whats with this story from queensland about a dr death who massively bungles surgical procedures?
see what the news report say about "his religion" and "jehovah's witnesses"?
WOW...... I have that paper sitting in my kitchen right now and somehow missed that article. The TV news runs stories on him every night here. Nothing about him being a JW though. Sounds crazy enough to be one, but he was probably just trying to drum up work.

i have already posted bits and bobs about my "story"... i like the companionship i have found here and i feel it about time i get this off my chest, so here it goes.
i am a 20 year old montrealer (it is me above!
) who was brought up a witness from the day i was born.
Aint it great how many sincere and genuinely nice people there are out there.

in the last month i left my job of 15 years for a new company (better benefits, room for advancement, yadda yadda).
i'm pretty excited about this new job - and it's a very large company.
there are over 4,000 employees in just this one branch division that i work in.
."Yea - I'm sure that's what Jesus would have done"
Got it in one! They think they are working in harmony with Jesus principles. Dumb-ass's. They are the one's with the problem. Mind control and repitition are wonderful tools.
It has no hold over us. We are Free. We are Happy. Shun us, and it just makes our life that much quieter.

most of us often talk about what we don't like in the jws and why we left but i think there are some smart persons/families/entire congs there who know how to play the system, they don't really give a toss about the wts ideology (or behaviour) but they stay there just to have a good social or family life in exchange for giving 5 or 7 hours to the org per week.
to them it is a social club not a religion.
have you seen or heard anything on this?
I have never seen whole congs playin the system, but individuals just livin the life for the perks i've seen a plenty. Elders lovin the respect - take away their privs and they just melt away. Young ones just going to Thursdays meeting to organise their weekend partys. My dad hates the meetings - he goes sporatically but will never leave it totally.
I think these ones are a little gutless. They don't go for the love of the religion. They inside feel that they don't really want to go, but are to chicken to make the first move.
Just do it. Face the concequences. Move on and live your life.

Your life so far certanly has had its ups and downs. Now you're with Daniel, hopefully things will be smoother sailing. The important thing is to be informed and positive about the reasons the society is wrong and misleading. With your studys in paganism, i think you are certanly mooving in the other direction.
Your story had me feeling quite a few emotions all at once, first sad, then happy. We both wish you the best of luck. Don't feel guilty. Definately continue to drop into here on a regular basis. *** Knowledge is power ***

I wish to be remembered as a guy who did the best that he could.
That made decissions and stood by them.
That i was only to willing to help someone out.
Looking after my family and protecting them in every way that i was able. Financially, spiritually, morally, physically.

they are interested in talking to as many people as possible about our experiences with the jw religion.
i'd be willing to have a talk, but i'm "stuck" in brissie. Let me know if there is some other way i can contribute.

here is my situation: i am in the sacramento area of california.
i have a good friend of mine that is a jw.
she has recently not been attending meeting and not reading her watchtower.
As one who only recently decided to leave, i can still easily remember the old life. Being born a witness, and staying till i was 26, the teachings and ways of a witness are still fresh. Please understand, you can not take a witness out of the religion by simply insisting they are wrong, or that their society is mis-leading them.
We are taught repiticiously NOT to dabble in other faiths or ideas, and to cut off those that act against these directions. We dont even question why we are taught that. Your only way of helping a JW is to find ones already questioning their faith, and then slowly build on their own dis-satisfaction. Let them lead themselves away. They cant be dragged away, or pushed.
Like in the Matrix, where Morpheus finds Neo because he was already searching for answers to questions. Questions he didn't even know yet. Neo just knew that something wasn't right, and was searching for what that was. Morpheus finds Neo, waits for the right time, and offers him the pills. It then becomes Neo's own responsability to see the answers or not.
God i love that movie.

i have been lurking for quite a few months.
i have been trying to get up enough nerve to tell you my whole story but am finding it painful and scary to write about.
so here's the shorter version until i get brave enough to spill all the details.

A loss is hard to cope with, and knowing what to say the one suffering a loss is equily difficult. You are among friends here. Likely you will never meet many of us, but we are all feeling your pain and hope things pick up for you in the future.

well, i have read the first few chapters of the latest edition and am surprised at what i read.. the bickering behind the society - how some decisions were not based on scriptural reference - the 607 date - and where the gentile times 1914 thing came about - the malawi/mexico business - ray franz has a very interesting story about the society/governing body amongst other things.. it seems that ever since he was there, he constantly came across things he didnt agree with.. the voting system that was set up to see what articles went in the magazines.. there was one bit in there about being "scriptually free to marry".
one sister caught her husband and an animal together....well..you know......and she divorced him.
she remarried but then told she wasnt free to scriptually marry and they disfellowshipped/dissassociated her.......how ridiculous is that.. and so the story goes........... i thought i would just put my bit in on the first section i have read...will write more when i have read more..
I am only about a quarter into the book. Personally, all the datails about dates is lost on me as i never really bothered with them before.
However, what does get me is how the obvious man-run org is so cleverly passed off as gods chanel tho humans. How they simply make things up as they go along.
One of the biggies so far is the two thirds majority needed for a decission. Not two thirds of those present at a particular sitting, but two thirds of the total GB. If only half the brothers are present, and they all vote "yes" for something previously "no", the decission would be to leave it unchanged as "no".
These men are in literaly in control of peoples lives, deciding if they live or die.
