Tattoo You?

don't take this as any kind of condemnation; it's just a question.

i'm curious about what the tattooed among us think.

why are you confident that you will be glad you have your tattoo ten or twenty years from now?

I have a "dot" tattoo on my chest. I had some form of radiation on that area when I was a kid and they left a permanent tattoo dot as a marker. That's all it is, a dot and for years I've wanted to turn it into something more, but haven't....as Ginny says, it seems "naughty", especially since it's on my sternum btwn my breasts. I'm not sure why I feel that way. A tattoo for medical reasons seems ok, but why not turn it into something prettier than a dot? I guess I don't want to one day be a 90 year old lady with a tattoo between my breasts

Incest - when did it become a bad thing??

in the beginning, if there were only two humans and they had kids, how did the kids have kids if not through incest?

my question is this.

when did that become unexceptable?

If you want the JW explanation for why these things were allowed and then disallowed, I believe it's in the book Truth That Leads to Eternal Life. I can't say that for certain, because I no longer have a copy. Anyhow, they say that when man was closer to his "perfect" state, he lived longer and his genetic make up was closer to perfection. According to what I read from the JWs, as time went on, it was necessary for J-god to prohibit sexual relationships between close family members in order to prevent transmission of diseases.

I am going from memory here, maybe someone with access to the CD-rom can give you a more accurate explanation.

i would like to know why you still beleive in god and what, based upon the bible, leads you to believe in god.. i likethe scripture that states the earth was a circle and hung upon nothing.

i also find that there is evidence the flood existed.

anybody know the stats of the "supposed" ark on mr. ararat?.

My reasons for believing are all based on personal experiences. I have no concrete compelling evidence to present that would convince anyone. We hear weird tales all of the time and I'm skeptical of most of it. I believe only because of what has happened to me.

that sick child molesting bastard is in jail now as we speak.. his sentencing is set for september 24th i think.. one down many more to go.. thanks to all who have supported this cause.. sheila

About the quote from "salon". I read the part about the paediatricians being driven out of town by confused locals, unsure of the term, and thought it was part of the farce by Morris.....did that really happen? It sounded like something out of a Monty Python script!

Did 60 Minutes do a show on Jehovahs' Witnesses?

i read a statement in the watchtower that 60 minutes did a report on jehovah's witnesses.

does anyone know about this?

I heard there was one on 5th Estate (Canadian 60 minutes) a guy I knew quit studying when he saw it and I was always curious to know what it was
about. Anyone know?

Jim, I saw the 5th Estate report on JWs in the spring of 1994. I'm not sure if that was a repeat or if that is when it was taped. During the show they interviewed various witnesses and ex-witnesses. I recall one young girl that spoke about her judicial committee and the probing, intimate questions the elders asked her (she had gone to them willingly to confess). Another woman's child was abducted by her JW husband and brought to another country. I don't know the details, but the child was only returned years later. They interviewed the girl about being taught that her mother was bad and that she would die at armageddon, etc. They followed some families out in service and interviewed them. They interviewed "apostates" as well.

I was also studying when that episode aired. My husband watched it with me and was absolutely disgusted with the witnesses. Up until that time, he had been fairly easy going about my involvement.

i am not anti -smacking by the way,(except at the kh) but it is always the very last resort.. latte

I've honestly never spanked my kids. They've just never done anything to warrant it! They're not perfect, but I can't think of one time where they've pushed me to the point where I've felt it was necessary. Actually, I did try a tap on my eldest daughter's hand a few times. One JW lady recommended I lovingly tap her hand and say "no" when she did something wrong. It just didn't feel right. My other children have never so much as been "tapped" on the hand. Other forms of discipline work just fine.

a couple originally approved by a council as adoptive parents have been refused permission by social workers to adopt a child, because they are jehovah's witnesses.

Nelly, that's odd. I was just thnking that the JWs over here have the guts to stand up for their religious policies. Not one of them ever once tried to tell me that shunning didn't exist or that it was because of something deeper.

They saw it clearly in the bible and they followed it. They tried to back it up with scriptures. Kenyata, on the other hand, seems to know that it is wrong and is therefore trying to say that it doesn't happen. I see kenyata as ashamed of his/her religion.

I'm just editing this to add, that I really haven't conversed with a JW regarding shunning in about 4 years and back then they proudly defended shunning. Kenyata's response is in keeping with the recent Wt org PR claim that JWs don't shun those that 'cease to be involved". The brainwashing is amazing.-- just 4 years ago it was defended, now it is denied. Is it group amnesia? It wouldn't be the first time.
