I could have missed something here, so please be patient with me, but I thought there now was a surgical procedure to help us integrate our masculine with our feminine sides. Whatever it is, it sounds painful, so I'd have to really think through the implications. As an ex-JW I may still have reservations about whether I'd have blood on standby just in case the procedure was more difficult than expected. Anyone else heard of this procedure?

Special announcment 20 march fore JW ?
by happy man insomeone informed me today that in two months time there will be a "special announcement" to all congregations.
everyone must be present at the kingdom hall for it.
my elders already know what it is, but won't tell me.

The announcement may be along the lines of the following: The light has now got so bright that it's just too blind-inducing for mere mortals (i.e., non-governing body members) to actually see anymore. But, this sounds awfully like more of the same. Like a special meeting that we all had to go to in 1977: How excited we all were. I think it had to do with the "new light" on 1975. An elder I really looked up to spent the whole special meeting talking outside the hall to another elder. I remember how disturbed I felt that, at this momentous time, two shining lights in the district should take it all so lightly.

This is so earth-shakingly important and means one thing for absolutely certain:
That the world has at the very least just over two months to go before the Great Tribulation strikes.
Jehovah God would never upset the Governing Body by bringing this present system to an end before an important announcement has been made at the Kingdom Halls. So, everyone, let's celebrate: We've still got at least two months before the end which is sooooooo very, very near....

Reinstatement procedure
by Pebbles RC indoes anyone out there know the procedure to being reinstated?
i have been df'd for almost 5 years now and i'm considering... possibly getting reinstated.
however, i have been to a few meetings in the last few weeks and i am constantly ignored (i thought the elders were allowed to talk to me... there are at least 10 elders) also, i enquired about getting a bible study and was told that i could not have a bible study because df'd people do not get studied with.

Returning to a high control system like the Witnesses is like returrning to an abusive mate.
Peacefulpete has said it so well. Even people who have been in realtionships with others who have physically abused them or worse, and who manage to get away from the abusers, may still feel the need to return - especially if they think there is no where else to go.

Let's get this straight, Pebbles R C: You're asking us disfellowshipped ex-JWs how to get back into the organization???
If you're really not kidding us, all I can say is, would you ask Jesus how to go back to Judaism? Or Luther, how to return to Catholicism? Or Joseph Smith, how to go back to monogamy? Or Charles Russell, how to go back to accurate prophecies (er, sorry about this last example; I don't think he ever knew what accurate prophecies were in the first place). How could you trust their answers; how can you trust mine? Anyway, here is my answer: Go back to your kingdom hall and tell the elders that you're so desperate to return that you've been forced to contact disfellowshipped witnesses to find out how to go about getting reinstated. That may be all you have to do to fully weigh up what sort of reception awaits you when you return to the kingdom hall. I just hope you're not too sensitive to condemnatory social cues.

I cannot make up my mind about PRESSINGFORWARD'S post: If it's genuine, it's so over the top and irrationally hot-headed as to be like a caricature of the JWs. A good Jehovah's witness like you should not be trolling through this website! Threats about Satan, indeed. Go back to your Watchtower and leave things in Jehovah's hands, ye of little compassion or faith.
On the other hand, if it's a fake response, well done. It certainly captured a certain familiar organizational arrogance!

Who here went to Pioneer School?
by LDH in.
and most importantly, as we all know that this education in the life saving work is second to none, have you placed this grand accomplishment on your resume?

Such interesting stories about pioneer school. Back in my pioneering days - early to mid 1970s - I don't think there was such a school--- certainly not in New Zealand. Anyway, I feel envious that I missed out.
What comes through the various stories is the shared excitement (at the time) and the sense of companionship. It reminds me that, among my friends in the local congregation, there were a few who were salt-of-the-earth types, wonderfully warm and compassionate people. I love(d) them so much, but, sadly, they were rarities, compared to those who were real "organization" types. Keep the stories coming...I'm enjoying this!

Argument from an elder on why to not leave the JWs...
by undercover ini got an interesting reply from an elder friend when i admitted that i had issues with the wts.
i had listed the failed predictions, the changing doctrines and the mistakes made by the wts.. he came back with the examples of the israelites in the wilderness and under the various kings.
the nation of israel was still god's people despite their hardheadedness and sins.

There have been some really powerful and thoughtful responses in this thread. I especially agree with BluesBrother. It's the Watchtower's smug "let's-criticise-everyone-else but make-excuses-for-ourselves" mentality that first evoked the sense in me that the WTS was nothing but a self-appointed prophet who mistook loudness and brashness for truth and acountability.

Questions No JW has answered
by 144001 inmany times i have asked my jw relatives questions that they've been unable to answer with anything other than, "good question, i'll get back to you on that.
" for some reason, they never actually do get back to me on them.
so, now here's the opportunity for the jehovah's witnesses and their supporters on this forum to either answer some of these questions or concede that they have no answer.

Since most of you are non-smokers, did you ever smoke and were you able to quit as mentioned with no problem. I have always wanted to know. I would appreciate your input.
Hey there Khazar. Welsome to this interesting thread. One "virtue" I have had all of my life to date is absence of any substance abuse of the alcohol and drug kinds. It is enough to make me feel almost perfect. However, in practically everything else my track record is spectacularly uneven. Thank goodness, I have decided that this is not the forum for me to make specific confessions!
I must admit that when I see people smoking in public and blowing their exhaled smoke in my direction, I feel a huge wave of righteous indignation wash over me. Yet, when I think of the struggles I have had - and in some cases, continue to have - in numerous areas of my life, I reign in my self-righteousness. I empathise with you. It does seem that smokers are the modern-day pariahs in western societies!

it's useless, in my view, tyring to argue with any jw's about anything...
Then please don't argue ...present your view as something you're puzzled about and want to receive a good theocratic answer to. Tell the JW that you have confidence in their ability to give the matter thoughtful consideration. Tell them you're sure the argument you're presenting is flawed and want help in identifying the flaw more clearly. You value their input, etc etc. Remember that scripture we loved to use as we tried our clever witnessing techniques on householders: 'Innocent as doves, crafty as serpents' -or something like that.
There is nothing quite so potent and disturbing as the softly softly approach. The aim is not to overwhlem or to corner, but raise a question that lingers. Whether anything positive results is neither here nor there. And it's a good idea not to press the issue.
