  What weird things have you read in the bible?

  the fact that nimrod's name means: "he stirred up the whole earth to rebel"

  and yet ezra's name means: "help"

  what caused nimord's mother to name him something that had such a negative meaning and yet he turned out to be just that?

  What about this one: The Bible is the Word of God, right? Its authors were inspired by God. Of course they knew this, that they were inspired by God, or how else could they write of things happening in heaven, thousands of years ago, decades old coversations verbatim, etc.

  Okay. Then explain this:

  1 Corinthians 7:10- "To the married people I give instructions, yet not I but the Lord, that a wife should not depart from her husband."

  1 Corinthians 7:12- "But to the others I say, yes, I not the Lord: If any brother has an unbelieveing wife, and yet she is agreeable to dwelling with him, let him not leave her."

  So, is 1 Corinthians the word of God, or not? 'Cause Paul kinda says he doesn't think it is, and he wrote the damn thing.

  Then there's the matter of appropriate language in the Bible.

  Galatians 5:12- "I wish the men who are trying to overturn you would even get themselves emascualted."

  Oh yeah, that's appropriate. Imagine an elder giving a talk said such a thing!

  Double life, anyone??

  how many of you lead double lives while growing up (especially those who grew up jw)?

  in the last few days, it seems that bothers me about my adolescence.

  i had to be one person for my mother, while still trying to be myself.

  Why didn't Jesus Outdo Greek Scientist?

  if i wanted to prove to a bunch of tribal ignoramuses that i'm the big boss i'd show them a few scientific tricks that would have dazzled them.

  like electricity, how the brain really works, higher mathematics, tell them how a star is formed since he created them, set up a fusion reactor for eternal energy source.

  he walked on water, see that might impress the odd shepherd or two back then but it leaves nothing for us to go on today as we can just reject it out of hand as a myth.

  The resurrection of Jesus or any of his followers would indeed prove his divinity if any of these people were alive today. But they're not. All that's left of these or any of the other miracles recorded in the bible is a neat story, and even some of the miracles are so hokey they're laughable. Anyone remember that guy who left a fleece on the ground overnight and the dew didn't stick to it? Didn't think so!

  Instead we have Jesus who claims the mustard seed is the smallest in the world. If you (co)created every species of plant, wouldn't you have instead said "The smallest seed you know of is the mustard seed, though there are many, many smaller," and then went on with your sermon? Or would you make a flase claim for dramatic effect? Isn't that lying?

  Sure. Only about 2% of people in the United States claim to be atheist. Do you think more than 2% of Americans steal?

  In fact, I think the idea of a god that forgives wrongdoing can actually encourage antisocial behavior. According to my atheistic beliefs, I am a supreme being in the universe, along with my fellow man. I'm a spiritual adult, responsible for myself and my behavior. If I had a God, a father who art in heaven, to fix all my transgressions, I could behave like a child, just as juveniles aren't legally accountable for their crimes

  Well, say someone tries to steal your car, but you have a concealed gun. You could let the man take your car after deciding an automobile isn't worth a human life. You could shoot the man before he hurts you or others. You could scare him off, where he might think twice before trying to rob someone else. You could perform a citizen's arrest and let the courts handle the situation.

  What are your options if you don't have the gun? You could call the police, but then they carry guns, so that's just passing the buck. Again, you could let him steal the car after deciding its not worth a human life, although the thief may decide otherwise and harm you anyway. You could try to flee, but he might catch you.

  Lastly, if the thief knows you have a gun, do you think he'd even attempt to rob you? Is he even still a thief?
