What exactly do you mean by retirement? I am 54 and do hope to 'retire' from the outfit I work for now, but I do not intend to quit working. I would like to start a second career whether it is selling real estate or working part time down at Home Depot. I really do not relish the idea of sitting in my rocking chair on the front porch till I die. DO YOU?

i was discussing with my auntie how in the 70's transplants were not allowed, and then in the 80's they were, and asked that since people died by not having a transplant what evidence this had of gods direction.

he answer enlightened me.

she said "transplants were dangerous in the 70's and so god was protecting his people from them.

Has anyone tried asking a Witness, why are J.W.'s the only people in the world who believe Jerusalem was destroyed in 607?

If you were newly inactive, did you feel pressure to attend the Memorial?

i'd be interested in hearing your experiences, if you were newly inactive and felt pressured to go to the memorial.

did the jw's pressure you to go or did you feel guilty for missing the lord's evening meal (well, we all miss it anyway when we pass it round)

No one has ever pressured my wife and I to attend, it is just assumed that you will. I am not sure how I feel about attending. Not attending is one of the really big taboos and I find myself uncomfortable either way I go. To boot, my brother claims to be of the anointed and we attend the same cong. If we stayed away it would surely draw attention to my wife and I. We've been trying to fly beneath the radar and have been pretty successful so far. I am not even sure when it is this year.

i believe it was paragraph 17, the one that spoke about the faithful slave and how there are those who wish to be "independent" and that this is wrong.

two comments came, both from elders.

elder 1: so what the paragraph is telling us is that instead of developing an independent spirit we actually want to be developing a spirit of dependece upon god's organization and the spiritual food they provide.

A person ignores it because to give it place in your mind is intolerably painful. The comfortable thing to do is put it out of the mind and not dwell on it.

How long did it take each of you to begin to take seriously your doubts and questions? Than how long did it take before you had the courage to verbalize your doubts, if not to others, even to yourself? Some of us, me included, began this journey years ago and the journey is far from over.

We got a double whammy at our meeting Sunday. The speaker giving the talk said we should do what the faithful slave tells us no matter how strange it might sound at the time. He then went on to emphasize the importance of obedience to the elders since they represent the faithful slave. And several in the audience were nodding their heads in agreement. Or maybe they were nodding off to sleep. Who knows?
