Countries like China were left out ostensibly because the JWs are under ban there. I've never questioned this before, but I don't recall stats from any banned country. Wouldn't keeping records seriously jeopardize their membership in those lands?

I'm embarrassed to be related to my brother.
by ColdRedRain inonly a few days ago, my girlfriend wanted to suspend our relationship.
naturally, i was hearbroken about it, because i loved that woman to the point where i dreamt about her every night.
so today, when i hear about my brother dumping his gf because according to him, she was too skinny to be his wife, it made me want to wait until he got home from florida and beat him up.

That's a shame about your girlfriend. Break-ups can be hard, but the sooner they come the better. If it was a doomed relationship (and I'm sure you didn't feel that it was), the sooner it ends the sooner you can move on. And you will.
As far as your brother, I don't think it's just men in the troof who are as shallow as a kiddie pool! Sure seems like the shallow ones get all the chicks, though, dammit.

Can someone explain to me the story of the tower of Babel?
by tippysock inin genisis 11:6 jehovah appears to be worried that mankind will be able to do anything they desire.
did jehovah scatter men and use different languages as a controlling measure to make us dependent on him?
what happened to freewill?

I guess you have a right to believe what you want, noko. The truth is I respect that. But I also believe that a person's beliefs should hold up under scrutiny and conform to logic.
How did the plans for Babel fall apart at the end? There are many "towers" all over Mesopotamia (ziggarauts). Now we have buildings many, many times taller. Why doesn't God try and stop us from building skyscrapers now?

Triple A, when you use Yeshua in its "common anglo form Jesus," you are in effect saying that it's okay to use an artificial anglicized translation of a prominent Biblical figure's name. You yourself allude to this.
However, JWs freely admit "Jehovah" is an artificial anglicized translation of the tetragrammaton, and never has the Watchtower Society taught that biblical figures pronounced the name of God as "Jehovah." And frankly, on this point alone, the NWT is a more honest translation of the OT than a Bible that replaces it with the terms "LORD" and "GOD." It's like replacing every occurance of "Jesus" with "the SON." While nobody is saying not use Jehovah, this webiste, and many Fundamentalists, say that it's incorrect, a logic they do not apply to the name "Jesus." Like the NWT translation of John 1:1, it appears to be doctrinally motivated.
Also, by your own logic, the NT authors did use "Jehovah" in their writings, every time they use the name "Jesus," which means "Jehovah is salvation."

But certainly the slave drivers had children, who are born unable to speak and obey a parent's commands. Just by listening to others speak children pick up language, and parents teach them there is a proper way to speak (grammar, pronounciation, etc.) At first, children do not obey parents, so they must learn discipline. And how do many parents communicate this? WHACK!
In short, being around people unable to speak and unwilling to obey was nothing new to the Babel-onians. Also, who decided which language group got to stay put in Babel?

I am so annoyed when anyone says anything negative about the nation of Israel or the religion of Judaism that their comment is twisted into having some racist anti-semitic connotation.
"The Bible is anti-semitic because it says Jesus was killed by the Jews."
IT SAYS JESUS WAS A JEW!!!
I don't accept the gospels as historical fact anymore, but when religiously uneducated men start preaching about God, the clergy doesn't take kindly to it and get the state to do some nasty things. I hate to say it, but look what happened to the GB during WWI. It makes perfect sense for the clergy of the first century, who happened to be Jewish, as was Jesus, to feel threatened by Jesus' teachings, and perfect sense for the same teachings to be viewed as seditious by the Romans. So I don't buy for a second that this was some sort of anti-semitic construct, although I do feel the details were greatly exagerrated and dramatized.

noko, when slaves were brought from Africa to America, none of them spoke English, and I suspect they had a few different languages themselves, so not all could speak to one another. But you know what? Their slave masters and overseers had whips, and the harsh crack of a whip on human flesh is a message understood by everyone. So Nimrod wouldn't feel obligated to release his slaves just because they suddenly spoke another language, would he? Language isn't an issue in slavery, it's power.

Have you ever seen a family member pretend to laugh as evolution is discussed on a nature program, or bitterly shout "READ THE BIBLE!" at the television set? I have.
The TRUTH is like a fresh wound for many Dubs. It cuts deep, and they hold it close to themselves so tightly it becomes and object of adoration in and of itself. After awhile it becomes numb, but when something disturbs it the pain is unbearable.
