  God is not Great

  anybody seen this book,.

  i was at a friends tonite, and read a bit on jihadist cretins in saudi arabia, who have banned george orwells "animal farm" because the farm ends up run by pigs.. godly honest - hearted moslems are also seeking to ban piglet, and charlottes web from schools.. apparently the eyes of innocent moslem babies cannot be defiled by reading about unclean animaux taking over the world, but.

  they can go to market to shop with mommy and see starving thieves having their hand sawn off (but humanely given a novocaine shot in the arm so they can watch but not feel it).

  I've thumbed through the God Delusion book and have it on my list......my rather long list of books to get.....sounds like I'll add another to the list and........when I have time........sigh.

  However, the reason (some) religious people behave in such appalling ways is because they believe their god requires them to do so. They're not extremists, they're people who actually believe what they say they believe. If we are willing to validate anybody's belief in any deities without any evidence (and unwilling to question or disparage such belief), then it should not be surprising that some of those people will actually obey their gods. Fortunately, in the civilised world, most believers ignore their god or have deliberately sought out (or invented) more benign deities but in much of the world, religious people follow their gods' commandments - well, religiously.

  Eh......isn't God simply within and if we all wanted peace our God would be one of peace and the world would be a peaceful place. It's people doing bad in the name of their God. IMHO.

  What's your view of "The Secret"

  a neighbor told me about the book, "the secret".

  i read it and thoroughly enjoyed.

  it places emphasis on the "universe" but can be understood to be a supreme being (god).

  What do you do when you know you child is getting thier feelings hurt?

  we just recently moved and my oldest son (9) is adjusting well, so far.

  there are lots of kids on the street and they are always outside playing soccer and basketball.

  i've noticed that he is having trouble with a couple of the boys....they are all very close in age...9 10 and 11.

  So, 1 boy is nice to him but the other 2 pick on him. I'm trying to help build up his self esteem so that the other boys will not have a need to pick on him......( i think they feed off the fact that he does look very hurt when these thing are said). Has anyone been through this stuff.....help please with some suggestions.

  I would invite these three boys to your house for some kind of function, maybe your son could think of something here. Let them get to know the whole family and maybe they will be less likely to disc your son. Just get to know the boys and them get to know you. You might also watch them play and see how they all interact with each other.

  I know how a Mom's heart hurts when someone is picking on her kids! Hope it smooths over soon.

  How Did Being Referred To As A “Brother” Or “Sister” Make You Feel?

  True, the Bible uses the term brother, but did the Society
  use the term “brothers”and “sisters” to unite or further
  indoctrinate?

  I hated it especially in public places where other non JW's were listening. It always made me cringe that and all the JW speak, like "new order", "worldly", "truth" and all those dubizms.

  Looking back it was not only to indoctrinate us but to make us look unique as if we were part of some elitist society. I always felt we sounded stupid.

  Long Beach Convention weekend is over!

  i attended with her on friday morning.

  she attended alone during the afternoon as i had some clients to meet with for my business.

  Stop college or keep plugging on?...opinions please.

  here's my situation...i'm doing college online because i can't very well do college the traditional way with a 2 year old.

  anyway, my computer has been acting really funny and it's not reliable anymore.

  my ex worked on it for almost 4 hours and the darn thing still crashes saying my "virtual" memory is too low.

  Get a new computer they're really cheap and finish school. By the time you've finished your kiddo will be in school full time and you can get a decent job.

  my 45 year old son committed suicide in may, he was living in texas, i live in mississippi, he was raised here and had many family members and friends here so on june 4, i had his obituary run in our local paper...on june 6, i got a letter in the mail from a town 12 miles away, thinking it was from someone who knew him i opened it to find that it was from a jw who i do not know and it contained a typed note along with that damn when someone you love dies tract in it!

  i was furious at the person who sent it until i thought about how brainwashed they are and how important it is for them to get their time in even if it's done in such a disgusting manner as reading the obituaries and imposing their screwed up beliefs on people like myself who are in pain and grieving the loss of their first born son!

  i tore it to bits and put it in the trash where it belongs.

  When it became clear *note I had to be hit by a two by four* that an Elders wife could get away with adultry and ruin families in her wake over and over again without punishment......well except to continue to live with the Elder and stay in the B'org, I guess that is punishment enough, maybe?

  hi again, sorry i haven't been able to get to the computer for days now as i am so tired when i get home from the hospital.

  yesterday i was just so out of things i had to take a break mentally and emotionally.. it is terrible seeing marco everyday being sick and deteriating.

  on sunday after church i went to the hospital and just got there in time to speak to the cadiologist.
