Can someone help with Assembly locations in Norco and Los Angeles?
by hlaim ini'm a former witness (attended when i was young but never baptized).
the assembly halls that i attended (besides dodger stadium) were one in norco and what had to be a historic "play house/theatre" in a bad area of la.
what i remember.... norco: facing the stage, i remember murals on the right upper wall.

HLAIM
I described as small because compared to Dodger Stadium and The Fabulus Forum (went to the Lakers locker room) it was small I was a kid and early teenager when I attended.
I used to serve the icescream and also help serving and preping food at the cafeteria maybe I even served U, went there in the late 70's to mid 80's
I don't recall the address but if you went west on the Santa Monica FWY 10 and exist Crenshaw going south it was past the old May Co shopping strip, by the way I think it got sold to a gospel church.
If I remember anything else I'll post it

In LA we used the Woodland Hills hall which was sold in 2004 for 20 milion plus..
We also attended a small old theater in Crenshaw which had a cafeteria and KH in the back and a small park like island in the front, as a kid we used to go to the Thrifty store, which was on one of the sides of the hall, to buy all kinds of candy and gum, the assembly commity always discouraged this but no one ever listened. This thearter got sold 10+ years ago.
Many in the LA area now go to Mira Loma (btw 60 HWY & 15 INST) (beautiful hall) for the circuit assemblies which is relatively close to the Norco hall and therefore also smells like cows.
District assemblies are held at the Long Beach Convention Center.

Food at the proper time indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just back from the doctors and he told me that the intense pain on my big toe was probably due to GOUT.
He asked if I had recently binged drink and being that is one of the mechanism I use to remain a witness I said yes.
So now I'll have to drink in moderation, not be a witness, or not drink beer. That moderation stuff sounds pretty good.
Doc also said to cut down on red meats like others already have suggested.
Good luck with your gout, my brother/sister in the gout.

they dont know that im currently struggling with doubts about the organization and they think that im the same old zealous brother.
i couldnt help but feel a sence of guilt visiting with them about our current number of publishers and how many we had pioneering ect.

Thanks Blondie for the WT quote.
PCat, after reflecting on the assembly they did mention the AIDS story here aswell, I remember the shock expressed by the audience.
PCat, I read your first post and I have a few friends (MS, they read the board) who are in your predicament I am in a similar position but I left once and I have no problems with doing it again if I must.

Here in Southern Califonia we had our circuit assembly three weeks ago and from reading your post one of the items you listed was the exact same that the circuit overseer talked about. He added that she now understands how busy the brothers are with work, family and meetings.
(They warned against being to critical of our congregation. Used an example of one circuit overseers wife who was always critical of everyone and there excuses for low hours ect. but that now that shes older and has problems shes understanding and compassionate.)
Locally we were told we must be obident in the small things like not talking to disfellowshipped ones I guess that is a problem and something else that caught my attention was that attending of meetings it is non-negotiable. The CO read from a 1965 WT that stated that if stop going to meetings we are basically DF ourselves from the Cong and that if Armegeddon comes we will die>>>
I have never heard this so I guess meeting attendance is really LOW overall in our circuit.

UPDATE: telling my parents I dont believe in God
by filip inmy parents have noticed my negative and sad attidude lately, whenever were going to the meetings or studying and so on.
but they just think that i am negative and sad in general.
i dont think they think that its spesifically because im being dragged to the meetings.. so lately we have had a lot of "serious" talks, because theyre worried for me.

From experience be collective and be soft in how you inform your parents don't do it like I did. When I was around 15 years old I told my dad I wasn't going to go to meetings anymore, I didn't believe in the JW religion and for that part most of the Bible, we shouted at each other, I said many cruel and negative things that really were not necessary and I only said because I was pissed off. Any how both parents were very hurt and initially my dad got negatively affected at the cong by stepping down as a servant, what is amazing is that I was oblivious to this at that time and it is until recently that I realized that this occurred. Also if you have any younger siblings, be aware that this might affect them as my younger brother stopped going as well.
Unlike you I would have kept going to the meetings since some of the kids there were nice but like many of the JW kids that go to Spanish congregations in So Cal said and still say (In comparison to the liberal English congregations) going to the meetings was like being at a strict Catholic school, No fun.

The Secret Fault I Tolerated About Blood
by Swan inyes, i tolerated a secret fault concerning blood.
i have never told anyone about it until this day.
now i am telling you.. as i recall, sometime in the 80's (or maybe late 70's) we were told to check our pet's food for animal by-products.

The secret fault many of my JW friends tolerate about blood is the eating of raw cooked steaks, my mother in law does it all the time when we go out and when her steak is served you can see the diluted liquefied blood squish out as she cuts her steak. YUM.
Many years ago when I researched the bleeding practices done at slaughter houses I was amazed to find out that about only 50% of the blood inside an animal is removed through the bleeding process and the remainder stays in the organs, vascular system and tissue, so an essence when one eats a steak that might even be very well cooked you'll eat blood not in the liquid form but as a solid.
Something to chew on.

Here in So Cal if you are not in the Spanish hall things are pretty bleek, with sisters in some halls handling the mag and book counters because there are no males that want to do them or are qualified
They also conduct service meeting during the week
One older elder pleaded to the children in one KH to do as much as possible because if the system continues they would be the future elder and MS but he stated from the platform that he wouldn't uderstand why the system would continue, what a Dilemma

illustrations that where false
by Grouper inhello everyone i am a new poster but have been lurking for quite some time, i wanted to know if any of you ever heard the following illustrations at meetings.
1) when i was a kid going to spanish meetings here in so cal i often heard speakers talk about satan being like a roaring lion ready to devour all humanity, then i would here the illustration of how lions hunt by roaring towards the ground this way the roar went everywhere and the prey would be easy pickings.
problem with this is once i studied in the fourth grade how lions hunt, found out lionesses are the ones that hunt and rely solely on stealth, ambush, the element of surprise to bring down their prey.

I still haven't found any info to support the various speakers? account.
2) In my late teenage years when I came back and started attending English meetings I heard another illustration I had often heard even in Spanish meetings, that was that we only use 10% of our brains and we should imagine the possibilities when we will eventually use all of it. Recently a protégé CO mentioned at the dinner table that in the MS school they were told it is only 10% of 1%. A simple research would show this to be an urban legend.
Anyone out ever hear these examples and to be fair do any of you have info to affirm the speaker?s accretions.
