The other need religion purports to satisfy is our need to know about the world in which we live. It tells us how the world came to be and why - but it doesn't give us the real answers, it gives us answers that were made up by people who knew a lot less about the universe than we do. That is why even most religious people have abandoned religion's explanations of how we got here.

are they encouraged to do so by the borg?
Awe sweetums don't let this sucky religion divide your family any worse than it obviously has after all it's their money and they are doing with it now what they want why not after they die?
I have a friend who always says how much he will inherit when his parents die as if that money will still be there regardless of the funds needing to be used for long-term health care of his elderly parents. It frustrates me because it's not his now and he shouldn't count on it ever being his, his parents worked hard for that money not him!
It's just money, here today gone tomorrow, and can be replaced by the living......I would rather celebrate the life behind the money which cannot be replaced, not the money, but thats just me.

I can only imagine the thinking behind this is that the JW's don't want any monies being used for anti-JW stuff at least that's all I can think of. Myself and my brother who are the only two non believers in our family were recently notified that we are not inheriting any funds from our Mother when she passes away and that the estate will be handled by our sibling who is an Elder and dispensed to the care of our other living sibling for health care concerns. I mostly saw this as a theocratic move on her part.
I understand the *coff, coff* logic behind her wishes and have no problem with it as it will all go to the care of my sibling not so much to the WTS, we aren't talking loads of money here......sigh.

the one where the delete key is tall, the home and end keys are moved next to each other and and the arrow keys are moved to the left under the shift key.. .
i recently bought the logitech 510 (the one shown on the bottom) and i absolutely hate it.. years ago i learned how to touch-type, which means i type without actually looking at the keyboard.
Interesting reading on the Dvorak keyboard and why it came into existence. Big drawback for me:
- Easy to Learn : The logical arrangement of the letters makes Dvorak easy to learn. It has been proven that the Dvorak keyboard is easier to learn than QWERTY, and so speed can be accumulated more easily. In one study, only 52 hours of Dvorak practice had brought a group of typists up to the speed to the speed it took them 3 years to accumulate on QWERTY!
No thanks, no way do I have that amount of time to spend learning something I hardly have a use for I'll stick to what I know QWERTY is fine for me and I would hate to think of all those years in school learning how to type were waisted! LOL In the business world I can clearly see an advantage. It would be good to see this keyboard system offered in public schools especially for those student who are moving on into a career where they absolutely use a keyboard daily.

i was at a friends tonite, and read a bit on jihadist cretins in saudi arabia, who have banned george orwells "animal farm" because the farm ends up run by pigs.. godly honest - hearted moslems are also seeking to ban piglet, and charlottes web from schools.. apparently the eyes of innocent moslem babies cannot be defiled by reading about unclean animaux taking over the world, but.
they can go to market to shop with mommy and see starving thieves having their hand sawn off (but humanely given a novocaine shot in the arm so they can watch but not feel it).
I've thumbed through the God Delusion book and have it on my list......my rather long list of books to get.....sounds like I'll add another to the list and........when I have time........sigh.
However, the reason (some) religious people behave in such appalling ways is because they believe their god requires them to do so. They're not extremists, they're people who actually believe what they say they believe. If we are willing to validate anybody's belief in any deities without any evidence (and unwilling to question or disparage such belief), then it should not be surprising that some of those people will actually obey their gods. Fortunately, in the civilised world, most believers ignore their god or have deliberately sought out (or invented) more benign deities but in much of the world, religious people follow their gods' commandments - well, religiously.
Eh......isn't God simply within and if we all wanted peace our God would be one of peace and the world would be a peaceful place. It's people doing bad in the name of their God. IMHO.

we just recently moved and my oldest son (9) is adjusting well, so far.
there are lots of kids on the street and they are always outside playing soccer and basketball.
i've noticed that he is having trouble with a couple of the boys....they are all very close in age...9 10 and 11.
So, 1 boy is nice to him but the other 2 pick on him. I'm trying to help build up his self esteem so that the other boys will not have a need to pick on him......( i think they feed off the fact that he does look very hurt when these thing are said). Has anyone been through this stuff.....help please with some suggestions.
I would invite these three boys to your house for some kind of function, maybe your son could think of something here. Let them get to know the whole family and maybe they will be less likely to disc your son. Just get to know the boys and them get to know you. You might also watch them play and see how they all interact with each other.
I know how a Mom's heart hurts when someone is picking on her kids! Hope it smooths over soon.
