Ronald Reagan - Too good for the toadies of the international community
by Richie init is quite remarkable how people who've done nothing to really further the cause of peace seem to win the nobel peace prize.
the most glowing insult to the integrity of what this prize should stand for, was best demonstrated with its awarding to yasser arafat, the father of modern day terrorism.. .
although i've never heard of one instant where arafat purposefully placed his life or well being on the line in face to face combat, he has literally sent thousands to their horrible deaths.

not reagan but the stupidity and incompetence of these people brought the soviet union to a fall.
Here, here! Reagan was a man who decided to play hardball with the Soviets at a time when he knew they were at a big disadvantage. He was a rhetoric-filled figurehead who ignored a lot of social problems at home, while running a somewhat successful foreign policy campaign.

The WT and Freedom to choose Evil
by jst2laws inthe wt and freedom to choose evil
augustine taught that evil did not really exits, only love, and that evil is the lack of love.
but the wt society does not agree.

However anyone choosing Evil is destroyed (at least eventually). I would say that is not free-will, it's the most expensive-will we know - it costs your life!
Poignant!
That was one thought I could never reconcile as a dub. I chucked it up simply to things being the way they are. In order for things to work well, people have to do what is "right" no matter what the cost. It's all about working for the good of everyone involved, right? It may seem that way but there is something inherently 'evil' in placing the eternal life of someone you love on a faulty premise.

If You Could Have Had Bill Clinton As President For Another Term.....

Bush INHERITED Clinton's ignoring his duties.
Well maybe if the FBI spent a tad bit more time investigating Arabs who wanted to learn how to fly planes but not land them, (as opposed to who was sucking the President's dick) maybe Bush wouldn't have had anything to inherit.
Besides that Bill Clinton inherited a faltering economy, the aftereffects of the first gulf war and manged to handle both situations extremely well. Not to mention problems in the Balkans, that were effectively ignored by administrations even in Europe. Bill Clinton was a true statesman, Bush is figurehead who is led far more than he leads.

Predestination and Dubs
by Farkel indubs are one of a few unique religions that sprung up from the second adventist movement in the 1800's.
they are unique in that they believe in "greater fulfillments" of prophecies recorded in the bible.
they believe that bible characters and bible groups foreshadowed their equivalent "classes" of people in modern days.

Thanks for the reply Farkel.
The Bible is indeed very different when you look at exactly what's written without all the extra assumptions.

Barbour at least was smarter than Russell: he saw the "ransom" theory for the bullshit that it was and is.
Farkel,
How and why was the ransom doctrine bullshit. Inquiring minds wanna know.

Agony (of indecision)
by onacruse inonce in a while (sometimes in rapid succession), very insightful (or, shall we say: willing to share their hearts) people say something that just immediately cuts right to a totally exposed nerve...no thought needed, you just know right away that it has touched a tender spot in your soul, and you instinctively flinch.. without prior permission, but with editing, i'd like to share part of this personal message:if you can remember how you felt before you went to bethel...about a true brotherhood working together towards a common cause, where one is your leader and all you are brothers...it is a dream i cannot let go of.
another person was kind enough to describe it in the words of nathaniel hawthorne (of herman melville) - "he can neither believe nor be comfortable in his disbelief and is too honest not to try to do one or the other.".
this brought tears to my eyes...oh how true!

Sounds like he is, in a word...conflicted.
I used to feel like that until I was honest about why I felt that way. I'm not implying anything towards anyone in saying this, but I honestly had the hardest time facing the fact that I had been played for a fool. I opted out on a lot in my younger days using this religion as an excuse. Looking back I can honestly say that I saw a lot about the religion almost from the very start that proved them (myself included) to be hypocrites. I stuck with it because I didn't want all the ridicule and sacrifices I had made to be for nothing. It was a very selfish thing to do on my part. I could have done a lot more to help my family instead of being a recluse with my head in four color illustrated books wishing for a way out of my situation. Bottom line for me is I was afraid to take chances and the religion gave me all the excuses in the world not to.

I also think this issue is a silly one. Isn't the process of domesticating plants and animals for food basically the same thig as genetic modification?
