I enjoyed what you said in your post. I'm sure there's not one person on this board that wouldn't agree with you. It's wonderful to have people understand what you're saying because they have been there.

i just got back from a 2 hour ride outside.
the temp is around the freezing mark.
and the wind made it feel even colder.
On the rare occasion people would ask you to step in and shut the door so we stood in the entry wall and the warmth. But if you stayed too long you started to overheat from all the layers of clothes needed for being out in the cold.

My experience with householders:
1. They'd be polite and let you talk (we kept it to just the offer d'jour; no sermon)
2. They'd answer the door and tell you that you were crazy for being out in the sub zero temps
3. They wouldn't answer the door, but peer out the window and shake their head "no"

for background info: two elders came to visit this afternoon.
so i'm at work tonight and just before the coffee shop closes, i run downstairs to get something to drink to tide me over the next several hours.
as i approach the kiosque, i see a familiar face approaching from the opposite direction.
I still can't get over how he seemed to be so intimidated by me, and how small and puny he seemed to me.I Know what you mean Scully.I've ran into Elders when out and about. Guys who would have filled me with dread if they came up to me in the KH. Yet now they seem to go into a panic when they see me. One who was so pompous in the KH, when I spoke to him seem to just shrink and mumble his reply.
I came to the conclusion long ago that these guys were like they were in the KH because we let them. We had been cowed into thinking how "special" and important they were. Take that control away from then and they are nobodies.
Aniron - THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I'VE FOUND TO BE TRUE. IF THEY ARE OUT OF THEIR ELEMENT THEY ACT LIKE A NORMAL PERSON, BUT THEY STILL HAVE THE SAME MENTALITY WITH THEIR SUGGESTIONS.
IT IS A VERY INTERESTING CONCEPT. THEY ARE STILL PROGRAMMED TO PUSH THOSE MTGS., LIT., AND STUDIES. TAKE OFF THAT SUIT AND TIE AND THEY TREAT YOU SOMEWHAT AS AN EQUAL.

hi everyone and warmest wishes.....please can anyone help me with this....i'm a very, very ex witness single mum but my teenaged son's dad remains enslaved.
my son has reached his own conclusions about jw beliefs and has now had the courage to voice his dissapointment to his dad about not recieving even a birthday card from him and of course i have supported him.
i would like to be able to use some effective arguments with my ex about the jw stance on birthdays.
Personally I don't think you're going to "get through" to him. Also, he has his standing in the cong. to look after. Perhaps just reinforce that with your son.
Enjoy his b/day with him. Maybe Dad will come around some day and regret what he's doing.
