...then you thought wrong.
richard wolf, an elder in the north salt lake congregation of the jehovah's witnesses, enjoys an occasional visit to the strip.. wolf joins other salt lake valley religious leaders in saying it's possible to stay true to one's principles in sin city ?
and be prepared to be vigilant.. "i think they need to protect their spiritual life," said the rev.

has anyone here ever gone to a witness school.
you know the school jw's set up to keep their kids separate from the world.
you would have the daily text every morning and of course a kingdom song had to be sung.. i'd love to hear your experiences.
there is one in Redwood City California. My brother went for a short time. He hated it and felt it was a waste of time. this was in the early 80's.

BLASPHEMOUS RUMOURS LYRICS - Depeche Mode |
EDIT / RATE / PRINT |
Girl of sixteen, whole life ahead of her Slashed her wrists, bored with life Didn?t succeed, thank the lord For small mercies Fighting back the tears, mother reads the note again Sixteen candles burn in her mind She takes the blame, it?s always the same She goes down on her knees and prays I don?t want to start any blasphemous rumours But I think that god?s got a sick sense of humor And when I die I expect to find him laughing Girl of eighteen, fell in love with everything Found new life in jesus christ Hit by a car, ended up On a life support machine Summer?s day, as she passed away Birds were singing in the summer sky Then came the rain, and once again A tear fell from her mother?s eye I don?t want to start any blasphemous rumours But I think that god?s got a sick sense of humor And when I die I expect to find him laughing |

Dear God - XTC
Dear God, hope you got the letter, and...
I pray you can make it better down here.
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
but all the people that you made in your image,
see them starving on their feet
'cause they don't get enough to eat from God,
I can't believe in you
Dear God, sorry to disturb you, but...
I feel that I should be heard loud and clear.
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
and all the people that you made in your image,
see them fighting in the street
'cause they can't make opinions meet about God,
I can't believe in you
Did you make disease, and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you? And the devil too!
Dear God, don't know if you noticed, but...
your name is on a lot of quotes in this book,
and us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look,
and all the people that you made in your image
still believing that junk is true.
Well I know it ain't, and so do you, dear God,
I can't believe in
I don't believe in
I won't believe in heaven and hell.
No saints, no sinners, no devil as well.
No pearly gates, no thorny crown.
You're always letting us humans down.
The wars you bring, the babes you drown.
Those lost at sea and never found,
and it's the same the whole world 'round.
The hurt I see helps to compound
that Father, Son and Holy Ghost
is just somebody's unholy hoax,
and if you're up there you'd perceive
that my heart's here upon my sleeve.
If there's one thing I don't believe in
it's you...
Dear God.
yesterday, while i was folding and getting ready my papers for my saturday paper route, i was in the jw chatroom on yahoo.
there were quite a few jws there (which has become an unsual thing - most diehard jw chatters have gone to paltalk where the control over a chatroom is more rigid) and i engaged a couple of these jws.
i asked my usual stumper "is there any historical proof for the year 607 b.c.e.?
Aw Rebel! Hey dont worry about it. I really didnt mind.
Josie
pope john paul ii's death?
if anyone has been to the meetings lately and if any of the brothers and sisters (ha!
) had any comments about it, please share them here.
yeah i was in a jw chatroom a couple of days ago and the jws were saying something similar to that. No respect for life or the the death of a fellow human being no matter what his title was. said some silly crap about the pope was going to be judged by jehovah the sock puppet god for not telling the real "truth".
Josie
when i was a kid my dad told me that when you said "amen" at the end of your prayer, that it meant "praise to jehovah".
i was listening to howard stern this morning and they were discussing the death of the pope, and they mentioned that his last word was "amen".
robin(the woman that does the news on the howard stern radio show) asked them what they thought that "amen" meant.
I believed Picard used to say "Make it so".
Wanting and believing that the meaning of "Amen" has anything to do with jehovah doesn't make it so.
Josie
any opinion on the philip's transalation??
i believe there was an article recently, in the dec 1, 2004 wt, about a jason beduhn who commented on the nwt in a very positive light.
anyone know what the other translations he examined??
this is what I found when I googled:
"The Watch Tower Society will want to selectively quote BeDuhn's book because he compliments portions of the New World Translation. On the other hand, considering what Truth in Translation also says about the New World Translation in areas of its weakness, the Watch Tower Society will need to proceed cautiously when quoting Truth in Translation. BeDuhn devoted an entire appendix (The Use of "Jehovah") to the 237 occurrences of "Jehovah" in the New World Translation Greek Scriptures (New Testament). In that appendix he essentially denies the most prominent feature of the New World Translation's Greek Scriptures when he disputes the appropriateness of using Jehovah in the New Testament."

i have heard many urban myths associated with the watchtower society and its hapless adherents.
i like the one where an "interested one" accepted the invitation to attend the memorial one year, and sat next to a "sister" who let the confused attendee use her bible to look up scriptures as they were presented.
afterword, the "sister" walked the man up to the circuit overseer, who had delivered the talk that year, and introduced the dupe-filled "study" to the co. the co complimented the man on his spiritual interest and asked what impelled him to come up and talk to him.
Someone needs to compile all of these jw fairytales into a book. That would be funny.

I didnt have my dictionary handy, but if you read closely I did have it right in the body of my post - so all is not lost. Oh and I did close by saying that I am not mental giant myself.
