Welcome JWB-
Well, we were allowed to play sports on our own but not as part of a school or other organized group. All the JWs I knew watched sports on tv and it was okay to go to sporting events.
But uh, yeah...welcome to you too, Brother Bennett...I don't think sports cause violence. You can draw correlations where ever you want to, doesn't mean it's a cause.
By the way, I'm going to reiterate what some other people have posted, this forum is mostly comprised of X-Jehovah's Witnesses....nice interception BroBennett. -

mmm, yeah, the whole thing is kind of funny to me. I wasn't allowed to listen to his music growing up because of the religion and now he's part of it...but you know, alot of his music has always had lyrics about god in them and he was raised Christian Science so maybe it's not that surprising he's a JW now. Anyway, the religion was really strict and hard on many of us but I'm not so sure it's as strict or hard on a rich and famous musician who has been saved by Jehovah from a life of evil. He looks like a good convert to have.

Celebrites in the Borg
by what_Truth? ini was wondering how many famous actors, musicians, and other public figures either are jw's or became jw's at some point in their life.
eveyone knows about prince{b], and michael jackson, but i've also heard that they snagged up george benson, a former indian prime minister and rapper dres of the group the black sheep.
obviously this will be a short list since the society doesn't do much to encourge any kind of success, especially not the kind that will leave you with millions of adoring fans.

Swan- Eisenhower was famous...and yeah, he left like us--don't know that he ever spoke against the org though. Anyway, there's always a little JW left in every apostate. Not all the people on the list are current JWs.

some confusion here...I think some people are talking about Living waters -the Kirk Cameron religion (look at the "Way of the Master" link). I think there's one part on the living waters website where they talk about JWs but I don't think they are a JW splinter group. Apocalyptic sure...but a splinter group, I'm doubting. This one from Alabama mentioned "Jehovah Truth living waters" sounds different than Kirk Cameron's church. Movello, which one are you talking about? Could you give an exact link? Am I missing something?

Death with Dignity
by onacruse ini've presented myself on this db with a strong inclination that there is such a thing a death with dignity, including my expressed (and still resolved) determination to refuse a blood transfusion (or any other organ or fluid implant from another human being) to prolong my life (for reasons that have nothing to do with jw pseudo-theology).. in that determination, i obviously have a personal ideal of a "death with dignity.".
however, last night, i watched an interview wherein the commentator said "there is no dignity in death; there is only dignity in life.".
it gave me serious pause for thought.. i'd appreciate your perspectives.. craig

Well, it's a hard one. For me, I think that maybe there are grades of dignity at death. To die because a procedure was refused that could have saved someone, in my perspective would be undignified. But this is just me. To have lived a long life and be surrounded by loved ones has some dignity in it. But I think that statement you bring up is true to some extent. I watched a family member die of cancer and in the way she was surrounded by our family when she died I would say it was dignified but at the same time, physically it was undignified. I don't know Onacruse it's a confusing subject I think, there's a lot of grey area in it....
