Why is it that the JWs "help" stops at the brothers and sisters? Why don't they help the thousands of others? Doesn't anyone remember the parable of the Good Samaritan?

What is WRONG with people? (Looters, shooters, et al)
by AlmostAtheist ini'm sitting here in awe, just having read that evacuation helicopters are reporting being shot at in louisiana.
shot at.. looters are seeing an opportunity to take goods that will probably be destroyed or paid for by insurance anyway.
it's dirty and nasty and wrong, but i can live with it.

It just makes me realize how differently people react when thrown into "survival mode." We see it in Hollywood movies (people trapped in a sinking ship, stranded on an island, etc.) but you don't think "the crazy" character is really real.

Babies Airlifted From New Orleans Hospital To Dallas
2,500 Patients To Be Airlifted To North Texas
POSTED: 11:34 pm CDT August 31, 2005 UPDATED: 11:52 pm CDT August 31, 2005
DALLAS -- The national disaster medical system has been activated for the first time, causing hospitals in Hurricane Katrina's strike zone to be evacuated.
On Wednesday evening, the process of airlifting 2,500 patients to the Dallas area began. Some of the first to arrive in Texas were the tiniest.
Six babies rescued from a flooded hospital in New Orleans were airlifted to Medical City Dallas.
"The hospital had no lighting at all, no running water," flight nurse Tim Beasley said.
Beasley said the hospital was cut off by floodwaters and the situation had become dire.
"The whole bottom floor of the hospital was flooded. When we arrived, there was a team of nurses, about 10 nurses standing on the top of the building, waiting for us to land and they were just holding the babies," Beasley said. "They were getting the babies out first. I hope they got the other patients out of there."
Beasley's partner, flight nurse David Campbell, said the conditions inside the hospital were hot and dark.
"You couldn't see a thing. I mean, you had to carry around flashlights. It smelled like wet dog," Campbell said.
Members of the Dallas flight crew, pleased they were able to rescue the hurricane's youngest victims, were still struck by what they saw.
"You could see all across the city, and it's a swamp," Campbell said.
The hospital staffers said they are having a difficult time reaching the babies' parents, who have no idea they are in Dallas.

Anyone been baptised in another religon since leaving the dubs?
by misspeaches ini was just wondering if any of you have been baptised into another religon since leaving the jw's.. if you don't mind sharing i would love to know if it was a monumental decision for you to make?.
what was your status when you did it?
disphellowshipped?

misspeaches,
Personally, I did decide to get baptized again because the only reason I got baptized the first time was to make mom and dad happy. The church I attended at that time said it wasn't necessary, but if I wanted to, they understood. So I got dunked.
Funny thing, you know how everyone is supposed to remember their baptism date? I cannot for the life of me, remember my JW baptism date. But I remember my second (real) baptism date. LOL Go figure.
Since then I've been to a wide variety of denominations, and I've never been asked about it. It's really pretty much a non-issue to most people. The emphasis is more on a relationship with Christ, rather than when you did this that or the other.
My experience has been similar to LTs.

they called me to identify the body
by kittyeatzjdubs inthat's what a friend of mine here at work told me last week....this is very fishy sounding to me.... i found the obituary of the victim in the paper.
it appears he had family and was living with them.
why the heck would the morgue call her on her cell phone at 6 in the morning to come identify the body?

kittyeatz,
so how do u tell a lifelong friend (or what u thought was a friend) that it has become very clear that they're full of $hit?
I'm struggling with the same issue with a friend of mine. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/9/97490/1.ashx
Her constant stories and behavior are really starting to bother me. Right now, I nod politely and listen, but the whole time I'm thinking, "Are you joking? Do you think anyone REALLY believes this crap? We're not idiots." When the story gets changed from day to day or she can't remember details of a story from a week ago, it really makes me realize I'm not crazy. I'm trying to focus on her good qualities, but the bad stuff is something I have to deal with everytime I see her. It truly is exhausting. I'm afraid she is the type of person when someone brings something negative to her attention, that she fights like a cornered tasmanian devil. (It becomes an illogical argument, becomes personal, and it's terribly ugly.)
Pathological liars and addicts have a tendency to do that when cornered. I'd tread carefully if I were you. Whatever you do, don't bring up this personal stuff at work. It will definitely lead to a hostile working environment. I might just pull back on the friendship a bit. Healthy friends don't lie like this and have a way of trapping themselves so badly they expose themselves to everyone. Eventually, she'll find someone else to listen to her lies and you hopefully you don't have to deal with her much.
The lesson I've learned: My perspective of the relationship was "friends", but it's had to change. Friends are always honest. If that's okay with her to live in a life of dishonesty...fine. That's just not what I want in a friend. I'm having a hard time because a few days ago I felt it my obligation to share with her my opinion about her behavior...because she was my friend. But since she doesn't seem to look at the relationship the same way, then I can't cross that line. It's not my responsibilty and my desire to tell her off would only make things worse. So I'm pulling away. (Not answering phone calls, not visiting, hopefully over time it'll be a nice little fade.)
Best of luck!

Else,
This is a pretty cool idea, although the project grade doesn't seem that swift. The kid utilizes energy that is otherwise wasted and all he gets is a lousy C? I'd be so disappointed!

My Dad Isn't There Anymore
by BrendaCloutier init really struck me last night that my dad is pretty much gone.
he has advanced alzheimers, and is slowly dying of kidney failure from 40 years of diabetes.
the family stepped in and said no to dialysis, because it would be 5 hours per day 3 days per week - minimum, for limited return on quality of life.

((((((((Brenda)))))))))
My MIL volunteers at the local Alzheimer's nursing home with her therapy dogs. She always has the neatest (and sometimes sad) stories of the characters that live in that facility. One sweet lady, that reminds her of the granny in Wedding Singer, always asks, "What kind of dog is that?" My MIL patiently answers every week, "It's a Newfoundland." And the lady always smiles real big and says, "There was a lady here just last week with a dog like that." My sweet MIL sits and talks with her Alzheimer friends every Saturday morning. Sometimes they remember her, sometimes they don't. She has the patience of a saint as she has the same conversations with some of them week after week. It does her soul good to do it as many of these patients do not have family check in on them as they get advanced in their illness. It's one of the reasons why I adore my MIL. She's such an amazing woman.
I'm so glad you made your peace with your dad while he was well. I'm sure it's a good feeling.
