Stupid things JW's say: Todays stupid phrase "young ones"
by Check_Your_Premises inwe all know that cults use loaded language as well as redefine words and phrases to have their own special meaning.. not to long ago i was talking to a very devout jw sister (totally brainwashed just doesn't describe it) about my daughter.
she kept talking about the "young ones".
she must have said the phrase twenty times over the course of the conversation.

"The two yutes, your honor?"

Poll: The Big News
by Jourles in.
will jr "spinmaster" brown come out and address this news or issue "no comment?".
my guess --- no comment.

They will always have a comment. To many witnesses the comment will be from God's lips to their ears. To the "smart" ones in and out, it will be another example of "euphemistic doubletalk" that doesn't work on thinking people.
I am trying to keep up with all the hubbub but I still haven't seen a date for the "event". Is there one?

Huge shock!
by Crumpet ini just got a major shock.
i can't believe the new levels of cruelty possible within families who are jws.. a friend on this board who i've known since i was a baby practically has managed to get me a picture of my little sister who i haven't seen for 8 years - the one who i've mentioned my dad said was working on the bethel quick build team.
the one who i've described my fears that she and my younger sister are staying single until armageddon.

Crumpet - I am going through a similar thing with my witness family members and I'm not even df'd. Sometimes I just can't believe how heartless they seem, but I am learning that it is not about me. That is the hardest thing to do I think, after years of programming that tells you that you "deserve" the shunning and that they are doing it BECAUSE they love you.
Hang in there and try to spend time with positive people. We need to let go of the anger, the regrets, the resentment, the fear, and the guilt or we can't be happy. Looking from the outside in, we can see that THEY aren't a happy people. While they think (or SAY they think) that shunning is loving and they hope it pushes you to return. But we need to remember that the best "witness" we can give them is to be happy, let them see that our happiness is real and not dependent on the drone of the hive.

Why do dubs think they're smarter than everyone else?
by MsMcDucket inhave you ever noticed this?
i mean it could be about something as simple as washing dishes, but they knew how to do it a better way.
has anyone else had an experience with a witness that just knew it all?

why celebrate christmass?
by Cordelia inok so its nearly christmass and i'm thinking of celebrating it for the first time, but i feel alittle wrong in doing so, i know all the witness reasoning of why its wrong and just wondered what your reasons are as to why its right!.
i have a 3 year old little girl and would love to make it nice for her (tho my family would go mad!
) im thinking of getting a baby tree (one that can easily be hidden!

Nothing in Reasoning book about Disfellowshipping
by Goldminer ini had a talk with my father last night about the practice of disfellowshipping.my father is an active jw with privileges in the local hall.he doesn't seem in total agreement with the shunning practice of the wts,and he brought out the example of the prodigal son.we had a good discussion and i'm going to research it some more through the chapter on the misuse of disfellowshipping in the book in search of christian freedom.. anyways,i thought i'd look it up in the reasoning book to see what the wts reasoning on disfellowshipping was.it turns out it's not in the table of contents or in the index.i thought this odd;how would one reason on this with a householder who asks about it?
why is there nothing in the reasoning book on a subject every jw says is scriptural?.

My friends experience at elder school
by Grouper ina friend of mind went to elder school recently and i convoy the following for him: .
the co asked him previously if he could assist with a demonstration showing the superiority of wtbts education to university education.
my friend holds a few masters' degrees and will be starting a phd program soon so the co thought he would be an excellent candidate to demonstrate the superiority of wtbts education, but there was a little problem my friend he said no.

oh brother.
the real reasons they discourage "university" education:
1. the kids are 18 and don't HAVE TO keep up the routine at the KH if they don't want to.
2. it's not the sex, drugs, or alcohol
3. it's the fact that many will learn how to THINK for themselvesAs a life-long witness myself from 20 yrs on, I didn't learn how to think critically until I got out of their grasp - I was in my 50's. Once you learn to do that, the house of cards comes tumbling down, the emperor stands naked exclaiming "Pay no attention to the naked emperor, his clothing is figurative and only the clean of heart can see it."
and that's my 2 cents on WT giving skills for successful living.
oh brother.

by doinmypart in.
a couple of points from the u.s. branch november 2005 km.. in the u.s. there is a federal law (hipaa) protecting a patient's privacy.
the km announces what a publisher must do when admitted to a hospital, if he/she wants to receive elders visits.. a question box discussing donations made to the worldwide work rather than specific disaster relief.. see the attachments.. .

"Our directing donations primarily to the worldwide work allows for more funds to be available for use in connection with all features of the Kingdom work rather than being held only for future relief needs." (Kingdom Ministry Nov 2005)
"Rather than being held for future relief needs?" How would it be possible for someone to earmark a donation for a "future relief" need?
And this is from Nov 2005, the year of the tsunami (give a week), katrina, the Indian earthquake, to name a few of the catastrophes that will be needing relief for many years to come.
Who really is your neighbor? Their self-serving, money-grabbing, isolationist behavior makes me sick. AND they put it in print - amazing................ shamelessness
