i have wondered why jws wear" id badges" at assemblys and not on the preaching work or at the hall,i know of someone who was stopped by an attendant because he wasnt wearing a badge.is it something to do with showing off our religious belief to outsiders, i must be honest i use to take mine off when leaving the assemblys but i noticed many wearing theres even when going home on the bus or walking home "i knew of 1 who wore his to bed", mormons wear id cards on their preaching work so do you think jws should.maybe due to the paedophile scandal jws may have to wear id badges especially paedophiles.
because the Society tells them to, and the blind-faith-we-have-no-common-sense-or-real-love-among-us believers only do what the Society tells them to do.

as witnesses, we were frequently counselled to either do or not do things on the basis of not injuring the consciences of others.
to give an example, i used to always grow a beard whilst i was on vacation.
note, i am not particularly hung up on the right to wear a beard, i do not wear one now and i was never too bothered about shaving it off when i returned from vacation.. however, one year i didnt shave the vacation growth off immediately.
a beard on the platform- HA! That's a good one.
Very shortly after my hubby & I had began to pioneer he was the only male pioneer), the CO gave a talk on personal grooming/hygeine, looks DIRECTLY at my husband and says, "We wouldn't want to be a pioneer looking like the Marlboro Man." (referring to his mustache)
Honestly, I never did pay much attention to the 'careful not to stumble your brother' syndrome the org tries to inflict for control. If a person can be shaken from their belief in God by such small things as a mustache, beard, midrif tops, they didn't have much of a firm belief anyway.
once again a hard line is being taken on shunning disfellowshipped and disassociated ones.
perhaps this is some sort of backlash against the recent adverse dateline publicity in the us, the forthcoming pananorama programme in the uk and problems with a number of influential ones leaving the organization.

Considering all the persons effected by their loving & merciful shunning resulting in broken homes, loss of friends, and as was stated: 'a life sentence', it is quite obvious why they feel the need to further manipulate & control the troops thru emotional blackmail- they are, and have always been, in fear of their opposers.

even posting not so often, but with pleasure and feed-back as well, i do wonder why former-jw and i as well with my own subjects - have this "need" to gather and to discuss subjects related to wt.
some seams to use close to hours each days in front of the computer.
i don't see many other web pages of former-catholics or former members of other religions (not of my knowledge - i can be wrong).

to recover from the grips of allowing yourself to become part of such a deceitful, micro-managed, manipulative self-righteous cult, and then to be judged & rendered unacceptable to God by them.
When you accidentally run into your former best friend (for years) in public and they look straight into your eyes with a meaningless stare, void of love or any recollection of fond memories together and carefully alter their path to avoid you-
yes, incidents such as this- and many others- contribute to a gnawing feeling of worthlessness & inadequacy- compliments of the wts. A healing process needs to happen- this board assists in helping to regain confidence that you are not a needless worldly disgusting piece of sludge not even worthy of a 'hello', that there IS life after the WT.

Good point jjrizo. When pioneering, you are made to feel as if the entire cong is interested in your dress, behavior, grooming, habits, hobbies- and you are,responsible for the conscience of all of them. JEEEZ! Get a life!
Once I remember a small group of us planned a boating weekend at the lake- one of the elders approached some of us (pioneers & ms) & asked 'how will this bear on the consciences of the spiritually weak?" Why are we made to consider the lowest common denominator?
one of my biggest pet peeves of being a witness was when the overseer would come visit, and everyone was sooo nice, sweet to everyone, no clicks, they'd arrive early, stay after & talk, everyone would raise their hands, give "heartfelt" answers, looked nice, sang loud, just the model congregation.
yet, when the overseer wasnt there, people would come late, leave early, not be nice to everyone, blah blah.
i guess to me- if they knew what they "should" be doing, why not do it all the time?
PS- your post rings SO true- I remember the week of COs visit many arriving early, all smiley-smiley greetings to every single person there, well thought out prepared wt answers, only 'upbuilding' conversations in the car groups, longer & looser skirts and no sleeveless dresses- no really high, sexy heels [no red toenail polish either]- you don't want to stand out as a worldly person when the CO is giving a talk on dressing like a humble, modest servant of Jah
- the next week all was back to normal
why could they not see their own hypocrisy in it??
