I managed to find a scan of the page on the web. I have just tried to go back to the site and its no longer available. However i have the page saved in my favourites and if anyone can explain how to make it available i'll try my best, bearing in mind I,m not too good with computers so I'd need easy instructions!

Urgent scan request! Imperial Bible Dictionary!
by ithinkisee inmy wife was appalled by the misquote in the reasoning book under cross - where the society quotes the imperial bible dictionary.. more information regarding this misquote is located here:.
http://www.geocities.com/athens/parthenon/7831/cross.html.
she is not convinced though - because she does not have an actual scan of the actual page to look at.. (yes, i have already tried contacting the author of that website - to no avail.).

How would you answer?
by bagpuss ini have just started reading 'reasoning from the scriptures with jehovahs witnesses' by ron rhodes.. one of the suggested questions to ask a jw is,.
if jehovahs witnesses are the only true witnesses for god,and if the witnesses as an organization came into being late in the 19th century, does this mean that god was without a witness forover 18 centuries of church history?.
can anyone remember the 'official' line on this and if you had been asked this as a jw how would you have responded?

What have you gained?
by bagpuss inits two years since i last attended a meeting or thought of myself as a jw.
despite the prophesys of doom and gloom for those who leave the org i have gained lots and lost nothing.. i have much more time to spend with my husband which has led to our relationship improving fantastically.. i have a better relationship with my children who stopped going to meetings when they were teenagers.. i have become much closer to my family (i've just returned from yorkshire from my great nephews 1st birthday party.
my confidence has grown dramatically as i no longer view myself as worthless.. the guilt of not doing enough has gone.. i now have real friends.. the list goes on, but i really would like to hear what you've gained or hope to gain by leaving the borg.

Can anyone help?
by bagpuss inafter nearly 2 years away from meetings it seems that the local jws have decided that i need 'spiritual help' and my house has become a jw magnet, all offering to be the ones to give me that help.. while they left me alone i was happy to leave them to their beliefs, but now i feel its time to make my feelings known.. i thought i'd start with the un scandal, but as many here have found they will almost certainly use the library card excuse.
i remember being told from the platform that we should never become involved with a political org' even if it was just for non-political reasons eg using facilities, clubs and bars.. while i clearly remember hearing this it would be useful to have something in black and white to support it.

True,I don't have to justify myself, but I do feel just as strongly that I don't have to hide what I know. These people come to my door telling me they have the truth. Well I don't believe that and I want them to know why, and as for being shunned that wouldn't worry me at all. I'm in the lucky position of having no loved ones in the org, so nothing would change except the knocks at the door would stop!!!!
Maybe the easy way is to keep quiet but its getting harder to do and I don't think I want to keep quiet and be plesant anymore.
Sorry if I'm sounding a bit bolshy but this cat has decided that its time to bite back!!!!

What is their excuse?
by bagpuss ini've recently been looking at examples of how the wts misquote sources to support their theories, often omitting large portions of a quote.. one that made me angry was a quote in the reasoning book on page 89 under the subject of cross.
here is the quote, the omitted parts highlighted.. "the greek word for cross, stauros, properly signified a stake, an upright pole, or a piece of paling, on which anything might be hung, or which might be used in impaling (fencing in) a piece of ground.
but a modification was introduced as the dominion and usages of rome extended themselves through greek speaking countries.

I've recently been looking at examples of how the WTS misquote sources to support their theories, often omitting large portions of a quote.
One that made me angry was a quote in the reasoning book on page 89 under the subject of cross. Here is the quote, the omitted parts highlighted.
Even amongst the Romans, the crux (from which the word cross is derived) appears to have been originally an upright pole, and always remained the more prominent part. But from the time that it began to be used as an instrument of punishment, a traverse piece of wood was commonly added....about the period of the Gospel Age, crucifixion was usually accomplished by suspending the criminal on a cross piece of wood."
I think you will agree that the full quote supports the cross and NOT the stake.
Have any of you shown quotes like this to JWs and if so what was their response?
For any active JWs reading this, does it not make you doubt other quotes used by the WTS, especially when you see ............in the middle of a sentence?
