  My best friend is a JW

  my best friend is a jw but she can't do anything outside of school with me.

  it's really hard cuz she gets jealous when i do things with our other friends outside of school.

  we invite her but she's never allowed to go.

  Dear Wiggles,

  What can you do? You can still be friends with her within the school, you can send her notes, cards gifts etc. You can wave to her, smile, send her appropriate jokes. If she has a computer you can e-mail her. You want to do things with her, that is share activities with her. She is like in a prison, you are too as far as associating with her. In prison, you may have to communicate with someone by banging on water pipes etc.

  If you remain her friend, time will pass, and time changes things. In the future, may be in a few years, she will break free and you can be friends.

  One last thing, I will try and think of examples in the Bible, where people were friends even though they were not of the same faith. The parable of the Good Samaritain comes to mind, but I know there are others. If she is a Jehovah's Witness she will listen to stuff from the Bible and have an answer to give her parents.

  so what does the scripture "the love of the greater number will cool off" mean if it's not the big falling away from the wts in the last few years?

  btw i don't remember the scriptural context but i have sometimes wondered about it - even though i'm a devout non-believer.. marilyn

  Back in the sixties or very early seventies the Watchtower applied this text the love of the greater number would cool offto Jehovah's Witnesses. I used to tell Witnesses this and they had a hard time believing it.

  I wish someone who has the WT library could look up this text in the magazines and post it here. I don't have access anymore.

  TREMORS SHAKE WATCHTOWER

  i got up this morning, (6 am pacific} and logged on at this site right away, because i wanted to see if anyone posted about the tremor that shook the watchtower last evening.

  i saw two posts about earthquakes and i thought oh good, someone has posted the information.

  talk about synchronicity.

  Mulan and Queenie,

  I don‘t think that Dateline programming the Watchtower story would be overkill. It would be overkill only if we say it is overkill.

  The last while the pedophile scandals of the Catholic Church have been front and centre. This focus can and must be expanded to take in all religious organizations. Why limit it to the Catholics. May be Catholics would appreciate the spotlight being turned towards Protestant groups for a change. Most non-Catholic religious groups are feeding, even gloating , on the information about pedophilia of the Catholics. Pedophilia where ever it is must be exposed to the light.

  My intentions are to write Dateline and express my appreciation for the program, and ask whether it will be shown again. Then I want to ask them to expand the exposure to other organizations that are hiding in the bushes thinking and hoping it doesn’t reach to them.

  Many have requested on this forum that we write Dateline to keep the JW molestation program to air. I think if many of us can write them and express appreciation for the program last night, and also express a request for an expansion of the subject and expose problems in many other organizations as well, they will certainly see the interest that is out there. They have invested a lot of money in preparing the JW program, they want a return on that investment.

  My intention is not to just sit on the sidelines and hope wait and watch. I think of the brave woman in the program last night who pursued for years the prelates and the Cardinal to bring to light the atrocities perpetrated on young children to see that justice is done.

  I saw two posts about earthquakes and I thought oh good, someone has posted the information. Talk about synchronicity. I was looking for another earth shaking tremor that must have hit the WT last evening and has them peeing in their boots.

  Did anyone see the Dateline program last night about pedophilia in the Catholic church? A powerful , powerful program, very well done. I fits the Watchtower to a tee.

  i want to send my heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the canadians for what happened in afghanistan this week.

  it breaks my heart that the actions of this nation have affected your good country in such a horrible way.

  please know that there are many of us in united states who are appalled and dismayed over the "friendly fire" accident.

  Also I see the N York times makes no mention of it.

  There is growing sentiment here, to bring our troops home, especially after the raw deal Canada got on the twenty nine percent tariff the Canadians got on softwood lumber exports to U S.

  It is mentionned that this organization handles liability insurance for the churches and has done a survey to calculate how many pedophiles claims have been made agaisnt the churches.

  Now the big question is: Does the Watchtower hold liability insurance for child abuse allegations.

  In the days of Russell, door to door, colporter work was the established method of distributing information and goods. You had wagons travelling from farm to farm distributing house wares, snake oil, encyclopedias, and books. No telephones, radios, and modern communications.

  Door to door work is an anachronism. They have made it into a Sacrement.

  I pioneered in Quebec for many years. While there I learned that Catholics go to a shrine, called Saint Anne de Beaupre. There the faithful would climb a long torturous stone staircase on their knees, while counting their beads. By this they were to receive some healing or blessing or brownie points.

  Meeting attendance and door to door work are similar futile exercises, that have long ago lost any effective benefit that they may deliver.

  Joan Baez article in NY Times

  a while ago there was discussion on this board about people who hear voices within their heads.

  some of the posts stated that this was a sign of mental illness, others said a sign of inspiration.

  for me, joan baez is one of the sanest people on the planet.. there is an article in today's ny times about the folk singer joan baez.

  There is an article in today's NY Times about the folk singer Joan Baez. It shows where she gets her inspiration. I find this interesting. For me, Joan Baez is one of the sanest people on the planet.
  
  She does not want to write songs anymore, preferring to concentrate on poetry. She fills bound notebooks with her poems, which she says come to her in distinct voices, like that of a black woman she calls Alice and a teenage boy from Germany, Yasha.

  "I have enough for a book," she said. "It's good poetry."
