  A while back just after 9/11 when much discussion was going on about terrorists sending suicide pilots to death, I posted a question on this board: Go there, and DIE THERE,if necessary. I asked who said this, Adolf Hitler, Saddam Husein, Osama Ben Ladin? No one answered the post and asked about it, and I forgot about it til I came across this post. You guessed it.

  i dont go to meetings anymore!

  .....big breakthrough for me !.

  i have tryed the slow fade but that just seems to make my wife think that i am going to go to every meeting......so i have decided to go cold turkey , and it is hard .

  Yes, I suggest the same. Fill in the time with something else, volonteer for something, soup kitchens, visit sick in hospitals, or worse come to worse, spend time here on the board. If you do something worthwhile, then your wife cannot think you are wasting your time at home, but you are doing something constructive for others. belbab

  i have allways thought that the single greatest asset the jws have is the nickname "the truth".. trying to get through to our freinds and parents the sickening facts about "the truth", we are constantly stymied.

  by the sentence "i still beleive its the truth".. this is the equialent of calling your law firm "the honest ones".

  or your shop, "the best".. only better, much better.. jws mistake a concept, "truth" with "the truth".

  Comments: Truth bubbles up from deep down in the human heart as it states in the Book. Try not to measure it for it is immeasurable. No one or collective one has a monopoly on it or possesses THE truth.

  i have another one for you.. one december afternoon back in the late 1980s my mom and i were looking out of my back sliding glass doors.. we could see a santa clause sneaking around the side of my neighbors house and then he climbed into their house through a bedroom window.. we thought we were seeing a burglary in progress!.

  Your stories about Christmas remind me of the following:

  In the winter of 53/54 was the first time I went out in the door to door work while attending a circuit assembly. Out in the country we came to a man that was quite opposed because he said he read in the Awake magazine that JWs said they would dump a load of manure in your driveway for Xmas. I didn't believe him and I told him I would look it up and check it. I did, I think it was in the Awake from the previous year, 52 or maybe it is 53. Sure enough there was an article about Xmas and it started out with exactly what he said, the only thing though was that it was a quotation from someone who was advertising the sale of manure. The man reading the article did not realize it was a quotation. But whether or not it was a quotation was still throwing a pile of manure on Xmas.

  If someone has access to that article, I would love to see it posted here. It is an article about Xmas either 52 or 53, they used have an article each year as Xmas approached.

  WTS TO END MAILED SUBSCRIPTIONS

  just heard that the society is going to stop mailed subscriptions.

  magazines will all have to be picked up at the kingdom hall.

  not sure when it's starting, but soon, i suppose.. sorry if this has been posted before, but i think this is very new info.

  I could never get a subscription in Canada, I just get magazines very sporadically, whenever one shows up.

  A long time ago, the Society, in Canada anyway, I believe that the Society has its own trucks to deliver bulk magazines across the country to Kingdom Halls or a central drop of point. I believe it was to save money. I know Canada post rates increase as the distance posted increases. I am told in the US the mail rate is the same whether the distance is long or short.

  Also I believe in Canada, if you have a subsciption, it is delivered to you by publishers, not by mail. I think some are by mail.

  I may be wrong in these thoughts, maybe some one can verify or nullify them. One thing I am sure of, its a money thing.

  SEPT 11- DOORS OPEN OR SHUT?

  a while ago someone suggested that brooklyn bethel shut their doors during wtc horror; does anyone know for sure?i have been told they opened the doors for 'relief work'.

  want to get facts straight before i spout off.

  "only two things are infinite- the universe and human stupidity, and i'm not too sure about the universe.

  I too remember when the info first started to be posted on this board, there were some postings that said that they locked the doors and pulled the curtains. And if I remember right, the bethel staff was assembled in the dining room. Only later was info posted that they opened their doors to people crossing the bridge. Now the Awake article says that three people, associated with Witnesses are given as examples of people knocking on Bethel doors, and these three examples are made to look like many people knocked on Bethel doors.

  The March lst WT and the Isaiah book, give the prophecy of Isaiah, where it says ' enter into your interior rooms until the denunciation has passed. and a picture is shown of a man and his family climbing the stairs to their iterior rooms. The WT says that represents in our day taking refuge in the local congregations. I contend that they thought Armageddon had arrived on Sept ll and they initially were following this prophecy.

  We need verification that they indeed did lock their doors. I went back in the archives to Sept 11th and retraced those moments minute by minute, but did not spend enough time at it. Sept llth is around page l82 to l85 if I remember rightly. Going back and reading this is quite an experience. The moments come to life again. I hope someone can find the posts where it says they locked the doors.
