since i stopped going to meetings about six months ago i have been getting happier and happier and don't know why.

we gave up on our internet connection yesterday evening, because we had so many power fluctuations that we were rebooting the router every minute or so.
we've heard an occasional explosion from transformers locally going out, but so far, we've still got power.
we're fine, no real loss of power more than a few minutes, though we're still getting gusts and scattered rain.

my doctors surgery has a jw on the reception and i dont want her to have access to my notes in am going to ask the doctor to make sure she is denied access is this being spiteful?
she would not talk to me otherwise so why should she have acesses to my most personal information.
I don't know all the details of your experience with this "sister", but I would personally find a different doctor. My only experience with a JW in the medical community was one where she broke the confidentiality code and told my parents I was at the hospital. I was furious! I don't put it past ANY JW to squeal to the elders about "gossip" they received at work by medical records. Yes, they are capable of being professional. But I have to say that most would choose the WTS over that confidentiality promise.

Why 100 miles away?
Any distaster planning guideline will tell you to have out of town locations set up for evacuations such as a storm, etc. That way you know it's a safe place you can go to for safety, but not too far from home. I have a SIL that lives in Hico, so that's our "local" (100 mile) evacuation site. But we also have an "out-of-state" evacuation site with my grandparents in Missouri. Safe to have a place lined up in case you need it, like New Orleans or Houston residents need right now.

My aunt down in Houston will probably be leaving tomorrow or Friday morning to come stay with us. It's been a good 10 or 13 years since I've seen her. It'll be nice to catch up. But I just hope she has a place to go home to, too.

We need one too since we live in tornado alley.
Mozz and I were thinking yesterday about what would hit our area. Being in Dallas, takes us out of the Hurricane zone, but tornados could be an issue here in the flat plains of North Texas. Minor flooding is an issue as well, but more apt to see tornadoes.
I think what's scared me the most through all of the media coverage is how MANY people were unprepared. It blew me away. But then I thought...how prepared am I? I wasn't. We're still not, but at least we're better off today that earlier this week. Another thing that scares me is that with our country so completely focused on Mother Nature's disasters, how many of our nation's enemies are looking at this at this moment in time as an Achilles heel? I want to be prepared for Mother Nature, but I also want to be prepared for any type of terrorist attack or bio-terrorism disaster as well.
I realize this may sound a little over the top, but how many people in New Orleans thought it would get as bad as it did? Very few, or there wouldn't be so many down and out evacuees. I don't want to underestimate ANY disaster!
