I was contacted by a friend of Randy, also an ex JW, because he thought I still lived in San Antonio. Since I no longer live there, I could not help. I am not at liberty to discuss this problem in public.

Misinformation in CoC
by ICBehindtheCurtain inhello everyone, i know that many here like me have read ray's book crisis of consience, i was very impressed with it, it helped open my eyes to the hypocrisy and double standards of the wts, and ray gave me the impresion of being a very loving and kind man, not the demonized apostate we were all lead to believe.
but, i noticed something that wasn't quite correct when i was reading the part that spoke of then brother rene vazquez, he makes it seem like all rene did was have private conversations with ray and nothing else, this is not true, i for a fact know that this was not all that happened.
in a ms meeting on tuesday back in 1980, rene was conducting a part and he went up to the stage with only his bible, he started saying that all we needed was the bible, that we would no longer be using other publications by the wts .

I think misinformation is a stretch of the facts. From reading both of Ray’s books, they were both memoirs/commentary rather than historical fact checked documentaries. With this genere, an author has latitude that is generalized (leaving out details) and personal bias to frame the narrative to their perspective at the time of writing.

JWD a Dysfunctional Place?
by Victor_E inwith the recent blood baths we have seen in this forum it got me wondering of how you can objectively understand it and more importantly not let it affect you if you so choose.
what i write is not meant to be taken as gospel truth since there is no gospel truth nor is it my intention to get on my soap box since i left it when i walked out of the kingdom hall.
most of what i have to say is subjective based on personal experience and i feel no need or desire to debate anyone about anything i write.

Longhairgal I never kept up with anyone from the forums. I drop in every few years to find some are dead. One that comes to mind is Farkel. My impression of him based solely on his postings was that he was deeply wounded and never healed to the extent of rising above his JW experience.

Name one POSITIVE thing you took from your experience as a Witness
by geodude ini was thinking about this at work the other day, and realized the one positive thing i can truly credit the jws with: .
i have no fear of public speaking.
i was a shy kid, fat, clumsy, with crooked glasses and worse teeth, who wore hand-me-downs in one of the wealthiest counties in all of america, who sat still while classmates got up to salute the flag or recite the pledge of allegiance.

In my experience how to identify cultish dynamics in any group or organization and how to navigate this powerplay.
I can identify with you fearlessness of public speaking. I was able to take it to a professional level by taking the Dale Carnegie Course on public speaking with a focuses on your experience and not parroting the ole centuries old tripe.

The Courage to Heal
by Victor_E inthe courage to heal.
in a study done at the university of houston researchers concluded that a person with deep psychological issues would go through a five-step process.
i concur with this study after having worked with offenders on probation for drug and alcohol problems and sexual and physical abuse survivors.. .

I wrote his post 17 years ago under a different account. Still relevant.

Anatomy of a former JW
by Victor inone of the respondents on my post on mental illness stated that it was the same of ex jw's.
i thought about this for a couple of days and drawing from my personal experience, i can say that this is mostly true.
if one is disfellowshipped, the act of forcibly cutting off all ties to a jw's way of life is painful and in some cases inducing cognitive dissonance.

JW's and all other cults have always existed and always will so long as man fears the unknown and needs someone to turn to as an insurance to silence the existential anxiety. Once you have been in a cult every organization has cultish practices. I've seen it in corporate America, agencies, and even family owned businesses.
