  Was it better to be an elder's wife, or a CO's wife?

  a friend of mine was asking about the cult we all hold so dear, and i was explaining some of it to her.

  i told her about elder's wives, and how they have both the prestige of that position, plus the social standing.

  logically, it would be even better for a co's wife.

  A friend of mine was asking about the cult we all hold so dear, and I was explaining some of it to her. I told her about Elder's Wives, and how they have both the prestige of that position, plus the social standing. Logically, it would be even better for a CO's wife.

  But then it dawned on me that a CO's wife doesn't get the social circle to play in that an elder's wife does. She might be a more high-ranking wife on the theocratic scale, but I wonder if the real benefits of that standing aren't actually fewer than that of a mere elder's wife?

  i just found out that my half-sister visited our 89 year old mother in a nursing home yesterday and told her that she should be getting out in service and to the meetings!!

  i do so want to call her and tell her just what i feel about her and this cult of hers!!

  i was a jw for 25 years and stopped going to the kh about 4 years ago.

  Ok, good to hear. I like Hope's idea -- remind her of that scripture about 'Jehovah not being unrighteous so as to forget her good works', or words to that effect.

  people like to throw around the cult word when describing the watchtower society.

  but look at the definition of "cult" and you will see it applies to any system of thought concieved by an individual or group to control others.

  are christians a jesus cult...yes.

  I use the word "cult" in reference to JW's because it creates the right mental picture in people's heads. They think of a cult as something that takes over people's lives. Being a Catholic doesn't take over your life, nor does being of a political persuasion.

  The subject of whether they are a cult, and whether or not other organizations are cults, is debatable -- agreed. But my use of the word is not for linguistic accuracy, but for properly portraying my experience to those I meet.

  Since Mom feels guilty for not going, I wonder if it wouldn't be a nice compromise to go ahead and run her to a meeting a month? I realize that's not nearly enough to satisfy the rabid sister, but it might be enough to alleviate Mom's guilt.

  You'd have to weigh that against the potential for problems yourself -- will mom start wanting to go in field service, too? Will she want to go every week? Will she want to make all 5 meetings, instead of just Sunday? And the potential that you'll get "found out" as a not-a-witness, get DF'd, and have a whole other whack of new issues to deal with.

  Just a thought.

  i certainly have heard a lot of idiotic stuff during my tenure as a witness - but this one is priceless:.

  a neophyte was complaining about the heat, humidity, physical effort, etc., involved in attending the district convention at veteran's stadium in philadelphia - and she was right.

  it was miserable.

  This was a circuit assembly-

  The brother running the show got up at lunch time and said, "Lunch will be from noon to 1:30" and then walked off the stage. Lunch had been called, right? No. The mindless drones that we were, we were waiting for the "you are dismissed" line and it hadn't come. So we all stood there. Standing... standing...

  Finally, Brother RunningTheShow went back on stage and said, "You are dismissed". 2,200 sighs of relief, and the sheep were finally allowed to go to lunch.

  Unbelievably, I was PROUD of the fact that we were all so "obedient"! *barf*

  The other day I attended a family reunion (my Dad's side of the family). Took the kids with me. We all had a blast. Sierra (3 yrs old) didn't get her usual nap and she was a bit out of sorts on the drive home. Too tired to sleep, essentially. After an hour in the car, she said, "Dad, I had a nice day."

  It struck me, as we'd been on the road so long, and she'd had so much time to make that comment. But she had apparently been thinking about all her fun and just had to finally say something. I loved it!
