The killing of Job's family...

i'm having a conversation with a couple of people in my office as i type this.

i'm asking the question "why did god allow satan to kill job's family?

" i told them that to say he did it to prove job's faithfullness and that he got even more in return for his faithfulness is not a good enough answer.

Are your office mates arguing that killing Job's family was justified? Saying, in effect, that the means justify the ends.

At first yes, but then when I gave the example of me killing someone family and then replacing them with a better family is that OK. Why is it OK for God to do something but wrong for me to do it. We're suppose to imitate God right? They didn't know what to say to that. It actually made them think.

I'm not sure where this conversation is heading and I'm not even trying to make a point or change anyone's belief. I just brought the question up and I'll let them think about it.

There in lies the problem. They actually believe it really happened. I say it didn't and that someone wrote it to make a point. They can't seem to explain away God condoning the slaughter of Job's children if it really happened. They are reading up on it now and we'll probably discuss it more after lunch.

I love making people think. So many people are stuck in their little box of beliefs and when someone raises a valid point you can see them start to actually think.

I also ask them why the human race was created. They say it's to worship God. If it's just to worship God then that would make God an egomanic. I'm mean why would you create something just to worship you. It doesn't make sense.

I'm having a conversation with a couple of people in my office as I type this. I'm asking the question "Why did God allow Satan to kill Job's family?" I told them that to say he did it to prove Job's faithfullness and that he got even more in return for his faithfulness is not a good enough answer. In my opinion, the ends don't justify the means. Allowing the slaughter of an entire family just to prove your right is pretty sad in my eye. God is supposed to be all powerfull and all knowing. So why would he do such a horrible thing. If I was to kill an entire family to prove a point I would be considered a monster, but it's OK for God to do? What do you think?

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to slam God or anything like that. We were just discussing different subjects and I brought this up. I like doing that to people. Try to get them to think outside the box or bible in this case.

Did they try to get you to do prison witnessing?

i remember them trying to get a bunch of sisters to go prison witnessing.

i felt very uncomfortable about the whole thing.

i voiced my concerns to an elder and was told we were only witnessing to the women and we were safe.

I went a couple of times when I was a teenager. Went with a brother that held a bible study with some of the inmates. It was a minimum security prison, so their weren't any harden criminal there. Mostly Martha Stewart types. I actually found it pretty interesting. Not the studying, but the whole prison environment. Maybe I'm a criminal at heart!!.

david chesney, kenny's father, reportedly attended the nuptials in st. johns, u.s. virgin islands as a preacher performed the 15-minute ceremony in front of a small group of friends and family members.

Wow, I've got something in common with Kenny Chesney. Neither of our mom's came to our wedding becasuse they are controlled by the Watchtower Society.

On a cool note, I got to go backstage and meet Kenney at a concert he did in our town. I took a picture of my wife and her sister with him. He seems like a really cool guy.

How Do YOU Feel Knowing That YOU Were In A Cult?

for years, i refused to think of the witnesses as a "cult".

too harsh and restrictive of a word for me......but there is no denying that we were all in a mind controlling cult.

are you embarrassed or uncomfortable knowing that you belonged to a cult just like the moonies and the branch davidians are/werw a cult?

I guess I really don't feel much of anything. I was raised in it so it's not my fault I was taught all that BS. Besided if I wasn't raised a JW my life would be totally different now. I wouldn't have moved to a new town, met my incredible wife, and started a great job. Yeah I was raised a JW and even got baptised, but I'm not going to let that bother me now that I'm out. I'm not embarrased to tell people I was a JW. Heck if anything if they know I was a JW and have any questions I can warn them ahead of time to run screaming from the witnesses.

What did they all do on "worldly holidays" when you were home alone?

i always hated being alone on thanksgiving or christmas.

what bothered me was that if it were known you accepted an invitation by relatives it was frowned upon.

but what got to me was this: is god more pleased that i am home looking at four walls alone rather than being over somebody's house??

I got phone calls many times. Every time someone was moving I got a call. Every time someone had computer problems I got a call. They always knew who I was when there was a gift or money to contribute, or some physical labor to be done. There was plenty of upbuilding association - upbuilding for everyone but me.

Aint that the truth. When I moved to a new town the only time I was invited over to the "brothers" homes was to fix their computer or help with something. That really pissed me off. I missed work and the meetings once for over 2 weeks when I came down with a serious respiratory infection. Not one of my so called "friends" called or came by to check on me. They just hounded me when I went back to the meeting to see why I had missed. Ironicly, my "worldly" workmates and landlady checked on me, made me dinner, and my landlady even let me pay my rent late since I hadn't worked in 2 weeks. That was one of the first things that opend my eyes. I finally started seeing who my true friends were.

What movies make you think of the Borg?...

i was watching a great sci-fi movie the other day (chronicles of riddick) and there was a phrase in the movie that jumped out at me.

a soldier was being promoted and he said the phrase "obedience without question, loyalty till underverse comes".

i thought "wow, just replace underverse with armageddon and that sound just like the witnesses".

i was watching a great sci-fi movie the other day (chronicles of riddick) and there was a phrase in the movie that jumped out at me.

a soldier was being promoted and he said the phrase "obedience without question, loyalty till underverse comes".

i thought "wow, just replace underverse with armageddon and that sound just like the witnesses".

I was watching a great Sci-Fi movie the other day (Chronicles of Riddick) and there was a phrase in the movie that jumped out at me. A soldier was being promoted and he said the phrase "Obedience without question, Loyalty till Underverse comes". I thought "Wow, just replace Underverse with Armageddon and that sound just like the Witnesses". In fact the whole movie had allot of aspects of the JW's. Fanatic religous sect going from world to world either converting or destroying them. Mind control, the taking away of pain with the promise of life in the Underverse, backstabbing and plotting against each other.

So what movies remind you of the Borg?

PS. If you like Sci-Fi movies, I highly recommend this movie. Stunning visuals and a great storyline. It's the sequal to Pitch Black.

Last JW meeting

when you finally came to the jw meeting that you knew was your last one, what were your thoughts, feelings or actions?

my last was the summer convent of 1986. i stood there until everyone left and then i took a picture with my new camera of the empty stadium, the wish being that the wts would collapse and never fill up again stadiums with people.

I was at a Ciruit Assembly. Halfway through the morning session a started looking around at people and thought to myself "What am I doing here?". I got up and walked out in the middle of the program. Never went back after that. I can still picture it in my head today. It was a beautiful sunny day when I walked out. I rememeber taking a deep breath of fresh air and smiling as I walked to my truck. The feeling of freedom was amazing. I took the rest of the day to visit with my mother.

PS. I was in a different curcuit than my mother so my family didn't attend the same CA as I did.
