The answer my friend
Is blowin in the wind.
many christians today believe in a literal place of torment/torture which will be the eternal abiding place of the ungodly/wicked/non-believer.. here's my questions.
lets say a person ends up in hell and is tortured for 500 years.
this person has been in a no let up agony state continually.
On TV (in Canada anyway) there is an ad that continually comes on and I am sick of it, where Donald Trump comes on and at the end of the ad, he, looking directly into the camera, says Your fired!
The movie Narkissos just mentionned shows documents being thrown into a fire. Symbolic no?
It is said of Russell that he put out the fires of hell. Then his followers came up with something worse and hung over the heads of humanity the threat of eternal destruction with Armageddon. I once replied to a JW who threatened me and my young son sitting on my lap with death at Armageddon , ' You can tell your Jehovah, if the only recourse for him was to obliterate with mass destruction all mankind for the vindication of his name, then He could start with me, or he could end with me, and I would go gladly while shaking my fist towards the heavens'.
Reading the Bible, I have come to the conclusion that, it is the figurative fires that are eternel not what is thrown into the fire.
There is not two kinds of fire in the Bible. One for purifying the gold, and one for destruction or eternal torment forevever. There is only a purifying fire. No one can put that fire out. Pick up a sword or a pen and you will experience a retribution of the sword or a pen. I will just paraphrase some texts: one of the apostles writes the exhortation to snatch wayward ones out of the fire. Another, do not be disturbed by the burning amongst you.
Will Hitler receive a ressurrection? I say yes, but only when someone living on earth has enough love to bring him back.
I will try to add to this later.
belbab,
i've read a lot of theories regarding the roots of christianity, but being honest i have never gotten to the real "truth" about it.
if you believe that christianity was very deeply influenced by earlier pagan faiths, what real evidence do we have to support this?.
if you believe that christianity was not influenced by these earlier pagan faiths, how do you counter the claims that aspects of christianity are very similar to many aspects of earlier religious beliefs?.
Usually I read threads such as this one, and get overwhelmed with incoming fire that before I can put down my contribution into bits &bytes with some semblance of order, the thread is dead and buried.
So this time I am going to wing it. I have read each and every post here. I try to absorb it all and try to capture the whole and then compress it as briefly as I can, which always ends up impossible.
This time I'll try to pick a few flowers, wild and cultivated from the thread and just make a small bouquet.
Why did the Whoever, send the Israelite /Jacobites down into Egypt? Why did he choose a man with dual cultural background who 'was instructed in all the ways of the Egyptians' as well as instruction in the ways of Abraham/Israel? Why did Moses dwell for 40 years wandering in the hot desert and stopped to see a bush, its extremities burnt dry with the heat, yet its deep root still supplying moisture to keep part of it alive, realizing that his people likewise, were being consumed yet not consumed. From between the cherubs, Egyptian and Abrahamic, he eventually presented a new constitution to the multitude he brought forth from Egypt.
Why did this multitude settle between the the rift between two continents, hammered over centuries by invasive forces from the east or from south west, the northwest and finally the west? Not only tyrants, but cultural influences also. Some fought against these influences, other absorbed them.
How come, Wise men came from the east with foreknowledge of the birth of a new rising star.
Why the words, Out of Egypt I called my son?
Arriving closer to our day:
By contrast, the efforts of Alexander Campbell, Joseph Smith, Charles Taze Russell, Mary Baker Eddy, John Nelson Darby, Victor Paul Wierwille, and others were aimed at voyaging into the apostolic past and recreating the Christianity of those days. (
Have you ever considered why Russell was so immersed in the Monuments of Whoever, in Egypt? Also, why "Judge" Rutherford, was so entranced with the period of the Judges ?
There is only The One. Problems arise, not when one immerses herself in nature, ancient writings or cultures, or present day ideologies, but when a choice is made to the exclusion of all others.
Knowledge of What and Who is covers the whole earth. Take off your shoes you are standing on holy ground, wherever circumstances and events have placed you. For this moment I have settled here pouring certain or uncertain thoughts into the soup.

the watchtower society explains "hades" as being "the common grave of mankind".
christendom's understanding of "hades" is, for the most part, quite different than that of the watchtower society.
the one similarity between the two beliefs is that in both cases "hades" is considered to be a literal place.. the truth of the matter is that neither the watchtower society or christendom has a correct understanding of the terms "hades".
Schism,
I would definitly like to read and study your article.
I would like to compare it with my own conclusions.
If you do not have the time to retype can't scan it, then could you give a brief summary of it. Or is it one of those subjects that is impossible to put in a few words.?

i want you to know that you have destroyed a family because of your lies about jehovah and his organization.
a family member went apostate and has turned his back on jehovah.
he told us he is never coming back and i know he went and visited internet sites.
Left behind. I find your posting name intriguing. You are left behind, I am sure your loved one would love to have you go out with him. He hasn't forced his opinions on to you has he? He realized you would have to make your own decisions.
As a JW you believe the Bible, No? Well what about the words of Jesus, If one sheep goes astray, you must leave the ninety-nine and go and find the lost one. Why did he say that? I believe it is because that wandering sheep has the key to your shortcomings. The ninety-nine were failing in their shepherding abilities.
In Hebrews 13:12,13 it says that Jesus suffered outside the camp and Let us go to him also outside the camp.
Try it, you might like it.

When I went to Gilead, Brudder Kkknorr, in a talk told us that we did not need to read publications older than eight years ago. That is don't read older publications. Stupid me, I packed around trunk loads of bound volumes for years.
I assumed the reason he told us that was because the changes and errors came so fast we didn't need to go way back before eight years.

announced this am at crooklyn that long time bethelite karl adams has died.. we didn't know him well, just a passing acquaintance from times past.
At that time, Brother Covington stepped aside as a director to comply with what then seemed to be Jehovah’s will—that all directors and officers of the Pennsylvania corporation be anointed Christians. Lyman A. Swingle replaced Hayden C. Covington on the board of directors, and Frederick W. Franz was elected vice president.
Blondie,
Is the above highlight a quote from the WT you sited or is it your own words?
Hayden Covington's letter of resignation is in the WT publications somewhere. I remember the words that he wrote, "that it seemed to be Jehovah's will" that the GB be members be of the anointed.
Does any one question the fact that he steps down and who takes his place as Vice President, why Freddy Franz.
Who do you think would do the Bible research and discover this new truth, why of course, celebrated WT scholar , Freddy Franz.
I knew Covington, I met him in Quebec City, and ran errands for the WT legal and Branch Servant , DO's etc billetted in their multi suite hotel, The Chateau-Frontenac. He gave me a bottle of whisky to show his appreciation for the errands I was doing. He was my hero at that time.
I don't have the facilities to find that letter. Do you think you can find it and post it?

i always preferred the back of the hall.
here, i could go to sleep, read the latest awake!
if you're at either end of the middle row of seats, you can see who has studied their watchtower and who hasn't.
I have thought about this topic before. Thanks for posting it.
Where one sits indicates what his attitude is towards da troot.
At the front Gung Ho.
At the back, Yuk.
In the middle, Hug me mommy.
At the edge of the isle, Don't fence me in,
Along with where you sit, a few other things expose your attitude such as:
What time you get to and leave the meeting.
How much you talk to people before and after.
Body language, fidgeting etc. Looking at the clock.
Of course, not all of these are always right, but over the long haul, ones attitude becomes evident.
For God's sake don't reveal this info to the elders.

it has often been said that the jw organisation of today is far, far different to the organisation that ct russell set up, both in beliefs and teachings as well as administration.
i've even heard it said that if ctr were alive today, he would be disfellowshipped for all manner of 'offences' as proscribed by the modern-day wts!
so, if it were possible for you to ask ctr just one question, what would it be?
This is a true question that was asked of Tazey Russell. Back around 1969 in a small kingdom Hall in Huntington Quebec near the U S/ Canada border, in the library, I found a small booklet which was entited something like this, Charles Taze Russell Answers Questions. This booklet was published in 1915, not long before his death.
One of the question that I remember was: (paraphrasing)
If it came to light that the Bible Students have become part of Babylon the Great, What would you do?
Russell: I would flee as fast as I could out of the Bible Students.
About three years later, after his death, Joey da Judge, and his cohorts came to the conclusion that they, the Bible Students were enslaved by Babylon the Great.
I wonder if any one knows where to obtain a copy of that booklet, It would look good on Quotes website.
