when i was a witness i remember asking one of the elders if it would be alright to donate to different causes/charities like the american cancer society,st judes hospital etc.
he told me that these organizations only provide temporary relief whereas god kingdom would provide permanent relief.
) he was so down on these organizations but yet when he needed them for help he sure didnt hesitate to ask them.
If I remember right the Watchtower has put in print somewhere that it is OK to use the rescources of society in general. They use for scriptural basis the account of the Israelites, when they left Egypt, asked and received treasures and goodies for leaving.
Perhaps someone can find the references in the litterature.

There is one other argument I would like to see discussed.
Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:54 KJV
We know that Jesus did not mean that we literally drink his blood, but figureatively, by imbibing his way of life, the blood symbolizing his entire life activities, one drinks his blood.
David did not drink the water that some of his soldiers risked their life for, saying he would be drinking their blood.
Jesus would not even think of using drinking his blood as a symbol for imitating his life, if there was a total prohibition on using blood for saving life.
The Red Cross, an organization that promotes the saving of life by using blood transfusion, bases its activities on the donating of life preserving blood to save the life of others. Is that not a Christian motivation?

when i was a true-blue-believing-jw i always thought that my ace in the hole was the neutrality issue.
if you're a jw and you're losing an argument on trinity or blood or hell you can always try to change the subject and zero in on how jw's are the only major religion that takes a strong stand against joining the military.
(i know there are other pacifist churches, but not many.).

A. Common custom in ancient world.
1. Soldiers could command you and compel you to carry baggage one mile.
B. Principle - not only do what is required of us, but in spirit of Christ go beyond.
I believe the Watchtower also applies this to soldiers enforcing others to carry their baggage.
I do not see why theWT forces young men to waste away in prison, and not accept alternative service when asked to do so. Jehovah's Witnesses in prison under Hitler and also Stalin were forced to work, and not just for a mile.
Their policy is burning their children in fire, all for the glory of Molech, aka Jehovah.
