This question's been brought up countless times before. Mostly in 'flame' threads. The irony of it is that look at the board, now. It's full of ppl that weren't posting a yr or so ago. So evidently that argument doesn't have any foundation.

Does Our Arguing Scare People Off???
by minimus inwith so much going on over here, do you think that newbies, lurkers, or potenial apostates could or do get scared off from this place?
if someone is on the fence and they want to explore the internet and are warned that all you'll see are disgruntled apostates, could these forums make them think the "faithful and discreet slave" is actually right?

Amen! There seems to be this inherent need in so many people, to systematize the principles and beliefs, which they personally have embraced, into a religion. In doing so, they set down moral boundaries and begin to define right and wrong, good and evil, for themselves and others, based on whether a belief or action, or an individual, falls within the parameters or this little system of beliefs, this religion they have created.
If one has a strong conviction, fine, proclaim it! If one has an objection, fine, voice it! But dont presume to know the heart and conscience of another individual, simply because he or she may not offer the support you would like them to!
Good point here!
One thing I hate about religious ppl is the fact that some of them can be so judgemental. One of the things I love about religious ppl is that fact that some of them aren't judgemental at all. The non-judgemental type always seem to be more balance and sincere in their beliefs and the least likely to waver.

Is Disagreement REALLY Fanning A Flame?
by minimus ini won't specify a particular subject, but it seems that when someone throws mud at another, there are 2 options.
either accept it or reject it.
if you or others defend a position, especially after an attack, that's "fanning the flames".

What are you supposed to do when somebody tries to accuse or insinuate falsely?
Well one thing u can't do is let them just have their say. That never works. If somebody says something about u enough times, ppl begin to believe it, especially if they are a person whose opinion carry's weight around here on any other place on the net. That can amount to character assasination of the owrst sort in an internet community. That's why I think 'flamewars' can be healthy. It gives both sides a chance to air out the dispute and any onlookers a chance to make decision based on the comments given by the respective sides.

Child abuse is an issue that even today ppl in general don't like to talk about. I think this is because the act is repulsive to most and it has the potential to affect everyone, thus creating fear. ppl don't genrally like to talk about things theyare afraid of. It's the type of thing that u just wish doesn't happen and if it does, u just want to get it behind u as quikly as possible. That, imo, has nothing to do with JW's, Catholics etc... It has everything to do with understanding human nature and the way we all choose to handle taboo subjects like child molestation.

We basically bribed North Korea to discontinue it's nuclear weapons program in the early nineties. As recent revelations have shown, we got played, bigtime. The North Koreans are gonna play this game because they can't feed their ppl and if ppl get hungry enough no amount of brainwashing is gonna keep em from getting really pissed off and giving the tyrants over there a one way ticket to hell.
We cannot afford to make the same mistake with Saddam because his situation domestically isn't as tedious as the N. Korean regime. Saddam doesn't need nukes to bribe the west for food and monetary aid. He doesn't need them for energy either. What could he possibly want them for? IMO, to gain a military advantage in the Middle East and try to become the next Nebuchadnezzar.

From what I've heard of her here she was always ready to help others and seemed to be very highly respected and trusted. A real workhorse for those dealing with cult issues.
She will be missed. My sincerest condolences to her and her family.

If You're No Longer An Elder Or M.S.-- You're Zero
by minimus inone of the most interesting things about no longer being a m.s.
or elder is that when the circuit overseer comes around to visit, no mention is ever made of the person.
it's like they never even existed!

Yep.
If you aren't connected, weren't popular or don't have any family in good standing, odds are they are content to just forget u ever existed. I mean why would they rock the boat and make a big thing outta u leavin? Forget that whole 1 lost sheep over the other 99 thing.
