Strange visit

after 4 years away from meetings and no contact with the cong i attended, yesterday i answered the door to find an elder at the door.

he was po in my cong but has been removed i had heard.

he said he was calling about the disaster fund and that the society wanted to update everyones details like phone numbers and contacts.

He said he was calling about the disaster fund and that the society wanted to update everyones details like phone numbers and contacts. He said everyone was being called on. I said I did not want to give my details which threw him a bit and he went on rabbiting about the state of the world and how tornados were getting nearer!!! He left when I again refused to give any details.

My son also heard this conversation and was as confused as me. What is the disaster fund? we thought a fund was to collect money but that wasn't mentioned. Anyone cast any light on this strange visit?

would you prefer them to ask what you would like or to surprise you, and if they did ask for ideas would you be offended?

the reason i ask is that my mother in law has just told my husband that we may as well go back to how we were when we were witnesses and stop buying them presents as we don't put any thought into it and ask them what they want.

he is really upset by this comment while i am just plain bloody angry!.

Complaint procedure question

it is almost four years since i attended my last meeting, and in that time have had no contact with people from the cong, other than brief meetings in supermarkets etc.

out of the blue last week i had a phone call from a sister in a neighbouring cong to tell me that she was writing an official complaint to bethel about an elder in the cong i attended.

it was about an incident that happened eight years ago when her daughter was in hospital, and that i was aware of.

It was about an incident that happened eight years ago when her daughter was in hospital, and that I was aware of. Sadly her daughter died and there are no witnesses to the incident,which I always saw as an elder being tactless and something best forgotton. How would a complaint like this be received after all this time and as no-one witnessed what happened is any action likely to be taken?

Jim Flemming. Was he a scottish guy with a limp? If he's the one I'm thinking of he was a really nice bloke.

Richard Cullen - wicked sense of humour! My kids looked forward to meetings when he was visiting ( about the only time they did!! )

Tony Taverner - did he leave circuit work because of kidney problems? I'm sure he settled down south and popped up to give talks now and again. Anyone know if he's still alive?

i spent time in a cong where the school overseer had a real thing for pronouncing words just like on the wt cds.

this meant that we were always been counselled for incorrect pronunciation, especially when it came to the word philistine.he insisted that the 'ine' at the end should be pronounced as 'een' and that the emphasis should be on the second syllable ' lis' .

i would cringe listening to students using the ' correct pronunciation' when privately they all thought it was wrong to have his view imposed on us.. what about you.

if you could sum up your time in the borg with just one word, what would it be and why?.

for me it would be guilt.

guilt about not doing enough ministry, not enough study,doing too much secular work, the list seems endless.on the odd occasions i felt i'd done quite well you can bet we'd have a talk saying more,more more!.
