Hello everyone....I don't post very often but I read every day. I'm the 42 yo lesbian with a JW roommate. My question is about ownership of the kingdom halls. My roommate told me the other night it was announced that they didn't have enough money to make the mortgage payment this month (they had a new hall built almost 2 yrs ago). Does the society lend the congregation the money for the land and the building or do the elders have to get a loan from a bank or something? My thinking is the society pays for all this and the congregation has to turn around and re-pay the society the principal plus interest...and even when it's paid off the society still owns all of it. Am I correct? A while back, I had shown my roommate the Newsday article which has the wtbts one of the top 40 companies in NY with over 900 million in revenue. She said she wasn't giving them any more for the mortgage this month...they had enough money already. :)

baptized roommate talked to elders about Barbara Anderson
by oppgirl63 inmy roommate(baptized) met with 2 elders last night and gave them "the discoveries of barbara anderson".
she told them that she believed mrs. anderson was telling the truth.
she didn't think that mrs. anderson would have given so many years of service to jehovah and then just walk away.

I hope no one thinks I'm a troll....I never came in contact with the JW's until I saw my now roommate after a 17 year absence. My original post was really asking whether or not she would be pressured to move after her baptism. It has been suggested to her...but she says that she's not. Now this past week she told a pioneer at her hall about Barbara Anderson and the pioneer got so upset that she was talking to her. She came to our house (I was at work) and said that as long as that material was in the house that Satan was in the house. I thought WTF!!
I think they are all brainwashed. I've never been a JW and never will be.

I knew her user id...I just wondered if there was a website or something where my roommate could e-mail her directly. Sorry for causing problems. I guess I can let her come here and post something to her under my user id.

My roommate(baptized) met with 2 elders last night and gave them "The Discoveries of Barbara Anderson". She told them that she believed Mrs. Anderson was telling the truth. She didn't think that Mrs. Anderson would have given so many years of service to Jehovah and then just walk away. She feels she was wrongly disfellowshipped. She was so moved by what she wrote that she would really like to correspond with her. She wants me to try to get an e-mail address or something so she can write her. Does anybody know of such adress?
She also gave them pictures of Russells grave showing the pyramid...they new nothing about it.
The other thread that relates to my story is http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/115052/1.ashx
Any information would be appreciated.

See previous topic: Hello again...I'm back to update this post and post a couple of questions. My roommate did get baptized after the first of the year. She did admit to me that someone did mention to her that she might want to move because I might hurt her spiritual progress, but she hasn't done that and doesn't intend to at this time. She has tried to get me to start studying and I'm just not interested and I don't intend to do that. Well the other day we were just talking about things and I mentioned to her about Barbara Anderson and the Dateline thing and she wanted me to print some of the things I read (she already knows about the UN mess...she even went to the elders with it before she was baptized to get it off her chest). I printed "The Discoveries of Barbara Anderson" and she read it and was very moved by it. One reason is that she was a victim herself of abuse as a child (not JW). She really would like to talk to her. She feels that Mrs. Anderson was wrongly disfellowshipped and she should not be labeled and apostate. The only way I know is to get her to post something here for her to answer...so maybe we'll do that in the next day or two. Now here's what else has happened. She went out in field service last Sunday after her meeting with a pioneer and she told her about Barbara Anderson. I couldn't believe she did this...I knew the lady would run to the elders. The pioneer came over to the house yesterday while I was at work and told my roommate that she was afraid that Satan was going to win her back from the JW's. She said as long as that material was in the house that Satan was in the house (this woman is so brainwashed). She said she was going to go to the brothers because she feels my roommate needs help. She asked my roommate if I was the one giving her this material and my roommate said no (she doesn't want any more pressure about her moving). Anyway...there are some other things I printed (she asked me to do this) about Russell having a pyramid at his grave and some other things. I wonder what the elders will do...I know they will want to talk to her. I told her last night I figured that they would put pressure on her to move away from me and move in with another JW. I'm not trying to get her to leave the JW's....I just want her to know the reasons I'm not interested in it. I really don't care one way or the other...I just don't like the way they seem to think they are better than everyone else. And I do feel there are things that the JW's need to know ...like the UN thing. She is disabled and can't drive so I have to take her to all her meetings and I've never complained about that. I've always made sure she got there because that's what she wanted...so I don't see how they can say that I've hurt her spiritual progress. She told me again last night that she still would like to talk to Mrs. Anderson...she said that she wants to talk to her very much. I'm afraid for my roommate and friend....afraid of the emotional turmoil that I feel she is about to go through. One other thing I wanted to ask is if the Watchtower is still holding shares in the Rand Cam (REGI) company. She wants me to print information on that. Does anyone have a direct link I can go to? I remember a couple of years ago I printed some SEC filings but I never showed them to her (it was the same time I was telling her about the UN thing and I didn't want to bomb her with all this...I thought it would turn her against me). Thanks for all the help....she may come here and post in the next couple of days. IP: Prnob2OUtNkbyrkm -

Happy Thanksgiving, Yall!!
by Frannie Banannie ini have been in the kitchen most of the day baking pies and making dressing and giblet gravy......interspersed with dog- and baby-sitting my 3 g/daughters
i baked some beautiful pumpkin and pecan pies and got the rest of the pie shells pre-baked for the coconut, chocolate & white chocolate cream pies and lemon meringue pies (12 pies in all) cause we're taking some of the food over to my daughter's in-laws' tomorrow, then coming back to take care of the rest of our feast here.
by the time my daughter came home from work, my butt was draggin....so i decided to go to my room and take some excedrin for my back pain.....after about 30 mins.

Thanksgiving is the last Thursday in November. To me...it's simply being thankful for what you have. In my opinion, it's not about our Country or religion. That's why I don't know why the JW's think its wrong to celebrate it. I guess they just like being different (no part of the world).

Below is the last reply I received on Beliefnet...what do you all think?
bama1963 11/22/2005 1:23 PM 11 out of 12 I guess what I really want to know is after she get baptised will she still be able to do things with me without getting counselled by the elders....I'm talking about having dinner, go to beach, etc....nothing that would damage her standing within the congregation. SherB 11/22/2005 1:50 PM 12 out of 12 Yes. It will be her choice, not theirs.
The elders don't micro manage our lives contrary to what some people might tell you. If we have a problem we can go to the elders and ask for counsel. If we are doing something that brings reproach on Jehovah's name because it is wrong, we might receive counsel from the elders. But going to dinner with a friend (even a non witness friend) is not one of those things. -

Can you help me with some one who is not baptised as JW yet? The story:
by Curious Christian inmy best friend is a stone's throw from jw baptism.
she told me she is not celebrating christmas this year.
(this is a gal who used to make it a point to "mend fences" with disgruntled friends and boy friends, in order to trade gifts!

I'm in a similar situation...but like Jaffacake I'm emotionally drained. I'm just suprised she is this close to baptism and still not going to Sunday meetings.
