I'm seriously thinking of writing a letter to the paper myself in response. I'd like to point out the neutrality stance and question the need for Slocumb to write his letter, or even meet with Jackass Ellis for that matter. It would be a good opportunity to bring the "secret" U.N. membership to the attention of the public as most are well aware of the JW neutrality policy.

Right now I'm drawing a blank as to what words to write but I'm definitely going to write a response to Slocumb's letter and submit it to the Telegraph. Matter of fact, if anyone else wants to respond personally to Slocumb's letter you can submit letters to the editor of the Telegraph online. During his campaign for mayor, Jack Ellis promised that his office would always be open for the citizens of Macon. So, on Dec. 17, a spiritual brother and I, both Jehovah's Witnesses, called on the mayor to present an important article in our magazine that contained a recent landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that gives us and others a legal right to visit the homes of the people to express our views.
Despite his busy schedule, the mayor saw us personally and treated us very kindly and with deep respect.
We appreciated the mayor's actions.

Jack[ass] Ellis is Macon's first black mayor and even the black folks can't stand him. This is definitely not a racial issue, I was just making a point about how unpopular Ellis is.

Is it just me or does the above letter to the Macon Telegraph come across as a lack of the JW's alleged political neutrality?

Type whatever message I have to post, then click on the "embed page" button at the top of the window, enter the URL for the sound, and BAM! I know it works for *.rm files (RealMedia) not sure about mp3's.

i've seen some discussions in the past here and know a few of you know quite a bit about home stereo equipment so i thought i'd ask your input.. next year i'll be building some new speakers for my home theatre.

i'm using an onkyo dolby digital receiver (probably upgrading to a newer model capable of dts) and most of the time the system is for dvd movies.

i want matching speakers all the way around: front left, right, and center, and the two rear surrounds.

Hi Jack and thanks for the replies. The speakers will be stand-mounted, probably custom built so I can put the Neo8 mid/tweets at ear level. I've come to learn about how to properly position speakers and I want a system that doesn't have one single "sweet-spot" but rather makes the whole room properly listenable. My living room dictates something with a wide horizontal dispersion and restricted vertical because of the size and layout. I'm hoping that the Neo's fit the bill.

Mak, anytime! Just come on over and we'll pop in a DVD and crack open a few cold ones!

This is going to come off as incredibly offensive. If you don't like it, please just ignore it and move on.

The only memorial I want to see at that site is a wall surrounding it with the names of all the victims of 9/11 written upon it. Inside that wall, the remembrance and mourning stop. Inside that wall I want a military base that is the most visible show of force in history. I want to see a massive battery of ICBM's (InterContinental Ballistic Missiles) equipped with the most powerful thermonuclear warheads available and to hell with any arms treaties. And I want those ICBM's above ground, not in subterranean silos. I want the bad guys to see them and feel the fear. I want that nuclear missile base guarded by the best and most powerful defenses available. Helicopter gunships and Harrier jets fully armed. Military troops on patrol fully armed, fortified machine gun emplacements, anti-aircraft batteries, patriot missile batteries, if it goes boom and kills a lot of people I want it there and visible and I want a huge American Flag flying over it all.

And if Osama Bin Laden is ever caught (which I think he will be soon) I want him to meet his fate publicly right in front of the gates to "Ground Zero". I'm sure you watched the movie "Hannibal". Remember the fate that wacko millionaire had planned for Lecter? Well I think it would be appropriate for Bin Laden to meet the same porcine demise in front of the cameras of CNN and Al-Jazeera.

Lottery Tickets & Gambling

when you were active, did you buy any lottery tickets?

i know a xjw who told me that he never stopped buying lottery tickets, even when he was active.

he always asked somebody else to go get them for him, so that he wouldn't be seen buying them.

I don't play the lottery anymore. When Georgia first rolled out our state lottery I'd play a few scratch-off tickets here and there but just didn't get into it. I never won more than free tickets and $5 here and $10 there. Now I don't play at all, but haven't forbidden myself from doing so.

The way I look at it, the lottery is just an annoying delay at convenience store cash registers and the only good thing about it is that it's a tax on the poor who definitely don't pay their fair share. Until I actually play it and win a sizeable amount of money that's about all I can say about the lottery.

Actually, the biggest problem I have with the lottery in Georgia is this. I can go to a bar and see naked women dancing, I can call an escort service or hit a massage parlor for some poon, and I can gamble in the state lottery. But I can't buy beer, wine, or whisky on Sunday. I can buy a lottery ticket on Sunday, but not a six-pack. When the state legislature finally pulls their collective head out of their collective behind and jacks the stupid "blue laws" maybe I'll pour a few bucks into the allegedly "education-supporting" state lottery.

Don't get me started!

What Drives You Crazy???

What drives me crazy is when I'm buying something and the cashier tries to get my address and phone number. Radio Shack sound familiar here? (they're not the only ones anymore)

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE RADIO SHACK YOUR ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER AND THEY CAN'T FORCE YOU TO SO DON'T DO IT!!!

I could go off on a whole 'nuther rant but I'll cut it short.

All y'all who replied about telemarketers, well sorry but you only have yourselves to blame. Unless my purchase is being delivered, I don't give out my address and phone number to any store whatsoever. I get almost no calls from telemarketers for that very reason, and I'm not even on my state's do-not-call list. Hell, my last employer never did have my phone number and I once had a landlord who never knew my last name!

Next year I'll be building some new speakers for my home theatre. I'm using an Onkyo Dolby Digital receiver (probably upgrading to a newer model capable of DTS) and most of the time the system is for DVD movies. I want matching speakers all the way around: front left, right, and center, and the two rear surrounds. I'll probably be buying the drivers from partsexpress.com since they seem to sell good stuff at a fair price.

I've pretty much got the subwoofer selected and the woofers for the front and rear speakers. I was thinking of 2 woofers per speaker for the front left, right, and center, and rear surrounds. I think they call it a d'appolito array, on the front panel put a woofer on top, mid/tweet in the middle, and another woofer at the bottom. I've also got the woofers picked out. But for the mid/high range I came across a ribbon speaker that sounds interesting. The Bohlender-Graebner Neo8 Planar Transducer. Here's a link:

Just wanted to know if any of you audiophiles can tell me more about this speaker and whether I should invest in 5 of them for a Dolby Digital/DTS surround system.
