What they acquired from the UN/DPI was an Associate membership, they did not register with the UN/DPI.

This is what my letter from the WBTS says regarding their library access: "But in 1991, a different person controlling admission refused entry of our researcher to a section of the department where information was dispensed to the media and to which he previously had access. Another employee told him that full access could be gained by registering with the DPI. Although we do not dispute the UN's current statement that registering as an NGO with the DPI was not required to gain general admission, what actually happened, nevertheless, would understandably need to be taken into consideration."

And further on in the letter: "Of course, as we have explained to others who have inquired about this matter, the criteria for association with the DPI contains some language that we cannot subscribe to, and when we realized this, we immediately withdrew our registration in 2001."

the file is being sent throughout many congregations by email to assist the witnesses with "corrections" for their "revelation" book.

Unethical quote from Nature, the magazine?

i just emailed the following to the editorial department of nature, the magazine.

a religious magazine, watchtower, 1998 6/15 p. 28, in their article true justice -- when and how?, quoted your journal nature in order to shore up their lack of support of the use of dna in courts of law.

moreover, the magazine nature notes that not all scientists agree on the interpretation of forensic evidence.

Kinda makes me sad that I dumpsterized all my JW publications back around '86. I had stuff going back to right after World War One that I'd inherited from my father, grandmother and great-grandfather...all of whom were Jehovah's Witnesses. My father had an original copy of the 7-volume Studies In The Scriptures. Got lost in a house fire back in '64 though. Sigh! If only we COULD take back some of more minor past actions!

Gonna cost ya some serious change to replace that pile.

Greetings from the UN Reference Team.

The procedure, prior to 11 September 2001, for a library pass was the following: the interested party filled out an application form and supplied a letter of recommendation in support of the research. If the required material was not available in a UN depository library (the list of depository libraries is posted at: http://www.un.org/depts/dhl/deplib/countries/), the application was approved and forwarded to UN Security. UN Security then checked the application and, if approval was granted, instructed the Pass Office to issue a library pass for the applicant.

The issuance of a library pass was independent of NGO status or any other status. There was no change in the library pass policy until 2001. As a consequence of the September 11 attacks, the issuance of library passes has been suspended.
