This announcement was approved by all the forum assistants here, each of us having made a contribution to it's content.We also recognised that while many posters did violate forum rules, some posters would feel that they had been treated unfairly, consequently we have resolved in future not to make any permanent deletions without full discussion amongst the forum assistants. This will prevent anyobne being deleted in a fit of pique where personalities conflict with one another.
Which is what I like about it Mike. It's the old "count to 10 before responding" in a way.
That said, I feel I must (oh crap! here goes yer old buddy Bendrr!) do this. This joke was screaming at me when I first read this thread but I just let it simmer for a while. Well I can't keep the lid on it anymore so damn the consequences, here she blows.
So now instead of a single mod unilaterally deleting a poster, it will take an elders' meeting to disfellowship the offender, but in this case no announcement will be made, and the offender will have to petition the elders mods for reinstatement. THIS PLACE IS SUCH A KINGDOM HALL!!!!!!!!

We would like to move beyond whatever issues and problems led to the current acrimony between boards. In the current situation, no one benefits and all are being hurt. We must recognize the need to focus on the pain and suffering caused by the policies of Jehovah's Witnesses / The Watchtower Society. There are people who need a place to learn, some peer support and perhaps even find a way to escape. Other boards can serve other needs, but this is the focus of this board and this is why we want to maintain the guidelines we have in place.
I fully agree Simon. (hmmm...didn't you talk to someone on the phone last year about peace between the boards? No it's ok, you go ahead and take the credit. )
It would be nice to see some of the old pillars of the board back shoring up this old dump. I mean this fine meeting place. Yeah that's it.

the taxes filed thread got me to thinking....what say we here in the us go to a flat tax....18% for those who make over $35,000 a year...no deductions.

Yeru, I like the idea of a fair tax. I'd prefer a national sales tax with the complete abolition of income tax though. Maybe not with the exemption of food though, just a lower tax. In Georgia, the sales tax is lower on food and it seems to work ok.
That wouldn't be unfair to the poor at all. The people who now don't really pay income taxes, and I mean those who get it all back and those who get back more than they paid in, may lose those fat checks in February but they also lose that deduction from their paychecks.
For us actual income earners it would be a boon. More money in our paychecks we can spend or save, either way more of our money remains in our control.
Under a national sales tax, the rich would still carry more of the tax burden since logically they spend more.
But if they do go to that, there should be some provision that there would be no more income tax EVER.

What I really hate about the whole thing is that the US has to pay for all this . GW is giving tax breaks to the rich while expecting to pay for nation building in Iraq and afghanistan . America is struggling to build it's own economy and I don't see how they can justify putting the taxpayer in more debt .
GRRRRRR!!!!!!! That's one phrase that pisses me off above all else. Let's call it what it is truly. President Bush wants tax cuts for the people WHO ACTUALLY PAY TAXES. Even after the tax cuts, the "rich" will STILL PAY TAXES. They will just get to keep more of THEIR MONEY. So don't even start with this junk about "tax cuts for the rich" when 50% of income earners in this country pay 96% of the taxes.
There was a war over taxes early on in our nation's history. In case the lesson has been lost, why not ask the Brits here how it turned out.

Apologize to Afghanistan, not for the war, but for what they did to the people 20 years earlier. It's no wonder there are extremists over there! I'm suprised that Afghanistan people let Americans on they're soil!
Right. We didn't try to subject Afghanistan to communist tyranny. We armed the mujahideen to fight against the Soviets. The Soviets finally gave up and dragged their bruised asses out. Where are they now? What happened after that though was not caused by us. It was caused by muslim terrorists. The great Bill Clinton who never met a dictator he didn't like let the Taliban take over when it was clearly warned in Soldier of Fortune magazine of all places that Afghanistan was the mecca for terrorists in the Middle East during the 90's.
Apologize to the Iraqi's for having to kill they're people. Admit to them that it could have been handled better. EMPHASIZE with them. For god's sake, you killed many children's parents, and many many more kids! Just say one word. SORRY.

Actually Simon I don't take a "my country right or wrong" view of the war in Vietnam. I support the cause but I hate what was done by those in power. It was part of the cold war, the fight to stem the tide of communism, and that's the part of it I support.
