words like those compared with our jw lives?
Thanks for the nice way to round out my evening!

this is what the dalai lama has to say on the millennium.
all it takes is a few seconds to read and think over.

i'm making it official.
i'm addicted!
someone once said to me that admitting it is solving half of the problem, and i can live with the other half... lol.
LIFE--and everything that goes with it: people, nature, animals (3 "kids"), books, the ocean, food, (esp. ice cream and chocolate), drinks, sex (can I ever make up for lost time?!) and smoking some kind bud (better than tobacco for me). Hmmm, I really am addicted to life!
I guess it's no big surprise though, considering that most of us on these boards have NOT been living our true lives until getting out of the borg.

we had a whole list of shows we were not allowed to watch including 'speed racer', you'll never guess why.
it was beacuse in the theme song it says "he's a demon on wheels" but then my mother was a jw fanatic lol.

My parents weren't too consistent--most of the time we could watch Scooby Doo, Carol Burnett (eating dinner to it), I Dream of Jeannie and occasionally even Bewitched. We ate Lucky Charms (if mom had a coupon and it was on sale and even Booberry or Count Chocula if we were lucky. We were NEVER allowed to watch the Smurfs, Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek, Star Wars or anything else that contained violence, science fiction, or magic; but we would watch Disney movies and I can remember being terrified of the bad characters (like the witches)! My little brain just couldn't handle the imaginative visuals that included the negativity.
As I got into my teens, my dad and I would sometimes stay up late and howl with laughter at Benny Hill! It used to drive my mom crazy, but I had other ways of connecting with her. She loved a good romantic theme, so we were huge fans of Remington Steel. Since it was on a bookstudy night, as soon as the meeting was over we'd rush everyone out so we could eat our treat (like someone mentioned before with popcorn) and drool over Pierce Brosnan.
A few years ago though I convinced my mom to watch Dirty Dancing (and she loved it). I also had a lot of fun (internally) and brought To Wong Fu to their place and watched them squirm trying not to sympathize with the gay characters in it! Their brains were really frying on that one! But I love to laugh, and that one has some funny scenes.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane--I'm sure the longer we all sat here the more we'd remember!!!

can you guys think of some other thread species?.
commonly found inhabiting the brackish waters surrounding the territories of the trolls, these threads can be quite flighty and nervous, so approach them with care.
known for their stark, bright plumage, which occasionally consists of hundreds of huge, internet-explorer-choking jpegs, these threads are most likely to be seen during the evening.. the thread started exclusively for the purpose of flaming another thread thread.
SYN,
Great job! Got me laughing, and isn't what that's what it's all about anyway? I hadn't seen you posting very much lately--well worth the wait.

has anyone else tried salvia?
i recently tried this herb, which is a member of the sage family, via smoking it.
i must say that it is a psychedellic not for the faint of heart or one who fears the loss of control for several minutes at a time.
Imanaliento,
I can sure empathize with you about the lung part; I'm looking forward to trying a vaporizor some day! However, I just wanted to say that weed and salvia (among others) do not kill brain cells. I have done a fair amount of research and have yet to find anything that supports that theory. Just my 2 cents!
Comforter,
Why does that not surprise me that you used to do drugs? Which were your favorite and why? Also, why did you finally start saying "I" in your responses when talking about drugs, but you resorted back to "comforter" when speaking about the religion?
Valis,
I'm not joking about RI--our place is always open to visitors. We'd love to have you and any others who share our views about being truly "open-minded". My boyfriend has even mentioned he'd like to meet you based on your comments and humor. We can always try to figure out when...
Queer and everyone else
You most certainly would be welcome--especially if you're from CA, my favorite state. I've been thinking about this for awhile, so if anyone is truly interested, email me.
Aluminutty,
Hey stranger! Long time no smoke! I've sure missed you guys, and if you came to visit you'd get to try this "topic". Hope if nothing else I get to see ya all at X-mas time. Talk to C & D and see what we can do! Love ya lots,

Valis,
You sound all too similar to my boyfriend sometimes. I think we all need to get together for a "special
apostafest". I'm guessing that we all have some very similar "habits"! I'd love to hear more about your
trips etc. sometime because it's a whole new world out there for me, but I'm heading off to work right now.
Feel free to email sometime--maybe we
could get some like-minded ex-jw's together and have a party. We are in Rhode Island, which I realize
isn't very close to Dallas! Anyway, great topic.

comforter, how do you know that unless you've tried? I feel much closer to "god" while using things like that because it releases the constraints that religions--especially the jw's--put on our minds to control us.

Hey Valis,
You beat me to it! My boyfriend and I tried it over the weekend for the first time. (never do it alone, and take turns) He just had a glimpse of the "trip", then kinda freaked out and came back. I don't think I had quite enough to put me over the edge; but that's ok cause I want to hear about his experience first. We've done a bunch of reading about it, and the sources all say to be in a dark quiet place with no distractions. Since we have 3 dogs, that kinda made it difficult! I'm sure we'll probably try again this weekend--hopefully the dogs will sleep. Anyway, how was your trip? Have you done it more than once? I'm curious about your experience.
curious christy, it doesn't taste bad at all, kinda like smokin pot leaves. The weird part is you feel it coming on rather quickly, and you still need to smoke enough to get you "all the way". But, a note of caution--please don't do it alone. Read about it first, as much as you can find. It's pretty powerful stuff. Hope to hear more experiences with this.

hi folks,.
i'm rather new here, only posted a couple of times.
although i have been visiting the site daily for a good 2 months now.
Naked,
Wedding rings, throwing rice, calendars, food, certain types of clothing, symbols--all of these things are not mere "customs"--they are a huge part of our everyday life! Do you not wear a ring, look and/or use a calendar, or many other things that have their complete originations in paganism? Somehow I doubt it; tell me if I'm wrong though. I personally don't think that a "god" would say that some of it is right, and only some wrong when it's all the same background.
I just don't subscribe to the "satan as ruler" theory any more--my 70 or 80 years on earth (hopefully, if I'm lucky and take care of myself) don't need any more evil influences than are already living on earth today. I'm much more confident that we are in control--not an unseen force. Besides, that way I'm not always afraid that my next mistake will be the one that causes my supposedly loving "father" to kill me. I'm much happier believing that I'm responsible for my own life--not counting accidents.
Great topics though, it's nice to read other's viewpoints even when different from my own. I guess I just got tired of my "life" being enslaved to anything other than my own making--because that's hard enough.
Scuba,
I would have to agree that you should do what you want to do first of all, and definitely at least try it out for your wife's sake (I personally love the holidays). You live with her as pointed out earlier, and your home life is very important. Your father at some point needs to accept that you are an adult and are capable of making your own decisions. Of course, we still should be respectful of their beliefs, as we hope that they will someday respect ours also.
Good night all,
Becky

Naked,
I can understand where you're coming from since I was raised a JW and their "pagan origin" views. However, I'd like to just say that if you're really going to point the finger at the holidays, then you need to look at many aspects of your everyday life that have pagan origins. Remember the calendar, wedding rings, throwing rice at weddings....etc.? I'm sure if we dig deep enough we can find "pagan" origins associated with many things we do and have in our homes every day.
Don't you think that whatever version of "god" is, he would be more interested in how we treat others--including various celebrations of life on certain days of the year? I certainly wouldn't want to offend you and your beliefs and the way you live your life. But, can you at least see that most people who choose to indulge in those holidays are only using them to bring joy into their lives and those around them?
I personally am trying to find the happy medium in between the garbage I was fed as a jw, and my own happiness at being able to visit with and share presents with those I love. Last year at Christmas I was unable to give much, but received more than I ever dreamed! I'm looking forward to giving in my own way this year--because I want to.
