  i am starting to think about the joyous season already - i know, i know, i am way too early.

  it is still summer in the northern hemisphere, school has only just gotten started, and the leaves haven't even turned yet.

  I found this thread 3 years ago and it completely changed my life!!!!!!!

  Until this, I thought that I was just not up to the moral standards of the Organization. Then I found out that they had no moral standards at all!

  May this thread continually be bought up to newcomers to this forum. Thank God for JWD, and Simon for this forum.

  Just found out my dog has cancer

  two types of cancer in both her upper and lower jaws.

  melanoma in the top jaw, squamous cell carcinoma in the lower.

  both are bad cancers.

  I am sorry about your doggy baby. We are going through liver disease with our 12 Y.O. "puppy," and I can relate! They are a member of the family. And animals show unconditional love, unlike unfeeling JW's!

  as everyone knows, jehovahs witnesses believe that the entire antediluvian world was vegetarian.

  they hold that this was gods original purpose and further believe that the restoration prophecies (isaiah 11:6-9; 65:25) foretell a future return to this state.. for the most part, jw publications have (wisely) avoided discussing the specifics of this belief, but one notable exception to this rule was the article "when all nature will be in harmony" which appeared in the october 8, 1982 issue of awake!.

  this article basically asserted that predation is simply a learned behavior that is connected to the fall of man in some unspecified way.

  Has anyone found dating as an EX JW difficult?

  just curious as to what difficulties have faced people dating as an ex jw.

  myself, i have noticed the glazed over look in a guy's eyes when you try to explain why your family doesn't celebrate the holidays with you etc.

  new to this board, so if this has been well covered before, please forgive me.

  Sweetstuff,

  It is not only explaining your whacked out family to people you are dating, it is explaining a great deal of your own idiosyncracies due to your upbringing.

  In early dating, it isn't necessary to talk about these much, just try to have a good time. As things progress more and you get involved, then these need to be discussed in further detail.

  The line I used was "being raised as a JW is a lot like being raised Amish, there are a lot of things that I never did because of being raised in the religion." That helped me to explain the details later.

  Things would pop up in general conversation. Once she got mad at me because I told her that I never voted. I said, "remember that I was Amish! We were forbidden to be a part of the political process." She gradually became aware of how pervasive this cult was.

  I started seeing her while i was disfellowshipped, but still thought it was The Troof. I still had thoughts of going back, and figuring out how to convert her. Then 3 years ago while we were dating, I found this site. That is when I discovered the UN/NGO debacle. She couldn't understand why I was so upset about it and why it was a big deal. I tried to explain that it meant that everything that I was taught my whole life was a lie.

  She has become very understanding of my being an ex-JW in the last four years, but it still occasionally causes problems.

  Dating someone that is an ex-JW could be either good or bad, as there are pros and cons as you have stated. A similar background can help you have something in common. But face it, most of us are screwed up!

  i am watching "independence day" which is one of my favorite movies - i watch it every time it comes on television.

  i also really like "beetlejuice," "the american president," and several others that i admit are cheesy but a great deal of fun.

  "men in black" is great too.. what are your favorite cheesy movies?

  (jack lemon) kimberly wells (jane fonda) nervously whispers to richard adams, (michael douglas) "the reactor is the biggest bomb in there!

  this reflected a belief, common in the 1970's that commercial nuclear reactors were capable of going up in a mushroom cloud like an atomic bomb.. although no one can deny that accidents and malfunctions at nuclear power plants can potentially be catastrophic, these reactors are not capable of a bomb-like reaction.

  wow so saturday while working on a hangover (fun friday night).

  my ex girlfriend calls me up at about ten in the morning explaining that she wants to have a pool party at her place.

  she wants me to go with her to buy food, alcohol, pool floats, and all that good kind of stuff.
