Will This REALLY Remove Foolishness?
by Englishman inwhen my parents entered the world of the witnesses, i was aged 8 years old.. dubbism did not sit easily on my young shoulders, and, try as he might, my dad struggled vainly to inculcate the new personality into his wayward, eldest son.
eventually, the strong diet of guilt and fear made inroads into my head, but, fortunately for me, it never reached my heart.
i was left with a personality that, instead of having absorbed the jw teachings had instead, become sort of striped.. the result was a boisterous child who liked nothing better to cheek those in authority.

As to your questions:
So, should parents be able to hit their kids if they want to?
I think they should. I don't think it should be left up to governments to determine how parents discipline their children. I think spanking should be used sparingly and with much discretion. I think coupled with other forms of discipline it can help ppl raise good children.
Is the state correct if it forbids this?
No it isn't. I say this because I believe too many parents are losing authority in their homes. Many children abuse being able to call the police on their parents. They also use laws like this as an excuse to run away. I'm not saying that abuse doesn't happen. But we can't be so naive to say that all spanking is abusive, just as we can't say that some spanking doesn't constitute abuse.
Is the Bible right when it commands fathers to use the rod on their children?
I would say yes. Although I feel I must say that I don't feel that the bible is being at all dogmatic about spanking. So I don't feel that I have to spank my kids or they won't come up right. I think in some situations spanking may be appropiate. Quite frankly it depends on the children and their personalities. The parent should know their children and figure out which kind of discipline is right for them as individuals.

Here's that quote from Dale Baker:
In the years preceding 1914, there was widespread fear of world war, which many felt was inevitable(4). Russell, however, did not expect war to break out in 1914. Note this comment made in a Watchtower article in 1893:
"A great storm is near at hand. Though one may not know exactly when it will break forth, it seems reasonable to suppose that it cannot be more than twelve or fourteen years yet future."
Twelve or fourteen years from 1893 would be 1905 or 1907 - not 1914. So actually Russell was preaching that if war did break out it would have to be some years prior to 1914, when he expected God's kingdom to be fully established over earth. In actuality, none of the events that Russell predicted to happen did. And the one thing he did not expect to happen did. Does that "prove" the correctness of his prediction?
This how the society "spins" the situation today, as explaned by Bro. Baker.
4. The Society tries to create the impression that World War I was an unexpected event, one which took the world by complete surprise, to support their contention that its origins were supernatural. For example, the 1/22/73 Awake quotes Joachim Remak: "Nowhere, even in the summer of 1914, was a calculated, advance decision made for global war." The 9/8/83 Awake quotes Henry Kissinger as saying that World War 1 "was a war no one wanted and a catastrophe that no one could have imagined." While such statements may reflect the personal opinions of the individuals quoted, yet historians give a completely different picture. For example, Barbara Tuchman, in The Guns of August, traces the historical origins of the war from the standpoint of the actions taken by the governments involved. It is clear that the Germans began working on the battle plans for a war against France shortly after the Franco-Prussian war. The French became aware of such plans in 1904 when an officer of the German General Staff defected and gave the battle plan to the French authorities.

http://planetwatchtower.com I think. I know it was a web page set up by the couples son. I tred to find it but couldn't. It contains this 110 pg open letter they wrote to their fam and close friends. Has a lot of good research and experiences. It was a real big help to me. I don't know if the link I provided works though. Well iguess I'm about to find out.ONE....

That's right Mulan. I remeber reading in Dale and Bette Baker's acount on James Caputo's website http://www.disfellowshipped.com how upoon investigating the society's literature of that time the Bakers found that the wts predicted the exact opposite of what actually occurred at that time. Along with what you mentioned, Russell when commenting on the arms race that was happening in Europe at the time, actually wrote that he felt that there would be no war Europe. He felt that by then God would already have begun to excercise judgement on the world with it being over by 1914.

for those not familar with this phenomenon, gleaning was when bethelites could basically bring their tupperware dishes down and store up on the leftover meals once the family was dismissed (usually by prayer, except for the bethel dinner).

What's up! I can't believe this! Man does stuff like that really go on at the center of worship of the only true god on earth? I can't believe ppl would resort to that sort of foolishness or that it was even allowed! I'm glad i didn't succumb to the influence to get me to go to Bethel back in the day.
