Every morning the dawn patrol walk ever so slowly up the street, two or three abreast on both sides. They are talking to each other for there is no one else (hours). Occasionally they will thrust a magazine into the hands of an unsuspecting passerby (sales). Studies are conducted with elderly (lonely) ones or unbaptized minor children (return visits). Very few with no already existing connection are getting baptized (made disciples). Morale is low. If they're planning another round of shepherding calls they can skip mine.

WT to Congregations, Grow or Go
by benext init was related to me this morning the society has instituted either a new or unofficial policy that congregations with attendance (not publisher) averages of less than 70 will be merged into the nearest congregation.
i know of one elder who will inflate his cong.
average to keep his "spot.

It could possibly be this "experiment" will start in the NYC area where it can be monitored by HQ. The simplified literature arrangement started the same way. A few congs have already been dissolved and these two will merge before the next service year. This elder made a point of telling me he became the service overseer a couple of months ago and since his is the "original" cong. the merging brothers will have to take a back seat.
As for attendance taking there were some interesting conversations as to who got counted (those sleeping, babies, etc.) and how far into the meeting someone could enter and still be counted. We had one sister who would arrive a few minutes before the PT would end and the PO would want her and 3 children counted.

What Made You Realize The WTBTS Was NOT The Truth
by Kevin inmy wife is a jw.. i've been trying to point out the errors of the wtbts but she just doesnt want to hear it.. i'm wonder if some people could share your turning point in regards to your relationship goes.
with the society.
what made you realize that the society was false.

The behavior of the members pretty much convinced me they had no "truth." It was always emphasized how the mark of a true Christian was the love they have for each other. Go to any congregation and watch who sits on the opposite side from each other, there's a good chance no words have passed between them for years.

June 1st Watchtower - The brothers are tiring out
by truthseeker inhere's a little gem from the june 1st 2004, wt.

Perhaps they should publish the attendance of GB members at their home cong. meetings. Bethelites are notorious for missing meetings. At my last cong. 40% of the Bethelites would be missing at any given meeting with the exception of the bookstudy.

WT to "donators" take your money back, please
by benext ini had an interesting conversation this weekend with an elderly sister.
she told me about a letter she received from wt not more than a month ago.
it seems they had a program in place where they would "hold" money that would be used in the event of your death to pay funeral arrangements.

This is not a charitable donation. It was an arrangement to have the Society hold the funds like an insurance policy, interest free no doubt. The person in question had two people listed who would take the funds upon her death and make funeral arrangements. She did this to assure she would be buried, not cremated.

It seems they had a program in place where they would "hold" money that would be used in the event of your death to pay funeral arrangements. The letter stated she would have to take this money ($2,500) back due to the IRS and tax consequences. Another sister was told if she didn't ask for her $1,500 back it would have to be kept by the Society.
This is the first I've heard of that "loving provision."

Remember Dateline??
by Joyzabel ini'm trying to get some comments that active jehovah's witnesses may have heard after dateline aired back on may 28, 2002.
do you remember any comments made about the dateline program either made from the platform at the kingdom hall, or in private conversations with other jw's?
how were the people who where on dateline viewed in your area, especially at the kingdom hall or by other jws?

This was around the same time I stopped attending meetings. An Bethel elder called me and I mentioned the Dateline story as one of my concerns. He said the reports coming in at Bethel were very positive and it gave them an opportunity to give a "good witness" in the Field.
